A friend once said: those 5 last kgs everyone's always trying to lose are "happy kilo's". They're the piece of cake you have celebrating a birthday, they're the extra drink you have going out with friends, they're the meal your mom prepares when the family unites again. If you spend all your time stressing over that unattainable weight, you forget to enjoy life.

@@howardlam6181 You don't understand what a beauty contest is, isn't it?? Beauty contest judgments include only 30% of contestants superficial beauty while the rest 70 % is about their cognitive thinking,mental abilities,real life problem solving,smart, empathetic,MOST IMPORTANT IS THEIR CONFIDENCE and how they deal with situations.These are the traits which have the most weightage for a national or international level of beauty contest.Same goes for the selection of Miss Universe,Miss World,etc That's why the most beautiful women can never win a beauty contest unless or until they have all the othe traits in them.Thats why she won.If u don't know the criteria of judgement of beauty contests then why don't u just shut up.
@tigergreg85 жыл бұрын
The strange thing about this is, she was picked to represent Korea, and the judges all down the line knew exactly who and what they were dealing with. What I mean is, if she isn't the best representation of Korea, then why did the majority, or all of the judges feel she was. It seems as though the competition doesn't agree with the so-called beauty standards of Korea. She's very pretty, obviously very intelligent and well spoken, but she wouldn't have been chosen if she didn't have all the standards in order. It's the public in general that have no clue what is right, and what is wrong. Thank goodness she won, and is trying to make a difference. It almost makes me feel as though the pageant wants her to make a difference, and help those who follow her. Her parents have every reason to be extremely proud of her. They raised a daughter who cries, not for herself, but for the thoughts and feelings of her parents. That is the mark of a person with a great Spirit about her. I wish her the best.

It is because the judges don’t represent Koreans. Miss Korea contest has had unfair judge issues from late 90’s. It has been revealed that some judges of the contest got bribe by the participants. At the same time, this contest is now out of the mind of Koreans. For that reason there are no TV stars who are Miss Korea for the last ten years. Moreover, recently Miss Korea lost a right to select Miss Universe participants of Korea because Miss Universe decided that Miss Korea is inappropriate.

I like her personality and articulation in this interview. Inner beauty is more attractive than outer beauty. Outer beauty is just temporary.
@LeNguyen-im8dm3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree that inner beauty is attractive, but I disagree that outer beauty is just temporary. For human life, temporary means few months or few years. For me, beauty appearance can last from a baby to 60+ years old if we have good diet, exercise, and dress nice. I am 37 years old, but I look under 30 years old without apply any anything on my face. I eat a lot of avocado, salmon, berries, and vegetable everyday, and I do resistant training too. Having a good health, which makes me calm and happy everyday. I don't have bad temper because I have stable blood glucose level. If I don't eat anything in 24 hrs, I am still energize and not moody.

Knowing how toxic the beauty/peagent industry is when it comes setting ridiculous standards such as weight should be below 49kg while being 5'8", not surprised they're banning the most unhealthiest food that could easily contribute to weight gain.
@Nogu33 жыл бұрын
I had a similar experience actually, though I admit I am a man and its probably nowhere near as absurd as her situation. I grew up in the countryside, Naju specifically where I used to wrestle a lot as a kid. In Korea we have a traditional form of martial arts called ssireum, or Korean folk wrestling, which is divided by weight divisions. I am part of the Baekdu division, the largest of combatants, under 160kg to be specific. When I went to Seoul for the first time, to see family there, I remember people gave me this "ugly look" like I was somehow doing something wrong just by existing. People would ask me constantly if "I needed to sit down" because of my size or if I "didn't like exercise." My entire life until that point was nothing but training, sweat and struggle, making my body and heart strong to survive in the ring, because I had a personal connection with Ssireum. It made me feel strong, relying only on myself, trusting my own ability and courage to win a fight as who I was. Hearing so much judgemental and harsh words from people who never understood or cared to ask eventually broke me, and I quit ssireum altogether. Of course I am much grown up, but I never returned to Ssireum, because I felt like my own people judged me without caring to even ask. During high school I got bullied for being "fat" as well, despite the fact I would say I was decently sturdy and strong, because I didn't fit in or look like the skinny, cool kpop idols and stuff. It hurt. Not because nobody cared to understand me, but because I wanted to he strong for them, for my family and my hometown, to be strong and bring them victory, but those who I fought for were the ones that struck me down.

I couldn't find any one in Korea saying her fat or chubby. Naver, any internet news, her instagram or what e v e r. Since around early 2000s, Koreans are not interested in miss Korea. I didn't know who's the winner and so does most(99.9999%) of Koreans. People don't really know who is the miss Korea so the contest winners and the contest org keep trying to make any issue about them such as wearing ridiculous cloths etc. Then, they become some news but still most people pay no attention on them. How can her weight be ever controversial when people don't know about her?

@@penguino3480 which country are you in and how tall are you? 45kg can't be fat even in Korea in most cases.
@piwo6475 жыл бұрын
@@penguino3480I have to differ, as the beauty standards have already changed in HK. 45kilos for 160 is not called fat in HK. Unless you are sort of skinny fat something that is quite common in mainland as some girls don't eat but don't do any sort of physical activity so they end of with weak frame and just gain fat in some areas over the years while maintaining skinny legs (in my opinion not a great look). But they don't weight much as they have very small frame and little muscle. Nowadays beauty standards in HK are more toward a toned body regardless of your height and weight. This was influenced heavily by the west of course.

I could understand why she won: she's true to herself, she's sweet, genuine and not afraid to speak her mind. She's not only pretty on the outside but she's also very pretty on the inside. I really like how she's real, i admire that. The society's beauty standard that these koreans put out for these girls are terrible and im hoping it would change someday, though we know that it is close to impossible.. :(

This woman is amazing. Koreans have to get over their ridiculous beauty standards.
@mortarriding39135 жыл бұрын
At this point, you cannot say they are standards of beauty. They are repressing women, by expecting them to be malnourished. My partner is East Asian, 165cm, and 60kg. She's fit. Probably a lower body fat percentage than most beauty pageant contestants. Fitness has a reasonably strong correlation to intelligence. And someone's ability to function in society without help. Expecting people taller than that to be dramatically lighter is a form of cultural repression.

She's the perfect representation of Korea because she is natural and non-materialistic. She didn't care about winning or losing. When she cried, it was about her parents. Not herself. She deserved to win. Edit: Let me correct myself for the very many people who have a problem with my original statement: She is the perfect representation of a good, humble, down to earth human being. She still deserved to win, though.
