And to think Gainax got involved with this particular Sega game WAY back in the early 90s before being further recognized in Japanese Anime like Neon Genesis Evangelion, FLCL, and Panty & Stocking. This game was definitely difficult for me to defeat back when I was a little kid. This should have been adpated into Anime form years back.

I admit, if you had a Genesis you were also happy. After 20 years I think I must admit it, I had a Snes back the days and thought he ruled alone, however Gen had some fun sidescrolling. We didn't have female heroes much as you did. I'm taking roms for my amusement now, better later than never.
@Bloodreign13 жыл бұрын
The SNES had it's fair share of female lead heroes in games, there's a lot of Japan only SFC games with female protagonists, the Genesis too had it's fair share, but not sure if it had that many to be honest. I can think of this game, Alis in the Phantasy Star series, Ms Pac-Man, and the two young ladies in the Battlemania/Trouble Shooter games off the top of my head. I personally collect for both 16 bit consoles, and this one is in it thankfully. But so are the Super Metroids, the Mario World games, the Sonic's, most of the Streets of Rage games (I have all 3 on a PS3 Genesis compilation disc), all 3 Final Fights, the first Trouble Shooter, the Zelda game, two of the last 3 Phantasy Star games (I do have them all on a couple Genesis collections). My 8 bit NES/FC collection is 336 games, my Genesis 181 games, my SNES sits at 193 games. And I am still trying to affordably fit more physical carts without going the flashcart route.
@milesr46093 жыл бұрын
@@Bloodreign1 Genesis had a lot of heroines, besides Mania, Maria (the girls in Battlemania/Trouble shooter), Alisia and Alis, it had Dahna (Dahna Megami tanjou), The Huntress (Blades of vengeance), Annet (El Viento), Yuko (the Valis games), Zaana (Arrow flash), ovbiously Blaze (SoR), Tyris (Golden Axe), Nei, Mieu and Rika (among others, Phantasy star MD trilogy), Sheena (Contra hard corps), Karen (Alien Storm), Leila (Rolling thunder 2), Hiromi (Burning force), the rider in Super Hang-On, Cotton & Silk (Panorama Cotton) and Shadow (Eternal Champions/X-perts). You could put Alissa Cyan but she wasn't playable haha. P.S: amazing 16bit collection you have there!!.

@@milesr4609 Thank you, yes, still trying to slowly build both consoles over 200 games each, or as many as I can afford that I like (the 8 and 16 bit era were key points in gaming for me, they were coming of age consoles for myself) for both consoles. Game Boy is another I collect for, it sits at 139 games mostly the old black and white games with a few GBC games, and a few GBA games mixed in for good measure.

I'm so conservative with my monsters in this game, that the only one I keep outside all the time is the Fireball for blocking projectiles, and also because it has to take a lot of consecutive hits before it starts losing health. :P
@BloodyBay5 жыл бұрын
Ball o' Fire was my favorite pet too. He didn't have any of the flashy projectiles or "zap everything on the screen" powers, but he was a great blocker _and_ your best defense against those little swarms of bats and such. Getting him up to Level 3 first (and making him bigger and more damaging to any baddies who ran into him) became one of my top priorities every game. And whipping him around by turning back-and-forth rapidly was a real room-clearer. :-) Oh...and that bulbous-headed sea monster who was the Stage 2 Boss? Just get in front of him, turn your back on him and crouch to stick Ball o' Fire in his mouth. It works like Voodoo! Just remember to turn back around and give Ball o' Fire a break once his charge gets low, so he doesn't start taking damage from that sea freak. Your pet can't do _all_ the hard work, right?

I've never played this game but everything about seems great except the enemy's are too fast and you don't seem to have any good options for dodging incoming attacks. Such as a dodge roll, dash, or even a shield.
@BloodyBay5 жыл бұрын
Actually, one of your pets (Ball o' Fire, the little fireball that follows Alisia around) _is_ a pretty good shield. With a quick about-face, you can do a pretty good job of whipping Ball o' Fire around to where he can block incoming attacks and smack any enemies who get too close. Incoming swarm of bats? Just turn your back to them, crouch and let Ball o' Fire handle the rest.

The Wikipedia page for this game has a paragraph about it being a breakthrough for women's representation in video games. If you know the history of the Genesis library (or video games in general), it's a weird comment that doesn't match the list of popular and classic Genesis titles, starring female characters as the playable lead, years before Alisia Dragoon was released. Release dates really aren't up for debate. A strange thing to write into a random Wikipedia article about a 30 year old video game
