The Washougal National is officially here and MXA's Trevor Nelson scoured the pits to meet the riders who are lining up in the 450 class tomorrow on 250 two-strokes. Carson Brown is a crowd favorite as he lives in the Pacific Northwest and he has raced a 250 two-stroke at this event the last few years. But he's going to be battling with Jerry Robin, Anthony Rodriguez, Matt Burkeen, Kevin Moranz and more money-hungry riders looking for their slice of the $25,000 that's up for grabs thanks to Moto Memes, Jettson Donuts, Motorsport, KTM, and Washougal for pitching in money for the top three placing two-stroke riders in the 450 class.

This has more potential than everyone realizes. I’ve struggled this year in all honestyto watch it with so many guys out. Why can’t there be a 2t championship within the premier championship? It would give so many more guys a chance and something to race for. Not to mention the publicity. Sounds like KTM stepped up for a few guys. I bet we would see a factory 250’s again if it was a 2 tier race within 1 race.

Not wrong dude, AMA are so backwards even making these guys enter the 450 class in Australia they changed the rules back in like 2014 and for the first few years the gates were full of 250 2 strokes in the 250 class with guys going racing, being competitive in the HP department without having to spend 10-20 grand on a race motor. Best thing to ever happen

It’s a bummer they won’t permit 150 2t, 300 2t, or even 250 2t in its own class. However these media outlets should create a two stroke championship within the rounds of SX and MX just like how Pulp hosts the Privateer championship. It will create new opportunities for upcoming amateurs or Vets in the class, have best of both worlds 2 Stroke and 4 Stroke riders, make racing accessible again, and well the racing will be a lot more fun. Pretty much an Unofficial Class as the riders qualify in with the Two Strokes as Voluntarily. This is a beginning of a new era, and I’m all for it. Hopefully someone makes it happen. But for now let’s enjoy this One of a Kind Washougal Round 🤙

The AMA did this! When four strokes came out with 400cc they were not competitive so the AMA upped it and let them race 450cc bikes. Now something should be done to accommodate 2 strokes to make them competitive. This will not happen because the fans do not matter. This is a manufacturer series so really its only purpose is to sell new bikes.

That's obvious, they are a much closer match. With all the money and development in 4 strokes, I dont they can even take a chance on any 2 stroke finishing very high up. It doesnt fit the marketing. Obviously a 450 kills a 250 stroke. A properly developed 450 2 stroke could probably beat a 250 4 stroke.

Should be equal displacement, the regs helped the 4 strokes out back in the day because they needed it, now there way more developed than the 2 strokes so it should be equal cc

Yeh it’s pretty pathetic, we allow 250 2 strokes to enter the 250 class here in Australia, there’s limits to how much engine work you can do but the guys that want to go racing on a budget can do so and the 250 4 strokes still win the championships so everybody’s happy. I just got a 23 yz250 2 stroke for my first dirt bike and I can't seem to lean it out enough for 750ft elevation. Fouled a plug in an hour at 32:1 yamalube. 2 stroke should never die though, they're amazing to hear and the power is insane

During the race James and Jason were talking about the 4t's being a superior technology. OK, I'll give them that, since they have recieved all the development dollars for years. If true then why in the hell can't we let the 250 2t's race in the 250 class, and open class be an open class? Then, in a few years we'll see what happens.

They just need to allow 2 stroke 300's in the class...same power as the 450's, so why not? Make it interesting...It's as if the AMA was bought by brands that wanted to push the 4 stroke, high priced bike movement though...I was actively riding 3 days a week when 4 strokes started to take over so I remember the transition very well and although my dads 2004 CRF250 was super fun to ride, the transition was a bummer.

Brown (pro circuit), Robin (XPR), Burkeen (JMS) have mod engines on their Yamaha’s! The KTM don’t need much porting on cylinders but they need ECU work and that’s what Moranz and Rodriguez got on their bikes.

@@romainbrb6935 How much does it cost for ECU work? I'm a long time Yamaha fan, but been thinking about getting a KTM 250SX. I been told in stock form the KTMs sign off early compared to the YZs. Its very hard to separate myself from the Reliability of my YAMAHA but have been considering changing

@@Legalizeranch420 I've ridden a KTM 250SX one time and was Very Impressed for somthing rt out of the box. As for my 2010 Yamaha I have Pro Circuit Porting, PC pipe and silencer and V Force 3 Reeds and it Pulls Hard in Every gear and the Top End goes forever. My suspension is stock and Love it for my level. The KTM suspension needed work to get to what my Yamy has. The reliability of the Yamy is 2nd to none. KTM handled better in turns and Brakes were awesome. My Yamy was better in the bumpy or woops in the straights, more stable. Each has there advantages and disadvantages depends on the rider style. I'm a Vet Racer on a budget so Reliability is HUGE for me and suspension work is very Pricey so I choose Yamaha. But the KTM is very tempting to me

@@Legalizeranch420 I haven’t rode the new KTM chassis but I love the YZ125/250 chassis, it feels really comfortable. The gearbox is really weak on the YZ250, 3rd gear breaks a lot. I like a 250 2 stroke that’s fairly smooth though because I’m light so maybe that new KTM engine would be good.
