Same. I agree with Mike that it’s not all that complicated of a song or anything, but it’s fun. I also highly disagree with him thinking that it’s only a bunch of white girls that care about it. It’s basically a karaoke classic/sporting anthem around the world. Even a way to celebrate a funeral. RIP Ger Foley I know he claims to be a music snob, but this is sorta why I rarely watch his vids anymore. Being a snob about a song or genre of music is fine, but then he makes some wild, untrue claim so he feels justified in not liking it. It’s just incredibly off putting. Just say you don’t like the song. Don’t make shit up

@@DumbTacoBeast It's just the way he's a snob that rubs me the wrong way. There are plenty of metalhead music snobs that I follow and have no problem with. @@Chooopy I disagree with many of his takes, but that said a lot of what Mike does, is either trying to add entertainment to the video, or exaggerating his opinion to exemplify his subjective view. I listened to the track for the first time too; I recognized a couple of parts. I'd heard the name Mr. Brightside thrown around but never heard music to go along with it, so I confused it with Mr. Sandman and another song I can't find. Mr. Brightside is okay. It's cohesive for sure, but it feels like it doesn't go anywhere, and I agree that it doesn't have that payoff or really memorable part. It sounds like one long verse. I probably won't come back to it, but now I know what song people are referring to. As for Dirk, his performance was killer (dammit, I walked into that one too). He did that in one take?! It sounds so clean, tasteful, and on the beat.

Dirk's absolutely right. At a professional level time is limited. I've played shows where the rehearsal is the same length as the show if not shorter. It made my sight reading very accurate as a result. A lot of it was against click track which meant you didn't really have the opportunity to go over parts again. Meanwhile, there was an expectation when playing big band sets to play it correctly at first sight. It took me a while to get used to it, but it's achievable.

What I like about the parts that don't feel as satisfying, is that this is his first time playing the song after hearing it with no practice. Agreed. I'm not sure I understand his point especially when he says it doesn't have a multiple 'pay off' like some over the top American 80s song and it instead has 'I'm afraid to be in public British frail boy moments'. The song has the themes of jealousy and paranoia which is something every human experiences, yet it can make you feel happy, sad, and everything in between....there's simply this great juxtaposition on the jealousy/paranoia themes and the upbeat music combines with catchy nursery rhyme lyrics. The song is both predictable and unpredictable adding tension as the chorus and ending doesn't end on the same key as the as the start. TLDR - The music is happy catchy pop with darker lyrical themes that expertly taps into feelings jealousy and paranoia that every human being experiences (unless you're some alpha redpiller who has no emotions and just bangs 10s all day long hitting nothing but net their entire life).

It's funny that The Killers are from Las Vegas but yet do sound so British with their music. I definitely do understand where Mike is coming from with the song, its hook is that it's simple to follow instrumentally for a listener and has a mix of youthful promiscuity and misunderstood emotional lad culture into it lyrically. In my eyes, it's almost a precursor song to the pandemic in music which is THOT culture music for girls to get in the mood to be seduced.

Back in the late 80's I was a big Megadeth fan, but I could not tell you who was the drummer, so now I have now for the first time introduced to Dirk. I quit listening to the radio back in the mid 90's when I shifted from Death Metal to Symphonic Black Metal and Progressive Death Metal. Now that I am creating my own music (not yet finished let alone released), I rarely listen to even my favorites such as Carach Angren, Dimmu Borgir, Epica, Septicflesh, Haggard, Igorrr, Oxxo Xoox, Voivod, Omnium Gatherum, Amorphis, Obscura, etc. etc. I was expecting more double bass drums and was almost let down, but Dirk delivered despite losing track of how he wanted to end the song. I have reworked classic pop/rock songs with metal guitars and double bass drums (midi programing) without any metal influences into symphonic death and black metal with touches of ambient electronic music. Almost any genre devoid of metal can be converted into metal. But Dirk's drums did not make Mr. Brightside sound like metal, not even the sparse double bass drums. To do that, the final third or fourth of the song needed an entire buildup to not only double bass drums but double time on drum rolls and more cymbals and even a few short blast beats bursts.

As a function drummer in the UK, I can wholeheartedly attest to this being a mixed gendered song. We can't NOT play it, there's always one in the crowd (usually male) who drunkenly calling for this song

One important thing that isn't clear in this video (at least to me) - unlike the drumeo "Enter Sandman" video, in this one Dirk only listened to a drumless version of the song. I think he knocked it outta the park. The intro on the original is very nice but overall I like this version better :)

I'm sorry, this version works. One time listen and play. Do people think the original was done once? Get a grip on reality. What the other video. That is his tour kit. For a song he does not find memorable there seems to be a strong opinion that suggests otherwise. Plus musicians don't want to hear what they have already done. The whole point is to put a twist on it.

I love that series. I've only seen 2 videos so far. Watched this one first and a video by a lady named Domino Santantonio interprets a Slipknot song without hearing it and she did a pretty good job, especially about halfway to the end. She says he did it better, but I liked the final 2 or 3 minutes of her version more TBH. lol

As a huge Megadeth fan, I can honestly say I have never heard Mr. Brightside either haha.. Never listened to the Killers since I heard they were Emo which I really don't dig, but Dirk looked like he did a good job and maybe improved on it.

You are cracking me up. It's supposed to be an anxious circle of unresolved anxiety and pain.. A lot of people love it because they've been there. They've walked in a room, saw their partner kissing, touching or all over someone and immediately felt that gut punch. That punch that resonates thru you, unresolved, screaming, ripping, tearing, stabbing thru to your soul.. the ONLY resolution in this song is that there is none. He just walks away with a sarcastic "I'll get over it, im Mr bright side" . Should be alternative capital and small letters. There's no resolution, just that I will walk away with this pain in me. It will never go away, just change and grow with my broken heart. It will be a piece of me forever. There. Thats why you're wrong 😂😂😂😂jk man I enjoyed your video. He for sure made nice choices.

As a drummer with a college education who can easily write scratch charts like he did, he comically overplayed. Like, some of those fills sounded like drums being pushed down the stairs. He’s a great drummer, but why would you play busy fills the first time recording a song? Less is more.

Anyone else ever notice how the chorus to Mr. Brightside is identical to the chorus to Special K by Placebo (way better song in my opinion that was released years prior)?
