I grab them by the shoulders to limit the thrashing with big treble hook baits.

I have had one for about 2-3yrs and fished it for the first time a couple weeks ago. They are easily to cast and work. It sure covers some water too. I just dread the first big fish on it because those meat hook treble hooks are sharp.
@BIGFISHSYNERGY2 жыл бұрын
That’s awesome! It really is an incredibly well constructed and thought out bait. I cannot stress enough how important it is to be careful with those trebles. They are extremely sharp and strong. After putting a 2/0 owner through my pointer finger I have some hook removal ptsd and these hooks scare the crap out of me. Haha. You can see it in the vid!

Enjoying the content brother, keep up the amazing work…I am new to swimbaiting recently ordered my first rod Low Down Customs 8’ XH looking to throw 2.5 -5 oz baits mostly 2.5-4 hard body treble hook lures wondering if I should do Calcutta 201 or 301 I do like a bit more stout rod so I’m assuming the XH will be just what I am looking for 🤘🏽

Thanks so much for the kind words, my friend! Did you pickup a Workshop LDC or a Custom LDC? They are different blanks. The Workshop is a slower taper and I think it has more of a parabolic nature. I fish the Customs which either come in a mod fast or parabolic taper (not too much of a difference imo). I can’t speak to the Workshop but I know that in the case of the Customs, the XH can easily handle a Deps 250 which is right around 6 oz. I’m assuming that the Workshop blank is not much different. The LDC stuff is built on proprietary Phenix blanks which are amazingly versatile. They are certainly stout but really bend nicely when hooked into a fish. (I also prefer a more stout rod). You will be pleasantly surprised. I would say that the sweet spot is probably around 3.5 - 5 Oz and I think the range of baits you want to cover is perfect for the XH. It’s always nice to fish a power up on some of the lighter baits in that spectrum. It gives you more control on a fight with a big. I would most definitely fish a 301 on an XH. The Calcutta is an amazing platform and is absolutely bulletproof. Once you get into baits over 3oz, I feel it’s better to have something over a 200 size reel. I fish a Calcutta 400 which is obviously a bruiser but it’s all about the line pickup for me. The larger spool allows you to really control these giant baits and keep a nice even taper on each crank of the reel. You can also grind in the fish faster and more effortlessly. Best of luck with the LDC, man. Ben is great people and is an amazing builder. You will love the stick.

@BIGFISHSYNERGY Жыл бұрын
Of course it’s a night and day difference!!! It’s also way easier to catch a striper on the Megadog. That’s pretty much what the bait was designed for. To each their own my friend!
