In this episode I was just trying out a rig I plan to use for an upcoming job. We sandwich two Dana Dollies together so that we can undermount a Lambda Head for an overhead move.

Thanks for having me! And really fun meeting some of the other professionals in the area too. My instagram is @tonivuc if anyone wants to see what I'm up to in Norway.

Informative video, Luke! The show I'm currently crewing on has used an almost identical setup several times, although we used just the one overslung carriage which worked just fine, we just used a 6" riser to provide us with the clearance. A great trick to avoid a complex dolly/jib setup which requires much more space.

Cool! How heavy was the attached head and camera below? Are you able to share photos?

That was used on Spike Lee's "Get on the Bus" 1996 inside the bus. Keep the presentations coming.

Great Video - how thick are steel pipe (rails) the dana travels on, as you dont seem to get any bending in the middle? Many Thanks

Not a significantly larger diameter than 1-1/2” speed rail, but the difference in material really stiffens up the rig.

Would love to see the finished product of this rig!

Haven't used a Lambda in a couple years..50 lbs seems low haha.

I’ll find out today, but for the record, I did swing my full body on the rig and nothing came crashing down:)

@@FieldofViewtv It worked great! We added a ratchet strap around the two Dana's for a safety, but the rig worked well.

Great video as always! I just have one question: Why did you use two Dana dollies? Wouldn't just the top one be enough?
@meetthegaffer5 жыл бұрын
Perhaps, but then I would probably need a short riser so that the Lambda head would clear the rails. This would change the center point. Also, if the operator wants to pan or tilt, the force that would put on a single Dana is significant because the Lambda is a heavy attachment. By using two Dana’s my thought is that it will be able to withstand more twisting and torque from below, more like a captured dolly.

@@meetthegaffer That makes sense. Thanks for your response!

Why the 2 dana dollies, couldn't t it be underslung with just the one dana dolly on the top with the head mounted to the bottom? I've done that quite a bit, but curious what this offers?
@meetthegaffer5 жыл бұрын
I wanted to do away with the short riser. See response to Jan Ludwig.

How long do you think you could make this setup? Probably using thicker pipes?
@meetthegaffer7 ай бұрын
20ft? With steel pipe.
