The last meal was a scorpion. The male owl may have been making certain that his prey was dead before offering it to his mate, therefore avoiding a fatal sting to mom or chicks. Just sayin’...

When it says size doesn’t matter, that’s wrong. Size matters a lot. There are specific reasons Elf Owls evolved to be this size and it helps them survive, even if we don’t know what the reasons are

One disturbing thing about the sound effects of the video. Elf owls are silent fliers, yet the sound effect guys have added a rather loud swooshing sound as if it is a hawk, or some other loud flying bird.

Thanks for this but there’s nothing in this to give an idea of scale. I know how hard this is trust me I tried to photograph spring peepers here in New Jersey and getting my thumbnail next to one is a challenge. I take it these things are about the size of a house sparrow 😮
