As a huge Rush and Neil Peart fan, I really enjoyed hearing this story. I’m currently reading Geddy Lee’s book right now. I usually don’t get too upset when celebrities and musicians pass away but Neil’s passing was hard to deal with for me. He went through all those personal tragedies with his daughter and wife passing away close to one another and managed to re-marry and have another daughter, retired and then got sick. It sucks, life is not fair sometimes. Atleast we will always have his music.

Thanks glad you enjoyed it. I feel the same way I was devastated when Neil died I was teaching when I got a hundred texts saying he had died I had to stop my lesson I was blown away!!

Wow, I was just as excited listening to your story as you were in telling it. The fact that Neil followed up to tell you he liked the final recordings shows that you must have earned his respect. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing such a great story. What an amazing experience for him to listen to and comment on YOUR playing! Crazy cool also that you worked with Terry Brown! I love attempting to play Neil's stuff. What an awesome human being!

Awesome story. Always a treat to hear a drummer meeting his idol and fighting off the fanboy urge. But getting compliments on your performance on the recordings is the icing on the cake. 👍

Great story. I was rehearsing at River 16 around the same time and clearly remember Rob telling us about Terry Brown working with a Beatles tribute !

Wow that’s incredible! What at a small world. The band went on to do well. Like I mentioned no costumes but sound was there!

@@drumteacher43 The small world gets smaller ;-) The same band rehearsing at River 16 did quite a few sets at the "Retro Rock Lounge" !

What a great story! Neil seemed like a great guy. I remember in his book 'Ghost Rider' that he said he enjoyed stopping into roadside diners on his motorcycle and engaging in conversation with local folks - as long as he remained anonymous. Of course he spelled out his feelings about adulation in "Limelight". I was 15 when I first heard Neil's playing (the intricate fill near the end of "Fly By Night"). As a drummer, that made me sit up and take notice. I became a big Rush fan. Neil was the man!

Very cool I had a similar experience. Met Clive Bunker after a Martin Barre Band show in Peterborough. Waited until the fan boy drummers left, walked up and said" Clive you play pretty good for an old guy" He burst out laughing and we talked Drums and old Tull stuff for a while. Just a wonderful guy.
