Regarding the "Don't do that" All Might is doing a very traditional show of respect, called Dogeza, it's an extremely demeaning way of bowing, something a peasant would do to a lord while pleading for his life. Him doing that is an extremely heavy show of respect to his mother. You'd never see people do it in modern day unless they'd done something truly unforgivable.

Same with the time he’s chained up at the sports festival-both things are treated as jokes because that’s just how the show is right now. 25:59 I'm pretty sure Deku said that because, in Japanese culture, when you put your face on the ground like All Might did (it's called Dogeza), it means putting yourself below everyone else or at least the ones in front of you, so him as the Top Hero, he looks like he's basically humiliating and disrespecting himself in that moment.

I love it, in the West we call it prostration. You usually see it in religious settings like in Christian churches or Muslim mosques. In the East, it originated in Imperial China and spread throughout the Sinosphere (hence how it reached Japanese culture); called the kowtow. Everyone in the presence of the Chinese emperor must perform kowtow to display reverence and submission. Same was done in the face of the Emeperor of Japan, if I’m not mistaken.

I disagree. She knew from the get go how deadly and dangerous the path of a hero can be, even before he got to UA. Now here she scapegoats the school, when Deku literally is owning up to his own responsibility in the matters of him getting injured repeatedly. While the school does bear some responsibility, ultimately Deku knowingly and willingly chose to break the rules and such at the end of the day. She is doing the "my precious lil' angel would never" bit that oftentimes leads to spoiled selfishness if circumstances were different for Deku. And I do get that she's worried about her kid, I do.... but she was never truly honest with him, letting him think as Eraserhead said at the very beginning, the cruelty of giving Deku false hope. It is clear here that she had always wanted Deku to fail to become a hero, because she knew what the dangers of being a hero was like. But Deku is stubborn. He wanted UA because that was the school that All Might went to.... but such is his determination that he doesn't care what hero school it is, he is willing to take a less spotlighted school if it means he can still achieve his goals somehow.

Fun fact about Bakugo's parents: His mother, Mitsuki's Quirk is Glycerine and gives her the ability to secrete Glycerin from her skin. Because of its moisturizing effect, she maintains great skin quality, despite her age. His father Masaru's Quirk, Acid Sweat, allows him to secrete acidic sweat with combustive properties from the palms of his hands. Unlike his son however, he cannot forcibly secrete it, and it comes out like normal sweat. If he rubs his hands together, then he can create explosions. Their history😌😏 At some point in her early life, Mitsuki met Masaru Bakugo and was instantly in love. At the time, Masaru was working at a job that involved fashion, which flattered Mitsuki. Mitsuki hit on Masaru rather aggressively, making him say yes to a date. After a long time of chasing him, they eventually got married and had their son, Katsuki, sometime later.

Bakugo's temperament is definitely a caused by being raised by a mother like Mitsuki but I think she's right too. He has a powerful quirk that we've seen praised since he was a small child and as she said he's good at everything he tries. He's been touted as the best at everything so any sign of doubt or any failure he experiences is heightened by expectations people and he himself have placed on Bakugo. About the reaction of Midoria's mother, this is actually a topic that comes up quite a bit in American comic books. People joke that Batman and Wolverine are in a competition to see who can accumulate the most dead girlfriends, but it does show the terrible consequences that can come to the people superheroes love. As was shown in the movies, sometimes the X-Mansion gets attacked, and some of the younger students get caught in the crossfire. That example is very relevant to UA. In the case of Xavier's school, there are no angry parents demanding their children back because most of those kids were disowned by their families, and the other parents know that their kids are probably safer at the school even with the occasional supervillain attack because outside the school, those kids would be more vulnerable to human lynch mobs. There's a scene I really love from the Spider-Man comic books. Mary Jane Watson had just figured out that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. She saw a story on TV news about Spider-Man, and delivered an amazing monologue. She basically freaked out while watching the TV, and kind of talked to herself/the TV. She realized that now she knew who Spider-Man was, every news story about Spider-Man felt different. Instead of being impressed with Spider-Man, she was worried for Peter, and that clearly bothered her a lot (as evidenced by kind of wigging out and talking to her TV).

Kenny: "I never understood that line." It has to do with Japanese culture and bowing. How deeply you bow to someone else conveys a lot. For example, if two people bow to each other, the person who bows more deeply is saying that he or she is socially beneath the other person. Here, All Might is doing the deepest possible bow by putting his forehead in the floor while he apologizes. Midoria reacts that way because his hero is really debasing himself with that apology, and he probably doesn't like the implication that he and his mother are above All Might, even in that moment.

I think that deku saying "all might, don't..." in the situation where all might is asking for forgiveness, is more in response to the matter that all might is talking about. Ar that point, all might is saying that he wants to guide deku into not doing the same things and making the same mistakes that all might himself did in his early hero days. All might is being very hard on himself and is feeling pretty heavy from regret after the fight with all for one, so hes being more hyper critical of himself. 8:42 I mean, even ignoring the "everyone is still just talking about Allmight" part and the "spectacle", thats not what matters. As bad as he is, Endeavor worked for one SINGULAR goal his entire life. To be the best instead of Allmight. (Though sadly that deviated later) Focus, commitment, desparation and other emotions on a level that many people can't even imagine. And in the end, he didn't get to be the best. What he wanted and worked for was completely denied. Allmight is gone, even if he were to surpass him, there is no way to confirm anymore. I know the feeling of wanting to surpass someone with everything you've got (even though it wasn't close to a battle for #1) and being completely denied even the chance of this is devastating. Everything becomes worthless. As weird as it may sound, it's pain on a similar level (though I wont claim the SAME) as loosing a loved one, because you just lost what made you, you. No relationship will ever be deeper than the one a person has with themselves. If that gets shaken up or destroyed, its pure pain, but also room for massive growth if handled right. Which is an obviously massive theme for Endeavor. The author did a marvellous job with this imo.
@tofu_golem Жыл бұрын
Context: That house the Todoroki family lives in is very expensive. Endeavor's tantrum reminds me of Bakugo as well. One comic book trope is that people have personalities that go with their superpower. Bakugo has the power to create explosions, and his personality matches that. I assume that his mother has a similar power, and thus a similar personality. About Bakugo's family, apparently Frank Oz (director, voice of Miss Piggy, Yoda, etc) is from a family a lot like Bakugo's, which Jim Henson was shocked by (there is an interview in which Henson or Oz described a dinner in which someone yelled "Pass the salt!"). Jim Henson was a quiet, mild-mannered person.

They are shouting but to me it comes off as almost playful. It doesn't seem like they are actually angry at any point, just sharing a hyped up vibe. Like being facetious vs sarcastic. IT reminds me of how people who are close can make fun of each other without hurting each other's feelings, but if a stranger said the same things it would be very rude. I don't think it's why Bakugo picks on Deku. That seems to be born more of the other kids holding him up above everyone else due to his high confidence. "I'll k*ll you" isn't an insult or threat, it's to hype himself up.

Just recently we fostered a very very adorable kitty for.. idk a few months? that a while earlier stayed with us over night (when we picked her up the first time), that was kinda a funny situation, my mum was working a night shift and I was at home with my boyfriend and I had the window open and noticed a neighbour trying to lure the cat to her, so I immediately asked what was going on and then rushed to get some treats and I managed to lure her into our basement and called our neighbour (another of the four main members) for help to try and identify the cat. I took her in over night, gave her everything she needed, called my mum and we managed to organise everything so she was back to where she was supposed to be, before my boyfriend ever got up 😅🤣🤣 Why we fostered her for so long is another story, but she's with a loving family now 😅🥰

Well after an incredibly heartfelt tearful goodbye with All-Might last episode…let’s just keep that ball rolling because MHA just sometimes does NOT give you a break from the heavy emotions. Let’s start with All-Might punching Deku on the beach. Deku had broken the rules, and in a way that EASILY could’ve resulted in catastrophe if they failed. BUT, the fact All-Might talks about how Deku isn’t careful and how he’s always destroying himself INFURIATED me. All-Might is the ONLY person outside Gran Torino capable of understanding Deku’s quirk condition and ALL-MIGHT has failed getting him better ways to use OFA without hurting himself. And he COMPLETELY ignored his OWN TEACHING. I would say he should have said do as I say not as I do, but he also said “interfering where you don’t necessarily have to is the ESSENCE of being a hero.” YOU made this problem All-Might. YOU made him the hero YOU have always been. There hasn’t been a situation where you weren’t training him to be this selfless and are only upset NOW that the repercussions have reached you. From a teacher perspective, this is horrible. But from a father perspective…this is one of the most heart warming scenes. Because it’s like he quit to raise and spend more time with his son. And I love that. This is why I love All-Might. I ENJOY being conflicted about him because that’s what you’re supposed to be. He’s a fantastic dad and a bumbling mess of a teacher and BOTH are well written. Endeavor is impacted TREMENDOUSLY. What just happened to him is the equivalent of Michael Jordan or Mahammid Ali retiring just as he felt like he could prove he could beat them….only to be in the face of them picture proving you weren’t CLOSE to catching up with deflated All-Might being a thing. And now he has fallen into the position of hey you’re good but you’ll never beat THEM. Even if there HAVE been better players, there’s no way to prove if they are truly superior to the more well known name. Which is NOT ideal position for Endeavor to be in. (That and they are ABSOLUTELY justified questioning such things) We have officially met the Bakugo family. And EVERYTHING about Bakugo’s inferiority complex is INSTANTLY explained. In the WORST way. His own MOTHER is not afraid to wack him for going out of line in front of his TEACHER’S, berating him and BLAMING HIS GETTING KIDNAPPED ON CAUSING ALL THE TROUBLE. This spells out the rest. She EXPECTS excellence from him and he tries to be the best through aggression to try and prevent what we saw in this scene. That’s terrible. And he’s trying not to be weak like his father who is the submissive type. The more he wins, the less he gets hurt. Yikes. (Not saying she doesn’t love Bakugo, but this was just a YIKES moment when you think about it.) That being said, it’s hard not to laugh at this scene as Aizawa and All-Might literally wager drinks about how bad this would be and BOTH lost with the Bakugo family. (All-Might can’t even drink even if he wanted to because he has no organs there.) And finally we got the Midoriya family. Deku’s self preservation…has taken ANOTHER step in the crapper. Inko’s concerns are warranted. She’s correct to be worried and to want him out of the place he keeps getting hurt at. BUT, the fact Deku DOES NOT GET MAD at her, and is WILLING to sacrifice all the friends he has made, the place safest for his progress, his DREAM of being the best of the best in the school he worked himself to the BONE to get into…all to please his mother to continue his efforts…is such a sad reality. This kid has NO thought in his head for himself other than being a hero. And All-Might IMMEDIATELY takes that moment to straight up tell his mother, that does it. I need to raise him. I need to be his father. He’s the next symbol of peace. I want to be his father figure. And he gets on his hands and knees in a position reserved in Japan for begging in the highest respect. A position you could go your entire life without seeing because of the respect it packs. And Inko collapses out of RELIEF. As a single mother who derailed her sons self worth on accident as a child trying for a decade to raise him on her own seeing her son’s IDOL begging for this. She knows he’s safe. And that’s why she accepts. And she even tells All-Might words he’s probably NEVER heard before. Don’t sacrifice yourself. Live. If not for yourself, live for him. This episode is a LOT. And it’s fantastic…but also tragic. What a great arc this has been.

Fun fact about the Mom for Bakugo: Apparently, she was SO aggressive with her Flirting towards the dad, that the dad eventually fell for her😂. Not sure how true it is, but it feels pretty accurate lmao

Bakugo's family dynamic is interesting. It almost feels like it shouldn't work. Two overly agressive, one extremely timid, physical, and brutally honest. But it's clear, especially with Bakugo's mom, that they are extremely aware of both his talent and his flaws, but love him anyway. And while Bakugo is always quick to anger, he respects his parents. It's not the gentlest approach, but it works for them.

Gonna say my initial stuff-- Mitsuki always bothers me with like the firs thing she says and no one notices because theyre reeling in amusement _and_ She doesn't have a problem with him using his quirk, she says tells him if he's gonna yell, _speak clearly_ 8:45 It felt less like the attention to me Like I didnt consider that 8:50 I think they're both right though 11:02 hehe _sodate_ Like...raising, rearing Either used for or the character has a radical for plants (so the subtitle comes out as _I will devote myself to raising you_ and I think people went crazy for it. And making comments like _Dadmight, where Mr. Midoriya anyway??_ At this time it was mentioned somewhere that he was working overseas 12:49 he has started to mention it on screen earlier this season I think AllM got a call and the reveal was interrupted 13:52 English removed it, but he said All Might is "Seriously like _Brian the Sun_ !!" who was an artist involved in... OP1 with the Sex band, or a different early thing 14:02 harsher mm 19:31 ah this; in JP she's not angry yet The end of the sentence is like the police said xyz [No response] Katsuki! But theres no "damn it, Katsuki! baseline anger" If anyone's worried about that 19:50 thank you thank you 20:06 yes thank you i like you guys sm 20:44 Izuku's shirt says "dress shirt". "A-A-All Miiight is in our houuuse" 28:44 I always feel so sad looking at Tomura/Tenko clutching all the hands in the corner like 🥺 29:11 "it's an otaku's room" hehe 34:08 funny bc she's super right? 👀

Deku saying 'don't do this' to All Might is probabaly saying about how he is literally bowing and putting all the blame on himself

In the japanese version it's more obvious that All Might promises to give his life for Deku, but Inko refuses and asks him to promise he will take care of himself and keep on living instead. I believe this is lost in the translation.

Endeavor’s view is more akin to a champion boxer rather than a hero. Unless you beat the previous champ and take his belt by force (see Ali vs. Liston) everyone will always unfavorably compare you to him (see Lennox Lewis vs. Klitschko) All Might didn’t “fail.” He retired undefeated. I think the only scenario that would have made Endeavor “happy” is if All Might fled/lost/died at the hands of All for One at full strength and he was the only one who could defeat him. It’s an oddly specific fantasy to have.

i feel like mitsuki's character is supposed to be a bit that was executed so badly that people took it way too seriously like i think everything about her character comes down to horikoshi being like " haha , get it ? a boy whose quirk is EXPLOSION has a mom whose personality is EXPLOSIVE, haha , the irony " but , again , the execution of this idea was done so bad that people believed its worth making disourses over whether or not she's abusive

@haydenberends3905 that's not unique to MHA, literally EVERY fandom has a group like that. You get people from the Souls fandom trying to analyze the lore of a rock and people from Star Wars trying to analyze the "deep significance" in a 2 second expression Luke makes from the OT. Granted, some fandoms are certainly worse about it than others

i mean, whit it working so wonderfully to explain how backugo developed his inferiority complex and agresive behavior as well at being shown in more than one ocasion like when Bakugo thinks hiting a kid until they adjust their bad behavior is normal as that is how he was raised in season 4, if you are into understanding the character it really hard to pass it as just a gag

I don’t think Bakugo bullied deku because of his relationship with his mom, even as a child, you could see that he was already getting praise for having an awesome quirk, and he just always felt like Izuku looked down on him. he found it infuriating that somebody who he considered weak, and beneath him would look down on him. because if someone who is worth nothing is looking down on you then what does that mean about your own worth? it means you’re beyond worthless 😂
@Hawk199031 Жыл бұрын
Deku is still trying to come to terms with watching the hero he put on a pedestal, get knocked off it and not return to said pedestal like All Might always had. Deku can't compute the #1 hero prostrating himself to a regular citizen even if it's his own mother in that moment.

8:45 hahaha, oof having a family member remind you of endeavour is... off, even for like the less problematic stuff, not like i know what that is like (/s) 19:56 well yeah but this was also said in close proximity to "everyone always fawned over him deserved or not" so that indicates me that she's trying to make him chill it with the gears, which maybe that is something he needed back in the day when he first got his quirk (which to me it's kind of an indication that this way of being might have not been there) but unbeknownst to her, his superiority complex morphed into inferiority complex when deku had the gall to try yo help him, at the end of the day tho it kinda doesn't matter if she was like this or if she was fiery but well adjusted, like she had the genetic personality matrix that made bakugo, but she didn't have the chance that bakugo's quirk provided to make her like him; bakugo being a bit of a small jerk with delusions of grandure could have then made her adapt into the only type of parenting that was in line with her personality matrix and could reign bakugo in at that stage. tho whatever her parenting style was it allowed bakugo to happen and it's not like bakugo was one of the first generations to have quirks so at that point cases like his were probably super documented and there are probably techniques and or parenting styles to avoid that from happening, but also a bit of a counterpoint SPOILERS FROM THE... NEXT SEASON? children are developing their quirks faster and faster so maybe you as a parent would think you're within schedule to pass down some good values and give the child time to understand and suddenly one day you have a post quirk awakening bakugo and you are screwed
@melo13melo Жыл бұрын
I think the "don't do this All Might" line has to do with what All Might's bow means. A low bow with your forehead touching the flow is usually only used to apologize or acknowledge someone of a higher status. The symbol of Peace prostrating himself like that is a big deal in Japanese culture. Deku is basically saying All Might doesn't need to lower himself/embarrass himself that way.
@ByteDWolf Жыл бұрын
What I hate about Inko’s, Izuku’s mom’s, refusal to let her son go back to UA is this: Izuku had no friends growing up because all the kids were attracted to Bakugo and they all bullied him with Bakugo. Once he got into UA, he soon had a whole classroom of friends. If he had left UA, he would’ve had to leave behind the only friends he ever made (including his future girlfriend, Ochako Uraraka).
@meadowhare1083Ай бұрын
Yeah, but you have to consider the fact that Midoriya has injured himself multiple times and almost died a few times too ever since he went to UA. Any good parent would be worried and hesitant to allow their child to go back to a school that's constantly getting attacked. In saying that, Inko didn't say that she wanted Izuku to stop being a hero, just to go to a different school which is fair if you ask me.
@merlinsmusings11 ай бұрын
When Deku says "don't do this," that's partially a cultural thing, partially a bad translation, and partially just because they needed to have him say something in English. In the original Japanese he just says, "All Might."

Just because Bakugo mother constantly screaming at him, saying he is weack and useless and hitting him is presented as a gag it dosn´t mean it didn´t happen, just because Mineta constant touching of woman whitout consent and atempts at spyng on them is presented as a gag it dosn´t mean he isn´t a disgusting pervert that barely anyone likes even on his own class. I would leave it alone if was a single time, but since the other time we see Bakugo at home he is being scream at and he even says himself that he was always hit when he missbihaved, along side that it being the most straight foward explanation as to were did Bakugo get the idea that being help means you are weack, i believe Bakugo mother is a bad mother. This dosn´t mean she didn´t love Bakugo or that she exploited him, it just means that she did a bad job at raising her child and dosn´t even realise it. And as someone who knows by experience how painfull is for someone as close as your parents to blame you for something you already feelt guilty even as a joke, how much words said by them during emotional moments can inprint in your head for decades and shape your world view way after they forgot they ever said it to you and how much a single hit can emotionally scar you i am extremly uset at her, even if Bakugo is clearly much less of a crybaby than me and handles it a bit better.

As an asian millenial I will disagree on the idea of being comfortable = mouthing out your parents (on Bakugo's upbringing). There's always ways to properly express things without disrespecting another person. I get it that Bakugo is comfortable at that since it is a common place. I'm saying that being comfortable disrespecting parents is a no no for me.
