Do you want to study the effects of pedophiles as they interact with with children? Possibly the long term affects of children with gender dysphoria who were allowed to transition? I can certainly see an academic interest in that ......If I were Joseph Goebbels.

Nobody cares about children more than their parents (with rare exceptions). Teachers can never compete. That said, I don't condemn anyone for how they choose to educate their children (within reason). One of our children is homeschooled full time because that's what he needs. One of our children rebelled against homeschooling and went to govt schools starting in eighth grade. One of our children was adopted from a boarding school in China when she was 14. She homeschooled for a few months but it was so foreign to her experiences in China, we didn't see how it could work, and we were worried it would get in the way of developing the relationship we wanted with her, so she also goes to a govt school, and does a part-time nursing program as well at a specialized trade school. There are lots of options, and only parents are equipped to navigate them and help their children choose what's best for them. Homeschooling is not the answer. Charters are not the answer. Public schools are not the answer. Caring, involved parents and lots of options are the answer.

I don't think the exceptions are as rare as you would like to believe. Abused and neglected children may or may not have other adults who do care about them (I didn't), but it's simply not true that parents who don't (or can't) love their kids are rare. It's just not true.

Home-schooled kids are almost invariably weird. There's something to be said for educating children along with their peers.

Public education has failed millions of children and covid policies have only highlighted how bad some schools are. Public schools could be so much better if they focused on core subjects instead of some of the nonsense we see.
