This game was a memory I had when I was like 3 playing it with my cousins. I never got to play it after that and could never remember the name. It took years but I finally found it!

its like i wrote this comment. a bit older, but Louis Reinaldi was the first kid "on the block" with a Genesis and I remember going over to his house (judging by the year this was released i had to be like 8 or 9) and I remember being enthralled with this. I mean, This was a giant step up from Super Mario Brothers and Tetris which is what was always on in my house.... I have no idea how I finally found this. Especially since 3 and 4 *the famous ones* have no overhead functionality. Anyway, I must have searched for this game for literally years and years decades even, but man. What a disappointmentfor me. Its more enjoyable to watch than to play (of course I downloaded an emulator pretty much just for this... and mega man... and zelda... lol) anyway your comment seriously had me looking at the author coz for a second i thought I had left it!!

@@jaysharpESQ lol seriously that not remembering crap will drive me nuts 😅 and I always remembered the top down gameplay with these little eye looking ships and the noises (I was maybe 3 or 4. I'm 31 now 😮💨) After i got older I realized I could just look up by genre and when that didn't work i then watched a hour and a half long video of every sega game made and found this in the T section 🤣 I have it downloaded as well, but I enjoy the litte "pew" noises enough to play it over and over (I'm also a bit of a self challenger, as in I play games max difficulty and go for platinum on PSN. So I like those older tough to get into games too) but I tell you what I'll never forget the name again lmao

I grew on Thunder Force 4 and played it death fighting through all. Consider myself pretty seasoned on it! Always pretty comfortable via Thunder Force 3 and am a pretty good player at it (played it alot at now defunct mall in the day). However with Thunder Force 2, it's a different kettle of fish here. Can never really get my bearings around on it and I never feel that comfortable on it! That's a sign of a really good shoot em up (not going into no 1 either because I haven't played it) game here. Feel at home with T.F. 3 & 4 but no 2 will just kick my a$$ and I love it for that! So ahead of it's time with it's unique screen perspective as well so you don't ever get comfortable either and highly unpredictable as well. That soundtrack is sublime as well I might add. 33 years old this game is and it might be one of my favorites out of the lot as well...Much love for 1989 shoot em ups.

This game brings back good memories! The music in this game got me into electronic music. I used to go to the options and play the music while I drew. I never realized how long the top down levels took to beat. The weapons were off the chart!

My favorite shmup series ever. I remember playing this with my best friend on my 8th birthday (1997) after everyone else had left. The music and sound effects have stuck with me after all these years. I even hunted down the ROM and put it on my SNES mini.

Yes this game is tough, the X68K version however is even harder than this version. And when you lose your last life on that version, someone yells the word "shit" out.

The way it moves around on every crack and corner, more of a NPC playing it or Bot. makes more sense to actually see the pseron playing with a controller, it really does not show someone playing it LMAO

I can see why they stopped with the top down levels. Not that they were bad but it's quite maze-like and confusing at first (the others are more lenient).

Just to watch or to actually play? They are kind of annoying (as mentioned, you can get lost) but they are still pretty fun once you get the hang of it. It's very satisfying to track down the crazy, heavily-fortified bases and slowly pick them apart!
