You know that feeling when you feel like you created totally new and it actually turns out that idea you had was from something you watched/knew when you were younger? The skit at the very end where we break a fake X3 Cart and then Matt tackles me is very Similar to the end of Episode 104 of the AVGN (I've been binging AVGN, shut up). Just wanted to say that this wasn't on purpose at all. I don't know if it was a coincidence, I might've subconsciously ripped it off. Just wanted to be transparent!

It’s a shame you didn’t like X3 tbh. I remember back when I reviewed X3 I was disappointed to have to talk about the sloppy structure of this game. Beyond that, I still love X3 to death (I’ve played it for over 300 hours as is). I saw the BSC playthroughs, and this was actually how I got into X. Funnily enough, I came out loving X3 and very strongly disagree with that playthrough. With X1-X5, X3 took me the longest to master, and that is why I have such a strong bond with it. It’s my fifth favorite X game behind X1, X4, X2, and MHX. Also where did you get your hands on that X3 repro...I might be in the market for one
@ThatTravGuy
@ThatTravGuy 6 жыл бұрын
Sadly it's not a working Reproduction, It was just an empty SNES Cart shell I bought off amazon for $5, an X3 Label I bought off a website called Retrogamecases.com, and a Reproduction Box I bought off Boxmygames.com. I bought a bunch of Reproduction Boxes (just boxes) for my GBA and SNES games, and then bought all this stuff just for this review 3 months later. Though I did get a working X1 reproduction off Etsy! To my knowledge it's impossible to get a working repro of X2 & X3 because of the Cx4 Chip.

just played this yesterday, pretty much exactly how i feel about this game, it's dull and repetitive at points, but has some great flow when you get into it, easily my most replayed mega man game, getting into it feels nightmarish due to high damage output and somewhat unforgiving design but on the other side it makes it so fun to schmoove past everything, and i like to avoid using special weapons to make the bosses an actual threat, though still not particularly good and one of the weaker parts of X3 ALSO ZERO PROJECT

Things i liked about x3. - The music - Armor upgrades - The graphics - The story - Bit, byte, and vile are way better implemented than the x hunters from x2 - The special weapons - The chip upgrades - The chip upgrade that allows you to heal yourself by standing still (includes sub tanks) - Blizzard buffalo's weapon allows you to farm without said chip upgrade - The fair difficulty that isn't x6 bullcrap - 2 Endings - You can get zero's z saber Things i dont like - The ride armors that are only used for upgrades and thats it - The same enemies over and over again - Zero's half inclusion - The bosses. Mega man x3 is my favorite x game but there are flaws that i cant overlook.

The music in X3 is amazing and miles better than X2. Of the 3 SNES games X2 easily had the worst instrumentation for its music. iirc X2 and X3 both botched the Stage Select music, making it annoying.

12:39 sooo theres a rom hack called the zero project for this game. They sort of did what you recommended. They made finding all of them mandatory and thus you get the gold armor from finding all 4. As well as playing the full game as zero an option.
@mengo329
@mengo329 3 жыл бұрын
I know this is far beyond the scope of the video and has nothing to do with an official version of X3, but there's this really cool romhack of X3 that fixes most of the problems you have with X3 and then some called Megaman X3: Zero Project. It even lets you play as Zero completely and even makes him able to use special weapons and get the black armor from the gold armor capsule, as well as letting you get the gold armor by picking up all of the chips at least once. It easily makes X3 a much better game. Anyway, this was a pretty good review, good work!

I think the pink capsules would've worked if they made it so that you could select which one you wanted at the beginning of the stage (something like the parts system in X5 and beyond); when you first find the pink capsule, you're given a choice to switch to the new one.

You are able to swap between pink capsule chips by jumping back into a pink capsule. The only downside was that if you activated any of the pink capsules you were locked out of the gold armor found in the doppler stages which basically gave you the boosts from all 4 pink capsules. Light specifically warns you that only 1 pink capsule upgrade could be equipped at a time.

I had x1-3 when I was a kid, and the replay-ablity of x3 mattered a lot. I'd go back and forth between x1 and x3. I liked x2, but when sitting down to play a game for an afternoon, it just couldn't compete. -- Also, the 1 chip thing didn't matter during the SNES era. We had to deal with inputting codes (so undoing things was easy), and with replaying the same game 100 times since we owned like 10 total games between NES and SNES.

A lot of how this game turned out makes sense when you know it was kinda the Dark Souls 2 of the series, in the sense it was made by a different team than the previous installments, and it shows. When I played the fancy version on the PS2 collection I liked it better than X2 at the time, but looking back, yeah, there's a feeling of dullness that the previous SNES entries didn't have, despite all the extra powerups and features.

My issue with X3 is it never makes you feel powerful. There's no section that you can just blast though with buster smashing popcorn enemies. You don't feel that badassery that comes to you from X1 or X2. It's still the X forumula, but... hollow?

I was alive and cognizant when MMX3 was new and lemme tell ya, it's okay to love it. It's flawed but if somebody told me unironically that it was anywhere near as bad as X6 or X7 I'd laugh at them to their face.

I personally agree. X3 has plenty of flaws that people love to criticize it for, but I cannot justify saying it's as bad as X6 or X7. X3 is probably my favorite of the original trilogy, and while it is a game that is fairly difficult to master, I still can't help but enjoy it
@Nicholas_Steel
@Nicholas_Steel 2 жыл бұрын
@@matthewkuscienko4616 I dunno about X6 as I haven't really played X4, X5 or X6 but X7 is basically a very early beta version with how unpolished and buggy it is (I played it on PS2). X8 mostly made up for the X7 disaster, my only issue with X8 is the 3D levels which all sucked ass and completely lacked awesome 2D platforming -_-" X8 also has probably the most replayability of all the games thanks to powerups carrying over between difficulties, being able to choose your starting difficulty, the starting difficulty determining the number of upgrades you begin with (and the amount available to find in levels) and difficulty affects how many phases of the final boss, and bosses in general, are available to experience.

You can get the ride-armor in Toxic Sea-Horse without using the underwater ride-armor. If you have the mega-buster upgrade and have frost-shield, you can charge up frost-shield and when underwater it turns into a gigantic ice cube, which then floats to the surface. Hop on that bad boy and ride it up to the top. Also, the SNES version of audio is absolutely rockin' with those guitar riffs, are you really saying that the Zero theme song is better on the PS2 version lol.

I feel you can really tell X3 was mainly outsourced. The same 2-3 enemies spammed every level, short and samey-sounding music, bosses that do almost nothing but move back and forth, levels have long stretches of nothing, etc.
@Sceppyo
@Sceppyo 3 жыл бұрын
You forgot to mention about how X3 brings back the whole system from X1 where if you kill 1 boss it'll have an effect on the stage of a different boss, which is necessary in order to find certain completion items. However based on the usually intended order of the game, makes it so that you are forced to backtrack (or at the very least more than X1) for things like ride armors or the heart tank in Gravity Beetle's stage.

Don't ever feel bad about using emulators. The way copyright works on media only benefits giant megacorporations who hang onto the rights for things long after they've stopped even trying to sell them, the original artists and developers who worked on it don't ever see any of that money (and when you buy used games, even the company sees none of that money).

In my opinion, I think the pink capsules could've been improved by removing the golden armor capsule and implementing a NG+ feature where the player can get a new pink capsule upgrade on each playthrough, making it still possible to get the golden armor, but only being a secret available to players who replayed the game. Granted, I don't think X3 is the most replayable game out there, however, if it were fixed up to be more replayable, then I think this new pink capsule system would work in its favor and be way more fair/meaningful. On that note, I feel like the pink capsule upgrades could be balanced a bit better so that player is about as excited to get each one, rather than getting one or two and not caring about the rest.

My least favorite thing about X3 is the buster upgrade. It's so slow, awkward to use, most enemies can block it and it does 2 damage to bosses! 2!!! That's the same as a normal charge shot. The X1 buster upgrade did 3 and X2 it did 5! When I play the game, I find my self wishing I could turn it of. Yes, there exists hacks that speed it up, but can't really reach full speed since the first shot need to wait for the other shot so they can combine. How I would fix it is by either give you a triple charge shot, so it can "rhyme" with the X2 and X4 buster, or you would get the X2 buster, but if you fully charge it for twice as long, they would automatically combine into an ultra shot that ignores shields and deals "nova strike" damage. Similar to the double gear shot in MM11.

Am I the only one who thinks this game sucks? It has so many good ideas but also so many terrible ones. This game has an obsession with beefy mini bosses, tedious enemies, really bad level design, a nerfed X-blaster that fires extremely slowly if you charge it all the way, an overly convoluted boss system that changes depending on what weapons you use, and that final boss... Good god. The final boss is fucking terrible with your nerfed X-blaster. Am I insane for hating this game? I've come close to liking it at some points, but overall, it just does everything it can to piss me off. Especially the unforgivable charge attack. The soundtrack is also fucking grating to my ears. I love a few tracks, but so many others just bring me dread, probably because I associate them with some of the worst time I've spent gaming.

I agree X3 didnt really do much for the story... EXCEPT for introducing the sigma virus... which is ykno... pretty important in X5 onward. I just wish that the legacy collection on switch would mash up the 2 versions of X3 to allow me to have the fun anime cut scenes but to also opt to have either the OG music or the remixed music. I am 'X-tremely' sentimental about stage themes like Blizzard Buffalo and Gravity Beetle which are IMO examples of some of the best music in the series and I was APPALLED by the remix of gravity beetle's theme... Gravity Beetle is forgettable AF and his stage is boring, so literally the only reason to play it is the music and they murdered it.

I really cannot agree that the PlayStation port is the definitive way to play X3. A few low resolution and haphazard placed anime cutscenes that are stylistically out of place with the pixel art, and if anything make experience worse, at least for me. Give me the SNES original any day. That said, both versions have a place in history and so both should be included on any legacy collections instead of only just one or the other.

My biggest problem with X3's soundtrack, the reason most of the songs are either inferior to X1 or just straight up forgettable is because of how flat and repetitive the compositions are. There are so many parts where the same note is played multiple times in a row. And then it'll do that again but slightly higher or lower pitched. X1's soundtrack was just so much more lively. And awesome. There was so much more switching between different pitches. If you want to see what I mean about one soundtrack being lively and memorable, and the other being flat and forgettable, just listen to Armored Armadillo and Tunnel Rhino, Sting Chameleon and Neon Tiger, and the boss themes of both games. And X3's music isn't just repetitive due to repeated notes, but it also sometimes repeats sections over and over again like Crush Crawfish and Gravity Beetle. Also, compositions tend to be simplified compared to X1 (Blast Hornet, anyone?). Those were much more complex. Compare Crush Crawfish to Launch Octopus. The X1 compositions just had so much more going on. "Stripped down" is a good way to describe X3's soundtrack. And when people say X3's instruments are grating, I get it.

I honestly love X3 more than X2. X3 is my 2nd favorite out of the X Series. I played X3 growing up and I replayed it so much. I didn't really play X2 till the X Collection on PS2. X2 was good but X3 was just better to me. The OST in X3 was better than X2 imo too.

16:43 That's because the Saturn version is the definitive version of MM8. Even fan efforts can't mimic that hardware hyper accurately yet, no company could do that successfully yet (much less 3 years ago when this video was made). The Sega Saturn is the most over-engineered console of its era, and almost none of its architecture carried forward to anything. In short: providing the definitive version of MM8 would require emulating every chip in the Sega Saturn in software, accurately enough so they can all work together as they should, not to mention everything else it would depend on. That's a full 8 processors, several of them proprietary Sega made chips.

You should try the Zero Project hack. It is the definitive version of the game.

I've heard about the Zero hack! I might stream it over in on my twitch, or if I ever do a video where I have to talk about X3 again I'll look at it.

The first time I played MMX3 I asked myself how come the next 5 games (except X4) could be even worse than this. Now that I've played X6, I'll rather play X3 at ANY time.

Honestly, I still consider X3 to be the definitive SNES title, and even the best on PS1. The only thing that puts me off from it is how Zero is handled. You're only allowed to call on him once per level, and the moment you reach a boss gate the game slaps you on the wrist for feeling too cool and makes you play as X for the rest of it. And often times the boss gate won't even have a boss behind it, it'll just be there to stop you from playing as Zero too much, whose gameplay isn't even all that enticing as soon as you get the leg upgrade.

Lol wow for me it was the opposite. The ps1 version of X3 on the ps2 X collection was the reason I didnt pick it up lol. The music, while stand alone didnt sound bad or anything, but it was horrid for a megaman X game, very unfitting. A lot of it sounded like gameshow music and completely neglected the hardcore metal theme of the snes X games, with X3 being the most metal.

Wait, what's wrong with the PC port of Megaman X8 in the Legacy Collection? Did they somehow fuck it up??? The original PC port played perfectly fine albeit without the glitch to easily max out your currency.

And here i was thinking the armor piece in X was already confusing... I never went for 100% in those game... *First they are somewhat too hard for me so come back to a level again seem like a strange move. Second before Internet i barely have a knowledge that "something" was hidden somewhere and even in the NES Megaman i couldn't understand how to get most of the hidden stuff ! Capcom make them a ltitle too hard for my taste. Maybe i lose something in the process... But in this case, it seems like it made the X3 Experience way better !
