The success of the Koch brothers tells us the most lucrative investment in US is not in oil, or high tech, or weapon manufacturing, but in politicians. You give them $1 million in campaign donation and they will give you $1 billion in tax cuts and subsidies, no other investment has such a high rate of return.

Finally someone does a story on the Koch brothers. Sam, you are doing more good for the truth that most news orgs! The Koch brothers have backed so many legislators in my state that promised to “bring back coal jobs,” and do a ton else, but bottom line, they go city by city and have bought the city councilman and donated to the city to make it sway their way for anything that comes up. My state has been bought and paid for by the brothers; their “policy” has pretty much changed the state of KY in the last 10 years, although I’ know I’ve heard the name in the news, at times pretty controversially, since I’ve lived here over 25 years. Check out the courier journal out of Louisville for honest stories with them. I have to wonder if Paul Ryan hasn’t had some if not a lot of influence from them. The FEC hasn’t filed what he’s taken in in the last year or even year and a half. I’d love to see if the senators from KY that always vote consistently are being bought out by the Koch brothers. Maybe digging for an intern?

I once saw a political cartoon where there was a map of the United States of America. In this image, all of the landlocked states were in red with one big word bubble that said "climate change is a myth." Meanwhile, all of the coastal/southern border states were blue with multiple word bubbles that said "we beg to differ" since those landlocked states don't see the impacts of climate change that coastal states do. Also, you'd figure that more Conservative Evangelicals would actually care about climate change and it's impacts on society. Keep in mind, the Bible does say that the Earth is God's gift to man, and it's our duty to take care of it and everyone/everything on it. But, even if they found a way around this, you'd figure that they would at least want to prevent millions of migrants from countries that are no longer habitable from wanting to come to America in future decades.
@rhodawatkins45165 жыл бұрын
Jesse Torres Oh, Jesse, I'm afraid evangelicals skipped over some chapters in the bible, like the ones about loving thy neighbor, and taking care of the Earth, and are doing everything they can to cut right to the end times. Have you ever spoken to an Evangelical? I live in the Bible Belt, and I sure have. Almost all of them expect Christ's second coming literally any day now. So concern about disasters 20-40 years away isn't part of their life. "Jesus is coming, and he will set things right." I've lost track of how many times I've heard that. Of course both Jesus himself (if you believe the Gospels) and the Apostle Paul both said that Jesus would return in the lifetime of those listening. Seems that almost 2,000 years later people would start to suspect that wasn't true.

Koch Industries, Inc. is an American multinational corporation based in Wichita, Kansas. Its subsidiaries are involved in the manufacturing, refining, and distribution of petroleum, chemicals, energy, fiber, intermediates and polymers, minerals, fertilizers, pulp and paper, chemical technology equipment, ranching, finance, commodities trading, and investing. Koch owns Invista, Georgia-Pacific, Molex, Flint Hills Resources, Koch Pipeline, Koch Fertilizer, Koch Minerals, Matador Cattle Company, and Guardian Industries. The firm employs 120,000 people in 60 countries, with about half of its business in the United States. The company is the largest landowner in the Athabasca oil sands. In March 1999, Koch Petroleum Group acknowledged that it had negligently discharged hundreds of thousands of gallons of aviation fuel into wetlands from its refinery in Rosemount, Minnesota, and that it had illegally dumped a million gallons of high-ammonia wastewater onto the ground and into the Mississippi River. Koch Petroleum paid a $6 million fine and $2 million in remediation costs, and was ordered to serve three years of probation. And one more thing... Koche funded Citizens United. Wow. They can't even truly agree to fight for the survival of the planet? That is disturbing and scary for many reasons.

6:10 - This was a sad moment for environmentally friendly Oregon. Tom McCall was rolling in his grave when those protesters showed up.

I am surprised that President Chump hasn’t jumped aboard the Climate Change Wagon as he has properties near the coast all over the place

Trump's golf course in Scotland applied for building permits for seawalls to protect parts of the course from erosion due to rising seas. But that must be completely unrelated to climate change. I wonder what Trump will do when Mar A Lago is at sea level. It's pretty close to that now.

It isn't just two guys who have killed climate-change mitigation thus far, it's two billionaires representing one of the most powerful industries ever. Not that we shouldn't still make an example out of them, but we also need to remember who's behind them when we do so.

Over a 100 mil? Letting Americans believe BS can't cost more than a couple of cents. They believe anything you tell them on TV.
