Dave said in his book, that he would track a left and right, to keep a tight and same tone level of heavy, and add (in this case, Marty) down the middle to create a sort of "layering". He started that with jeff young, since his tone gave a sort of spark that was needed in the Rhythm portion of the songs.

It's a complete mystery to me why anyone would ever pick Metallica over Megadeth. Light years ahead in musicianship. Metallica is merely adequate while Megadeth excels.
@chriscoughs57744 жыл бұрын
Well I love both bands but I prefer Metallica. I don't know why I do. It just resonates with me a little more than Megadeth as much as I love Megadeth.

Metallica has a more mainstream sound (slow, clean, kinda chill by metal standards) which most people can easily listen to while Megadeth's fast, sort of "dirty" sound makes it hard for some listeners to really enjoy, but yeah, in terms of technical ability and musicianship, Megadeth beats Metallica, though I equally like them both.

Metallica is the better band and always will be, I love megadeth just as much, but Metallica did more to the metal genre then megadeth ever would and hoped for. Megadeth maybe be a technicality superior band but that does not mean SHIT. it’s like saying iron maiden is better then pink floyd because they are faster. Metallica is the heavier band anyway that’s what I look for in my music. it’s actually funny that you can’t even appreciate another band as godly as Metallica because your so one minded, BAHA anyway have fun listening to your two good albums 🤣 . Wrong asshole. James doesnt record just 2 rythm guitars and this is not even close to tight as James riffing on puppets and albums after that. This is not tight at all. The rythm guitar here is a bit sloppy.
@sainandanramakrishnan48126 жыл бұрын
@@Penisdoll You're crazy if you think James' riffing on Puppets is tighter or cleaner than this one. There is no Hetfield song that contains rhythm parts LIKE this one ( Scaled riffs, fast muted chord progressions, tritone chords, lots of key centre transitions ), so its obvious it would SOUND different in isolation compared to MoP's guitar tracks. The playing itself is hardly sloppy. Also, "Just two" ?? RIP has *6* guitar layers recorded ( 2 Dave on the sides, 1 Marty in the centre, repeated twice ) making its sound a lot rougher around the edges and overall denser, ideal for a very guitar harmony oriented album. MoP's guitar *tone* ( not the rhythmic mix, but just the tone setting ) itself sounds very generic, hardly unique or identifiable. Always loved the extra punch and bite that an elegant Rust In Peace power chord packs.
@Penisdoll6 жыл бұрын
@@sainandanramakrishnan4812 Use your ears. This is not tighter than Puppets guitar track. Puppets rythm guitar track is pretty much flawless but this is not! I can personally record a tighter guitar track than this cause I can hear many places where it is not perfect. These rythm guitars sounds like they are recorded by two guys and it is impossible for two guys to record a tighter rythm track than one guy dong it by himself.. "MoP's guitar tone ( not the rhythmic mix, but just the tone setting ) itself sounds very generic, hardly unique or identifiable.". Okey. "Very generic, hardly unique or identifiable". Then you should be able to give me a couple of links to a lot of different albums pre 86 that Metallica copied their Puppets sound from. If you think that RIP has a better tone than Puppets I hope you are not a studio producer. RIP rythm tone sounds as bad as a Amp simulator sounds.
@Penisdoll6 жыл бұрын
This is VERY Fizzy sounding guitars. I dont know who mixed it. But he did a bad job.
@sainandanramakrishnan48126 жыл бұрын
@@Penisdoll When you have 6 guitars playing, there are obviously going to be a few off-sync sounds ( also coming from the fact that both Mustaine and Marty harmonize rhythms within each set of 3 guitars, unlike Metallica where James only plays one master track and its just overdubbed with Kirk only playing rhythm live ). As I said, the playing itself is far from sloppy or else every single time you hear the riffs it would sound differently nuanced. What I really care about is the tone of a single player's guitar when isolated from the mix and the kind of stuff that is played, for both of which I would prefer RIP and Ride The Lightning over MoP. MoP's guitar tone is an uninteresting mixture of Anthrax - Spreading The Disease and a very NWOBHM Maiden / Sabbath crunch. Unlike Ride The Lightning's tone which just screams thrash, or Rust In Peace's extremely unique, condensed tone ideal for some nasty speed metal riffs, MoP never really stood out for me. Just go and play sliding rhythms with RTL tone and fast power chords and arpeggiated rhythms with RIP and tell me they just aren't the perfect sounds for that, the only thing the MoP tone accentuates is down-picking.

Those tracks were recorded back when humans actually HAD to play the whole song. That's why it's not completely synchronized. I praise that kind of work over today's standards any day. The way things are done in the modern process should be called "sloppy" instead, because everything is done through copy & paste. Musicians are lazy now.
