For information: Actually, there is a data protection law in the United Kingdom SIMPLY BECAUSE the UK, as a member of the European Union, had to transpose the European Union legislation. Great job, European Union!!!

In Europe, an individual's personally identifiable information (PII) is inseparable from that person. Digital privacy is a right. According to the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) there, an individual has the right to know what PII is captured, how it is used, by whom, to deny access at any time, be forgotten, and cannot be denied services based on PII restrictions. In other words, you cannot be coerced to sign away your rights to privacy in order to get service. What a fantastic approach! In my opinion, the US needs its own GDPR.

It's hilarious that social network insists on people using their real name to avoid... abuse? Frankly it's disgusting. Social media needs to be socialized. These are things we need to become a more enlightened society so the people managing and developing these tools need to be independent from the profit motive of collecting data.

I think the point everyone is possibly missing is that Facebook should not be forever free. To me, online forums are either a give and take ... meaning you give out what you take in ... OR ... they are a commodity like a newspapers or magazines where you pay for the valuable and entertaining content that you are receiving. That, I will happily tell everyone, is how I have long perceived and approached these ever since when I joined and participated in Composers' Forum. I am quite happy to pay for a commodity that brings me excellent, interactive value. HOWEVER, this is predicated upon TRUST, meaning that personal information is never divulged to the wrong people, third-party companies and government institutions, etc.!!

Once just one single AI gets access to just one of these huge data bases in this world, (and not just NSA's), no human will be safe, not even those who built and set up the AI's and data bases. And we did it to ourselves.

I'd join the suit except Facebook's privacy policy isn't worth the virtual page on which it's written on so I don't subscribe. It's not your profile on Facebook, it's Facebook's profile on you. Time to ditch so called social media, grow up, and get our own websites at our own domains.

The Post Office here in the USA is taking pictures of EVERYBODY'S letter sized mail pieces, per the Post Office. WHY? When taking pictures of people's mail is not necessary for the processing and delivering of the US mail and cost real money to do. And what else is occurring with those pictures, and WHY????????

Lechiffresix six a. This past winter I receive in the US Mail a brochure from the Post Office as a holiday guide. KUDOS to the Post Office for doing so. BUT, on the next to last page of the brochure there is a page titled "See What's Coming in the Mail, from Your Email." Apparently a person could go to their 'usps.com/guide' web page and freely sign up for this service. The person would get daily email notification with images of their actual letter sized mail pieces. b. In addition, this past month as I was in the local Post Office they had signs behind the counter concerning the signing up for this 'service' as well as brochures in the customer area that was titled "If it's in the mail, it's in your email". A person could go to 'usps.com/getinformed' to learn more and sign up for 'free'. This brochure says you can preview mail and manage packages scheduled to arrive soon. This brochure even says that any device could be utilized and one could download the free mobile app for various smartphones and tablets listed in the brochure. c. In a conversation with another individual this past month here on KZbin, he mentioned that he utilizes this service. So, 3 different sources that says it's for real. Now normally, this would not be a problem and on the surface sounds like a nice service, and it's free too. That's what businesses do to suck people in. In this case though, in the larger context of what the NSA is doing to it's own fellow citizens in violation of their constitutional rights, it just adds to more data points that the NSA is utilizing to build profiles of all the people in this world that they can. Cambridge Analytica supposedly had 4000 - 5000 data points to do their thing. NSA would also have facial and voice recognition, DNA, fingerprints, etc, and now actual pictures of people's mail too, even if it's mail entirely sent and received within the USA of legally abiding fellow American citizens. For a lawyer or doctor, their client privileges might even be getting violated because now the Post Office would have photographic records of their patients/clients, how often they write back and forth, from where and to, size of letters/packages, etc. A lot can be told from meta data alone, that's why the government and businesses utilize it. And most of us know, the NSA is not just collecting meta data alone. In addition to violation of American citizen's constitutional rights and possibly doctor/lawyer client violations, what is going to happen when just 1 single AI gets access to the NSA's or other nation's or organization's huge data base? No human is going to be safe, not even those who built and set up the AI's and data bases. Can anybody say, "Dumb asses we all are?" So, you are right to be scared. BUT, what are we all going to do about it???

I do not think much of that professor who still uses Facebook. There is no reason on Earth for anyone to be using Facebook. PLUS: Your shadow profile is what you give Facebook, so everyone already knows their profile and should not be surprised that Facebook keeps it on database. How dopey to think otherwise. I warn all my students that what they do online is essentially (or potentially) open to the public, because Internet security simply sucks. What is missing with online social media platforms is a feedback loop that allows users to regulate their service provider. We do not need government regulation, we just need to better empower communities of users to bring down Facebook if they feel they are being mistreated. So yeah... #DeleteFacebook think about it... do you really need Facebook in your life? ("Need" not "want" or "desire".)
