Touhou 12.8: Great Fairy Wars - Extra Stage (No Commentary)

For those of you who may have thought this game was too easy... welcome to the Extra Stage. You absolutely have to have mastered everything about freezing thus far to even have a chance to best this stage. Enemy patterns may be simple, but with that they give you A LOT of stuff to focus on at once, so more than any other Touhou game you need to quickly change your attention from one thing to another, to another in quick succession.
The mid bosses aren't too bad once you’ve learned how they work. For the most part they attack like they did before. So an aggressive strategy takes them out really quick.
Marisa is crazy to fight against but she's incredibly... learn-able. Her attacks tend to be very direct, so as long as you learn the best way to fight her she becomes easier. It also helps that her insane barrages of bullets can work in your favor cause it makes it easier to cover a lot of the field in ice so you can replenish your lives.

Well, although I think it's quite plausible that ZUN was already planning that, I also believe that in this context, Marisa just meant the next flower viewing party. And well, in "Wild and Horned Hermit" chap 45 they do invite her to a very small party with only 12 participants. In the following day, they made another party with the same guests, but aside from the mandatory ones, only Cirno showed up because the others couldn't tank Tenshi's "Heavenly Banquet". Although I only detailed this one, Cirno does come to several other flower viewing parties at the Hakurei Shrine, and Marisa is always interacting with fairies whenever she can.

Pretty sure the motivation thing is that in touhou, fairies are immortal, so unlike the humans who have to give up when they get hurt too badly, Cirno only gives up when she doesn’t care anymore

I love how this fight shows how strong Marisa really is especially in comparison to someone like crino when you're playing as Marisa against crino it's ridiculously easy but when you're playing as crino against Marisa it's the hardest fight in the game.

I really like this game........even though I haven't been able to beat it even on normal mode, hell I have only been able to beat it on easy with continues. In my opinion one of the hardest ones in the series. But I love the idea of playing as Cirno so much I don't really mind. They did a really good job with her character too.

@@izzymosley1970 Look, people skip the dialogue in touhou because they’re only recording their replay of the clear of the stage. When I was trying to beat Mokou, I probably attempted the extra stage over 15 times before I got my clear, and after that first attempt, I sure as hell wasn’t gonna read the dialogue every time. The replays also show exactly what you did, so if you skipped the dialogue while playing, the dialogue will skip in the replay. Also, if you want to play the game yourself, all Touhou games are free at the Moriya Shrine website. Touhou is literally public domain for some reason.

Who says this game is easy? I barely even cleared one path in Easy mode without continues. Definitely not a game for beginners. +korohacker I could do without... I much prefer shooting lasers to getting shot by lasers. And it's weird, the game isn't easy per say, but it gets easier as you play it. It was really hard when I started, but after beating Route A1 and A2 the game pretty much unfolded from there. Once I knew what I was getting into and how to contend with it everything got much simpler.

It seems to be a thing in the spin off bullet hells (and also LoLK). Basically, in those games you are constantly facing some of the most rediculous patterns in the series, but you are given a tool to deal with them. Cirno has perfect freeze, Seija gets her weird tools, LoLK gives you Eiren’s funky drug (pointdevice), and Aya only gets sent back to the start of the pattern.

Go for TD normal no bomb no trance or TD hard. Trust me. You'll just blitz TD normal with no problem if you do your 'play normally, occasionally bomb' mentality.

It's essentially your life bar, cause Cirno will only keep going so long as she's motivated to do so. Freezing things increases her motivation while getting hit drops it by 100 and if you reach zero it's game over.
