Seihou 1: Shuusou Gyoku - Extra Stage (No Commentary)

God this Extra Stage is a royal pain in the butt... Like this game has had before, the stage itself isn't too awful long but it does come at you hard and fast. However it is nice in that the hardest part of the stage is pretty early on and before the mid boss, so if you die there, there isn't really much harm in quickly resetting.
The mid-boss is more showy than actually being a threat. Oh yeah it'll kick your ass A LOT before you figure it out (I was almost ready to give up on this stage because of that bastard alone). But as soon as you learn how to beat it, it becomes second nature.
Marisa is... very luck based. She has a multitude of attacks and they all have varying ranges of difficulty depending on whether one to six of her spells are active when she fires them off. Learn the tricks behind all of the attacks and, while I hate to say this, be ready to bomb at a moments notice. Marisa is NOT above throwing you an undodgeable wall of bullets in a heartbeat.
And Reimu can go fuck herself... (☄ع◣д◢)☄
Anyone who knows Seihou knows what I mean there... But if you don't, Reimu's only real threat is her second phase everything else is just incredibly difficult but nothing too much to worry about. I will say this much though, I did actually figure out how to beat it without bombing (which is saying something considering NO ONE has perfect cleared this stage) but it is pretty much a requirement to come into this fight with full lives.

Fun fact: This is actually the debut of Windows Reimu! Thisa game released in 2000; after Mystic Square; but before EosD. In fact; it came out TWO YEARS before EosD; so Reimu's redesign was planned for quite a while by ZUN.

I've just noticed how many things about this extra stage are similar to lls: the stage looks similar to lls's stage 1, the two bosses are Reimu and Marisa (like in lls stage 4), both extra stages have one boss, then another (which with lolk are the only ones in the entire series to have two extra bosses), Yuuka sparks, Marisa clones herself like Yuuka does in lls and both have very hard extra stage bosses

This extra stage is fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun. Ancients, on a different note, is my favorite Reimu theme. And probably my favorite out of ZUN's music (which is saying a lot) Also, yeah, why can't you deathbomb in this game? That has caused quite a few deaths for myself as well...

WishMakers This, the best of ZUN's whole music? You can have your opinion as I have mine. The song is nice, as is the stage and Marisa's theme. I'd have to say that the PC 98 music is better in general (when in a time-considering tournament). The richness of ZUN's modern synth is uncomparable to the old one that he had back in that era (PC 98 and Seihou - by EoSD it had been changed).

+Ori Agreed, Koishi Heck is actually pretty decent and more manageable than the first two Koishi Hells. Yup, it's been implied that she doesn't NEED the broom to fly, rather it's there to help her fly faster. At the very least she has straight up said she has a broom cause that's a thing that witches have. Now I'm not 100% sure but I think in the Grimoire of Marisa she actually does reference that she can make wings out of magic, but she prefers flying with her broom. But don't quote me on that, I may not remember correctly and there were A LOT of references in that book.

Back when I first played this I still was unsure of what exactly cased the whole "game progressively gets harder" aspect of it I mentioned and shown a direct example of in Stage 4 (hell, I still don't think there's any documentation on it). I really don't know if it was time spent surviving, amount of grazes you have, or how many of those star points you pick up. I didn't want to risk it then if it _was_ tied to those star points considering how good I was doing at that point (I'd never made it that far in the fight with 3 lives before). So I didn't want to risk the boss fight suddenly getting _WAY_ harder if I picked up that huge cluster of star points

You do have to work your butt off to make it run I'll admit. Switching your computer to Japanese locale or using Applocale is a big one, experimenting with various downloads on it, and straight up having the right OS is another factor. I used this download, but I also had to make sure I unzipped it in Apploacale so as to make sure all the inner files stayed in Japanese, or I had the same problems you said. www.mediafire.com/file/w22vztixqyo23im/SEIHOUSHUUSOUGYOKU.zip And even then I had a few times when the music wouldn't load. Even in my main run the Stage 5 boss music didn't load, so I had to add that in, in post. And even then this game is still finicky on a case by case basis. The Yin-Yang Orbs' Hitboxes on Phase 6 are garbage. The green waves on Phase 4 are trash. The purple Yin-Yang Orbs leave you no room on Phase 3. Deathbombing is forbidden. How frustrating to "deathbomb" when you have actually lost a Life. Fuck PC-98 and Seihou for that. And fuck this EX Stage for being too fast for a Perfect.
