You should do an interview with Jr asking him to break down what a typical day of a groom looks like. Rich Strike was so calm with him - they seem to have a strong connection
@JumpCutThis2 жыл бұрын
I’d love that- a grooms work is exhausting, incredibly difficult, requires extensive knowledge,and a great love of the animals you train. Hearing from him would be very educational for anyone considering this area to become employed.

Wished I would have seen these interviews prior to the Derby lol Incredible to see and witness the last of the Dixons, hopefully a son or nephew keeps it going for generations to come. Reading about the true history of the Kentucky Derby is incredible. It was built off the sweat of African/Black Americans. To still see a family today so involved and seeing it payoff is heart warming. Much respect to the Dixon family for continuing a legacy in the Kentucky circuit.

When Rich Strike won, and saw that video of them caring for and walking "Richie" back you can see the love and care they have for him. I am really proud of your Inside the Backstretch videos highlighting these key players and part of horse racing. The Dixons being part of Rich Strikes team is now what makes me most proud of that horse!

THIS. This is what makes your channel so great. I have been a fan for a longtime and I knew you would capture moments like this that are so often overlooked. So pleased to see you spoke to the team before the Derby. It feels surreal to watch now and hear Jerry Dixon Jr say Rich Strike is his favorite horse. The interview with Jeff Perrin and the one with the whole team after the race were also great. Keep sharing these incredible stories!!

Just found your channel via Twitter, and I just love someone is telling these backstretch stories. The Dixons should be a feature to show the best of racing, and the unsung heroes of the sport, as well. Thank you for sharing this story of the Dixons. It's exactly the story I wanted to see once I saw the gentlemen taking care of Rich Strike post Derby. It's clear they have more of a connection to the horse than the trainer and owner; the horse displays comfort and trust with them.

Did you know that this totally made me tear up!? I really wish I would have known more about this prior the derby but it's all about the timing. God spoke about the underdog horse coming through and winning so we all kept our eyes and ears open for it. Little did I know what happens behind the scenes which I LOVE because we have a smoking BBQ business and no one knows how many days go into it prior to the food coming off the smoker! They are just there for the food... I was just there to see the win cause God sent me but what a heck of a gem to see BEHIND the scenes! Truly an awesome channel! I will be talking about this in days to come! I hope it helps lift this channel further!

Let's hope someone scratches... Man these guys was on some prayers that came through. Great to see this before Rich was even entered into the race.
Wow, you know you get a lot of videos out there on KZbin that you watch, and you say cool and don't think about it again. This video is different. It sticks with you because it is a story about how a work ethic makes you what you are. If you look at what this guy is saying and what is needed to make a winning horse, a lot of it is similar. It is like this guy conformed his and his family's life to make a winner. The first thing is this guy, and his son doesn't care about the $ they care about the horse. Second, it is all about the work ethic. Getting up in the morning, sleeping with the horse if need be, and refitting the stable are all part of what they are. Third, he talks about his family in a way that if he didn't do things right, he would be letting down generations of his family. I even liked the last part where the son was too busy to talk. His action says it's all about the horse. I know it is just a video, but a lot of people could learn a lot from the way these guys live their life.

It's true not many black men doing what the Dixon family dynasty does anymore and that is sad. Most of these jobs were picked up by latinos (my people). Two reasons why not many black men involved, they have become educated and have higher paying jobs or like you stated this young generation is lazy, they won't get up early in the morning much less get dirty. You won't get in trouble it's the truth. Latinos are doing these jobs because they grew up in third world countries. I just hope they are working there legally, if not they need to go. My respects to you and your family Mr. Dixon.

Noticed they are from Louisville. Does the groomer just work at Churchill Downs and take care of Rich Strike when he’s boarded there, or does he work for the trainer on his farm? It seems like he’s with the horse all the time, but I was just curious how it worked. Great video!

What’s wrong with his tongue? 😟
@virtualcowgirl39222 жыл бұрын
Nothing, he's got a lip chain which is causing him to keep his tongue out. He's a hyper Thoroughbred, so without the chain or shank as they call it he can overpower his groom. The shank gives his handlers the ability to control his head. It's been used for years, and no it doesn't hurt them.

@casssmith26102 жыл бұрын
Thank you for these explanations. I had a quarter horse years ago and I’d never seen the tongue movement like this. I boarded my horse in the race barns for a year... those thoroughbreds were obviously not hyper! Also not winners much!

I do have an education! Maybe you should open your eyes he has a chain hurting his mouth in this video and when he had won he was being punched in his face ! The idiot on the other horse wasn't letting him have any room to move and when the horse got frustrated he got punched so maybe watch it again chains, whips and bits should be outlawed they are torture devices and shouldn't be used!

Your probably not running horses because black men have a heavier build compared to these men that came from third world countries the have small stature and small build due to lack of food.

So you think that your uneducated racist comments about people from "third world countries" makes white folks accept you more?
@michellenainkristinabusch12212 жыл бұрын
You're very uneducated. Kendrick is a black jockey. People only grow to their surroundings, it's called adaptation. A person who has more room to grow will do so, and the opposite is true. Puerto Rican's are small because they live on a small island. We evolved to where we live.
