Sacred Reich were touring last year in November and we were talking the last time we saw them and we realized it was 30 years ago. We just could stopped laughing how fast time passes. Then we thought if we said that back in '89. 30 years ago (1959) there was barely rock&roll. wow

The genre is called Trash Metal. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax are considered the Big Four of Trash Metal, all from Bay area. They were equally inspired by NWOBHM, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, especially the twin guitar harmony combined with the heavy riffs, bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and the aggression of a band like Motörhead, and coupled that with the attitude of punk rock. One particular song of a one particular NWOBHM band, Diamond Head's "Am I Evil", is like proto Trash, with its changes of tempo, it's melodic intro with arpeggios, hard driving riff, guitar solos, and was a huge influence on young James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, who formed Metallica, and talented but, back then, highly volatile, David Mustaine, Metallica's original lead guitarist, who got kicked out before their first studio album (he still has a few song credits), but went on to form Megadeth. There have been some public feuds between the bands, especially Megadeth and Metallica, because of their history, but it's, mostly, behind them now. Metallica has made a cover version of "Am I Evil" and on the Sonisphere / Big 4 tour, all four bands went on stage to play the song together. Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax have all distanced themselves from Trash Metal into a more mainstream sound, but have since gone back closer to their early style, while Slayer has pretty much stayed consistent, not deviating from their heavy and aggressive sound or dark lyrical content. If you want to split hairs, the first Anthrax recording was closer to traditional metal, before they found their style, but the first album is often excluded from their discography. This is similar to the Texas band Pantera, the original Groove Metal band, whose early albums were straight up Hair Metal, and often get overlooked, but they changed to a heavier, less radio friendly style, after vocalist Phil Anselmo joined, inspired by the heaviness of Trash Metal, but played with a much slower tempo. As for Death Metal, it does have parallels with Trash, as some of the early bands were influenced by Trash, especially bands like Slayer, but went on to do their own thing, with an even heavier sound, even higher tempo, usually with down tuned guitars, screaching or growling vocals, the double bass drum and other things that define it as its own genre. There are still some similarities here and there, and for some bands, the distinction is not so clear cut. Plus Death Metal has also been coupled with more melodic influences, even with almost pop music choruses, but with growling in between, resulting in even more sub genres.

This video strikes me as a girlfriend interview test OR a 'this is me and what I like ' warning video. Did that make sense? Clearly an epic song that one of you has heard before and the other has not. (I sure hope I got that right) BOTH reactions seem 100% legit and brought a smile to my face.

The first part of this song is based on Dave’s issue with the Irish Republican Army back in the day, hence Holy Wars... The second part is based on the comic book anti-hero The Punisher, hence ...the Punishment Due!

Relentless attack.. G.O.A.T. of all Thrash Metal songs.. could arguably be the greatest metal song of all time.. how many bands have you heard cover this song? None that come anywhere near the precision of the original.. they are all either sloppy and out of time or slowed way way down... there is a reason for that.. anyway I think Dave achieved showing the world and his former band that Megadeth's musicianship and prowess at that time could not be touched by any other band in the world.. Not only were they second to none in their song and lyric writing ability but this record showcased for all that Megadeth and Dave Mustaine were far superior to anyone in metal at that time..

You should listen to "Set the world afire" .It's the first song Dave wrote after he saw kicked out of Metallica even though it didn't get released until their third album "so far so good so what". It sounds more like Metallica than Metallica and could have fit in on Metallicas "kill em All" easy. Which is not surprising since Dave was a massive influence on their early sound.
