In today's episode of God of War: Ragnarök, we journey to Asgard (WEIRD!) and meet the SCARY LOOKING Heimdall, meet another potential love interest who's kind of the daughter of an enemy (the drama omg???), get manipulated by Odin (NOT traumatizing at all but unexpectedly funny haha) and hang out with Thor (SUPER WEIRD!!!).

54:42 For some context, Heimdall can read others' immediate intentions, it's how he's so good at dodging. Notice how Thor wanted him to read his intentions here, and he quickly glanced down. Thor was looking at Atreus' arrow, which Heimdall was holding at the time. Thor's intention was so disgusting that Heimdall surrendered almost immediately, and threw down the arrow. Basically, Thor wanted to shove that arrow up Heimdall's "asgard" if ya catch my meaning. That's why he called him a "sick man". Thor nasty.

55:06 that part where odin is finessing the boi is so amazing to see because in the span of like 5-10 mins odin uses every trick in a manipulators book to get on atreus's good side -teleports him where he knows hiemdall will find him (the mind reader who hates any and all threats to asgard and will prod at the boi whenever he gets the chance) which acts as a juxtaposition where odin gets to act all friendly and through that helps lowers atreus's guard little by little -the humor, the charm the gifts and knowing that atreus loves reading and always wants to learn more as a way to soften him up more -finally the rift and the promise that they can *both* get what they want in the end with nobody getting hurt (the greatest lie odin can tell the boi) are all fitted into such a compact scene that both atreus and us controlling the boi *want* to hope atreus is right and hope this can end peacefully but as was the case in 1930's europe and here in the 9 realms there are just some people that cannot be reasoned with or appeased I personally believe that given odins track record the moment he got what he wanted out of atreus he would have offed him with no hesitation same as he did with groa

It's honestly spooky how effective Odin's manipulation is. We know from preceding events that he's absolutely not trustworthy, but his warm words, witty humor and general "kind grandpa" demeanor are just so disarming I find myself warming up to him even though I know I probably shouldn't. Also it's a bit scary how well he reads Atreus and how quickly he figures out exactly which strings to pull to draw him in like a fish on a hook.

And then Kratos told him that at his birth Kratos made two knives, one for himself and the other for the boy, when he was ready. And gave him that knife. "I'm being manipulated and I _like_ it!" was too funny, and the way your face lit up at the slightest _hint_ of a shiptease brought me the biggest smile. lol You may have felt more vulnerable as Atreus, but it definitely wasn't reflected in your gameplay. You handled all of the combat this time around really well, from the wights in the woods, to all the Muspelheim mobs. All around great episode, Tofu!

01:49:48 emmm. noooo... barrel not portal :) They both have their own identical knives (kinda). In 2018, Kratos gave Atreus his new knife after he used his mom's knife to stab Modi in the neck. It went over the cliff with Modi's body. He explained that when Atreus was born, he forged them using metals from his homeland and metals from Midgard. They don't have any special powers (that we know of) but they serve as symbol of their connection to each other. That scene was just a nice transition from Atreus to Kratos.

You got everything right, except he knife was given to Atreus after losing his mother's knife to a trap/puzzle in Tyr's vault. He actually used the knife of mixed metals to stab Modi, saying "This is a much better knife than Mother's." before kicking him over the cliff.

Don't worry about struggling with Odin's manipulation. I mean Heimdall can read minds (supposedly) and yet he believes in Odin whole heartedly. I mean he believes that a Giant didn't build the wall, but we know that isn't the case. Maybe Odin is so good at manipulation that even he believes what he is saying is true, so Heimdall can't tell how full of crap Odin really is.

I loved the sections with Atreus; the whole time in Muspelheim with Thor had me on edge and Odin really does have me going "huh maybe he's not so bad" even though we've spent countless hours with Baldur, Freya, Mimir and Tyr being living examples of how his behaviour hurts those around him

I like the slight difference in how the Kratos gang refer to all their gear as "made by Sindri" or "crafted by the gods of Olympus" making sure to shout out the people before them who contributed to their lives; while all the Odinssons only give credit to Odin "All-Father gave it to me" "a gift from Odin himself", never taking a moment to acknowledge the dwarves or giants that Odin got it from

Really enjoying your playthrough! The entire section after first meeting Odin is such a masterclass in how to manipulate people - not a single thing Odin says or does in front of Atreus is by accident. From dismissing Heimdall to forming an "in group" ("they don't think - we do") with him - Odin seemingly is giving him everything he was missing in his relationship with the others. It perfectly illustrates just how much Atreus is out of his depth when it comes to Odin. Odin manipulates on a level so far beyond that he subdued the nine realms by those means (mostly). And Atreus thinks he can slip his agenda by him...

Fun Fact about Thor: his body doesn't have a shred of fat.. that is 100% bulk muscle... for guys when we reach a certain point of muscle mass our muscles are no longer defined... you could see this in many bodybuilders today... examples being Hafthor Bjornsson and Eddie Hall... there are other fictional examples that have used this... Kingpin from marvel being a prime example.

Well this video was a nice surprise for my Easter Sunday 😊 I'm sure someones already explained this in the comments somewhere but on the off chance you're still confused about the knife thing, I'll elaborate. In the last game Kratos said he forged two knives when he came to these lands, one for himself and one for Atreus for when he was ready. So what you seeing in this scene is Atreus putting down his knife on a barrel and then Kratos picking up his own. A good excuse for a fancy transition from one scene to another if ever I saw one. Also I'm happy to see someone else agree that Loki and Thrud would make an interesting couple. For me, it's a bit of a unique situation. I was already pretty familiar with his actor, Richard Schiff, who played Toby Ziegler on The West Wing. He did a phenomenal job on the show and he was one of my favorite characters, hence why it was so surprising to see him play Odin. I was so used to seeing him as an upstanding, morally righteous person in TWW that seeing him play the charismatic Odin was just so shocking, despite knowing that Odin cannot be trusted and especially what he did to Freya and Mimir.

Interesting fact: According to Norse Mythology, the gods tried to trick a master builder (who was actually a Giant) into building a wall around Asgard. It’s a long story, but apparently at some point when the wall was unfinished, Thor returned from his travels, saw the Giant, and killed him. The gods built the rest of the wall by themselves, which is probably why the wall gets more rough and crude around the top. Nice detail.

1:49:12 I love this transition because of the knives. In the 2018 game Kratos gave Atreus that knife after Atreus lost/broke Faye's knife saving Kratos from the trap in Tyr's temple. When Kratos gave Atreus the knife, he told the boy the story about how and why he made them. "One the day you were born I made two knives. Mixing metals from my home and of this land. One for myself and when you were ready, one for you. Today is that day." So, when Atreus looks at his before putting it down and then Kratos picks his up and looks at it, I like to think they were both thinking of the moment when Kratos gave Atreus his knife. It is not a portal; Atreus didn't pass his knife to Kratos. They just each have one of a pair and it is just a clever transition from one character to the other. Although, I did have that thought myself for a couple of seconds when I first played the game.

We meet a who's who of dysfunctional deities during this section, get that peek on the inside that only someone like Atreus would be able to see. Heimdal being Odin's imperfect tool, realizing Thor and Sif being hit alot harder by Magni and Modi's deaths than we thought they would be, to Odin himself manipulating the entire interaction between Atreus and all these people. It's downright diabolical how Odin operates, and we know he isn't to be trusted, so you just wait for that other shoe to eventually drop. I too had an abusive manipulative parent so I could see Odin's shtick from a mile away

Loki WOULD know the whole story, since he was PART of it... Hrimthur came to Asgard and offered to build a wall for Asgard, in exchange for the hand of Freya, as well as the sun and moon. Loki suggested allowing him to work, reasoning that it would be impossible. To ensure this, the gods added a stipulation that he was to complete his work in a single winter, and would have the aid of only his horse. The gods promised they would not interfere with him in any way. As the winter wore on, the wall neared completion, so Loki took action, transforming himself into a mare, then distracting the builder's HORSE. They had promised not to interfere with HIM, his horse was fair game. As a result, the wall was finished, and the giant slain by Thor. Loki, meanwhile, had become pregnant by the builder's horse, and gave birth to a wondrous steed called Sleipnir, eight legged, which Odin took for himself.

Sif might sound a little familiar to you. That because she is voiced by Emily Rose aka Elena from the Uncharted series of games. So, Emily Rose went from the Uncharted series where she played the wife of Nathan Drake voiced, and sister-in-law to Sam Drake voiced by Troy Baker.
