Touhou 15.5: Antinomy of Common Flowers - Futo/Ichirin Story

Futo's a fast character through and through, however her attacks aren't terribly powerful, rather she relies mainly on setting up tricky non-directional attacks with her plates. When using her projectiles or choice melee attacks she'll leave a large plate on the field, then when using her special moves they interact with said plates in different ways such as bouncing a fireball or arrows across them or teleporting to them. On top of that doing so breaks said plate, but in doing so it powers up Futo in the process.
Ichirin however is a very direct heavy hitter. She's slow and her attacks have lag behind them, but her punches from Unzan pack one hell of a wallop. It may be more difficult to hit with her but those fists have amazing range and they deal some serious damage. Ichirin's specials also call out Unzan's fists in various ways, however keep in mind after each move there'll be a pink mist around Ichirin for a few seconds. During that time Unzan's on cool down and you won't be able to use him at all.

According to PS4 ULIL, "those involved with the Urban Legend Incident are the ones most affected." They don't seem to explain WHY this is the case, but it satisfies as an explanation for why we only see a select few characters in this incident (because, you know, it's not like they would make movesets for EVERY character). Though it theoretically can happen to bystanders, it seems like it's much harder to pull off and serves no purpose. EDIT: Perhaps the reason it's tied to the Urban Legend Incident is because possession itself can be considered an urban legend? Either way, only the main characters wielding urban legends are affected.

When the possession is compulsory, the slave can end it at will, so in that scenario, you could just tell your neighbor to get out

[20:27] *Well hi, everyone!* (I'm really appreciative of KZbinrs who acknowledge the fans) Anyways, Futo's idea (since I guess you didn't fully grasp it) was that the other teams lost to the Yorigamis because they were too "set" in their roles of master and slave. By alternating the roles of master and slave in their team, Futo and Ichirin would be a far more flexible combination that (theoretically) could figure out some quick/adaptive solution to "Absolute Loser."

That was the idea, but she didn't come to that conclusion until after beating so many people. Keep in mind as Ichirin said before they set out they got in a huge fight before setting off over who should be the master and servant. She most likely got the idea that they could beat the Yorigami's cause she and Ichirin ended up working so fluently swapping between the role of master and slave. But again, she didn't come to that conclusion until after they starting winning a lot while doing so.

I really like that Doremy already makes mention of her plot with Sumireko. Her smug grin is good too~ A shame that Ichirin and Futo don't have a controlable fight against the Yorigami sisters, I don't remember if the ending states which one of them was the possessed. Also, I don't know if you are aware but Ichirin's forward attack usually breaks guards and can be used when swapping mid-combo. Similarly, her attack where she grabs the enemy and slams them gives you about 1s to chain her down fist (I think it's the down C). Similar combos exist for other characters with different button combinations. Next week is smug queen and the useless little bunny only good for her sex appeal™ and I hope you use Doremy a lot :3

So... Stop me if I'm wrong... Every time someone enters Perfect Possession, whoever is not in control enters the Dream World by taking her Dream Self's place while still being somewhat connected to the waking world. But Dream Selves don't necessarily return to the Dream World once their Main Selves leave the Dream World, causing them to run rampant across Gensokyo. Is that correct?

Pretty much. At first it was an inconsequential difference because at first, there's really no difference between the character and their dream self (initially a dream sweller wouldn't even _realize_ they were a dream dweller in Gensokyo and just think they're the original). But as they keep doing these perfect possession battles over and over again, this allows the dream residents to realize what's going on so they can get away and stay in Gensokyo.

Keep in mind, ZUN's said that Stage placement doesn't always reflect a characters power. Just take SA for instance where Yuugi is no doubt the strongest character of that cast, but is the Stage 3 boss. Doremy's in a similar case. I wouldn't say she's "one of the four oni's of the mountain" strong, but we are talking about fighting the Ruler of Dreams in the Dreamworld after all. Similarly, yeah she had no need to go all out in LoLK. Really, judging by her dialogue she seemed to have just been testing the protagonist to see if she thinks they could even stand up to the threat ahead.

It's something I've been annoyed about since Touhou 14.5. It's fine if you want to use new themes unique to the fighter for the main game, but not at the expense of the characters main themes. I really wish one day they went back to the way SWR did it in that some battle themes are songs unique to SWR and some battle themes are the characters themes
