Congrats on Sherlock! Raptors in general are a great responsibility, but they provide great rewards. I'm a falconer here in the US and I love the challenge, interactions, and rewards that I get from my birds every day! Oh this is so exciting. I can hardly wait to see the Muse going up. I wonder what the doggies will think of their new feathered bother. I was thinking that when Sherlock is installed and happy in his new surroundings I am sure he will molt sometimes and I for one would love to buy one of his cast off feathers and if others would buy feathers it would help offset his keep. Another idea would be to put a feather in with the annual calendar you put out. Take care guys and have a lovely summer building your Train Barn and Muse.

Way to go guys! I was a licensed falconer for many years when I was younger. Birds of prey are spectacular creatures. The only reason I haven’t continued with falconry is the tremendous time commitment.

This is amazing, guys! I've just started a mentorship with a local falconer who has a Eurasian eagle owl called Mumbles. They're amazing, beautiful birds. What a fabulous idea Colin & Shaun - well done guys. 👍 Some years ago, my wife & I spent a w/end in Stratford on Avon. Whilst there, we saw a falconry display at Shakespeare's mother's house. We happened to be sitting at either end of a bench when one of the handlers released an eagle owl from behind us (we hadn't seen her standing there !) and the owl flew between us across to the other handler. It made absolutely no noise at all - we just felt the air moving as it flew past. A truly awesome experience ! 😎

My wife and I visited Scotland from Alaska five years ago, and I got to meet an Eagle Owl and let him perch on my arm. It was something I'll never forget. Good job Colin taking on such an amazing role.

😮😮 Absolutely a surprise!!! An Eagle Owl 🦉 He's so beautiful, with his gorgeous pumpkin eyes! What a commitment for you two, I know he will have the Best Life you can give Sherlock. ❤ Here in Idaho We have the Birds of Prey World Center. I often visit esp when they bring out the ones that sit on the handlers arms. They repopulated the California Condors and returned them to the wild there. Good work!

We had a wild great Grey owl in our back wooded garden. It had a 5 ft wingspan, and ate our chickens by spooking them into a corner then dragging one thru the chicken wire of a night.

We had a Great Horned Owl for about 6 months when I was a kid, my brother worked at a raptor rescue. The owl would run and chase our dogs around the yard. He was never able to be released because it was afraid of live food. Spook lived many years (between 35 and 40) and traveled to all kinds of schools. I will say they do make a big mess but the owl pellets were interesting.

The countryside does look gorgeous where you live, now that spring has arrived. About owls, I was taking a walk one time and it seemed strangely as if the general background noise had stopped coming from one direction. When I looked it was an owl flying towards me, completely silent and almost as if it was absorbing the sound around it.

Excellent news guys. Sherlock is amazing, especially his eyes. When I was on holiday in Mallorca a few years ago, I had an opportunity to have one of these owls on my arm. It was an awesome experience and still have the photo. Those eyes just get you.... I am really envious of you both, especially Colin, as you will be handling him. you lucky fellas, my husband and I, many years ago had a friend who had a Harris hawk, this led onto us getting involved with a rescue that housed owls and hawk, and other creatures, it was amazing to learn all there was to know about the birds, I brought lots of books and learnt so much, but also that we didn't, at that time ,have a lifestyle that would enable us to offer the best care and flying time to an owl or bird of prey. also our chickens would have a melt down as our garden, its big, but not like your plot of paradise. its going to be amazing to watch. wow just wow, come on then Colin lots to do lol x
