I'd love a video on your travel prep! also the archive binders, however wonky, are so so neat. always making me want to print things out and keep them in my pocket. the covers turned out so nicely, I adore the bog book. I think I'd end up making binders on nostalgia, memory, liminality, hauntings - not necessarily separate, but I think I gravitate to those a lot especially thanks to this community.. the ocean, especially the depths, maybe something relating to language. possibly a whole video game related binder.

When I was a kid, I had notebooks on the old ghost towns in the mountains of the American West, because I wanted to find one with a small population where I could move when I was grown up, so obviously now I live in NYC. In adulthood, I started one on astronomy and physics of light trying to understand how supernatural experiences could work, and then I took it so far that now I'm back in school for a Math & Physics degree as someone with an art background. It was great hearing about your bog interest! So lovely!

Pardon my intrusion, I'm just always happy when people are interested in both arts and sciences. I studied history and sociology in uni and then I went back to school much later to become a medical lab tech. So many of my classmates could not comprehend how I loved both. 😂 I definitely don't get along with numbers but I've always loved biology. Getting to draw out microscopic samples with all my coloured pencils was like the joy of my life. Thanks for sharing your interests. 😊

I've realized what I appreciate about your videos is that they make me feel less guilty for prioritizing the system that makes me feel good at any given time, even if it means jumping around or leaving something behind. I'm not autistic but I have adhd and really severe anxiety and depression, and having a system that just feels "right" is so comforting, so I just want to be able to enjoy that small win when I can get it, you know? Also in terms of special interests, my current biggest ones are cryptozoology and macabre Victorian traditions. I spent several hours taking notes on articles about Victorian mourning traditions the other day and had such a fun time with it.

if i were to make a special interest binder it would be about pen hacking and ink colors. i like hacking different refills into different pens. i also like comparing inks, say all the blue ballpoint inks or black gel inks. there's all kind of subtle variations within type when you start comparing them. i have a lot of disparate documentation but i really need to pull it together. another special interest would be hiking trails and outdoor skills.

Perhaps create a scavenger hunt list for your Bog trip? We used to go to a place called Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. They had print outs like a fun map that included pictures of all the different species you might see there. It's probably supposed to be a kids activity, but all the adults got into it. :) Also, this video--- So many quotable moments in this one: "Sometimes you just need to be knee deep in grass."!!! "Artists desks are like cats they fill the shape of the space they're in." "Equal parts support and freedom." "Imagine a Bog Vlog." Have a great time traveling Megan. I hope there is a Bog Vlog! :)

i think my special interest binders would probably be on woodcraft (and my associated interests like historical archery, fiction book series around the concept, etc.), minecraft (probably pulling together my thoughts on lore/headcannon and bits from my favourite minecraft youtuber ethoslab), and maybe something on cowboys and other livestock workers in a historical context. there are so many things i'd love to collect info on but those are the ones i can think of that might fill a little book someday. your bog bits are making me want to research the wetlands from my hometown !! i doubt i'd find anything online about it (very small town) but maybe next time i visit i will have to do some investigating because i adore learning about plants and soil and insects and such 🕵

Regarding Bogs, if you are ever in or near York there's Askham Bog, David Attenborough recently got involved with it to help protect it as it one of the few Ancient Natural Bogs left in the country. And is home to rare species of water beetle and beautiful emperor dragonflies.

Answering your question, I have sooooo many binders, more A4 size because they need to hold a lot of informations but i got (at least the one I’m currently working on) : 3 astrology, hellenism, herbalism, media critic (like books/movies), 2 psychology, folklore, egyptology and my experimentations on trying routines/systems. I think a lot of people would categorize many of them as study material like many people have, but I haven’t heard of many adults immersing in their self-initiated studies this many hours per day or making their own personnalised cardstock dividers for horizontal and vertical classification. I also got a filofax binder as a journal/calendar for daily pages and elucubrating on whatever crosses my mind :) Thank you for your videos, any kind you make always hits home

Lovely video :) As an astrophysics student (about to graduate & enter grad school!), my research has slowly taken over my hobonichi cousin and I'm probably gonna need to get a second book just for that lmao. I'm just SUCH a bound book person (& don't want to pay school library printing prices) so it'd probably just be a bullet journal-style notebook for the research project itself with a lot of archiving relevant/interesting notes from papers & textbooks. I LOVE having everything in one book in my cousin, but I decided to major in my longest running hyperfixation, so it's a bit chaotic haha. Would be nice to put it in a containment/reference book and organize it by subfield (e.g. cosmology vs. planetary science vs. stellar astrophysics vs. orbital dynamics vs. broader physics like quantum mech, etc). Also would be nice to have a separate reading journal I could use for papers rather than novels haha!

these last two videos of yours have been really exciting for me and i thought i'd comment since it also answers the question at the end :3 in 2023 when you first were in a filofax, i got really inspired by you and got myself a big A5 binder that i tried to use as a 'big book of everything' but since then my system changed a bunch. i realized i like to keep things in distinctly separate sections so now i plan in a hobonichi, journal in traveler's notebooks and use my binder for commonplacing! (i know, best of all worlds lol) i never called them commonplace books before but since i started watching your videos and learned about them i see that the ''fandom books'' ive always had, do qualify as commonplacing. in middle school i had big bound books dedicated to harry potter, tho i do not support the writer or the franchise anymore, it was my most intense and longest lasting special interest. i would copy out short fanfic oneshots and headcannons from watpadd, translate interviews and other material to my native language, do little illustrations, make big lists of all the characters ever mentioned in the books from memory and write all their names backwards for some reason? years later; i evolved, my interests evolved. but i kept the soul of keeping notes about things i enjoy, very much inspired and encouraged by your content. now my fandom binder includes; 'wiki' pages for dont hug me im scared and five nights at freddy's characters, theories i find interesting, origins of creepypastas, especially slenderman, origins of mythical creatures like strigoi evolving into vampires and zombies, and also 'nicer' stuff like discographies of my favorite bands, my chemical romance, stray kids, reviews of their music, some random articles about bees and their communication and cognitive skills, and also furby lore! i really enjoy keeping my little archive like a museum of 'things that bring me joy', making them pretty, satisfying the creative side of my soul and flipping through when i need the extra boost of joy. this is a rather lengthy comment but i wanted you to know how much i appreciate what you put out there into the world wide void and how it has actually affected the trajectory of my life, you gave me 'permission' to enjoy media in the 'intense' way i want to. so thank you for the much needed encouragement! also would love a video on how and what you will pack for your trip!

hello megan, regarding the interest binders; i keep notebooks/ring binders on: - the history of labyrinths + mazes / depictions of those (as well as the minotaur) in visual arts and writing - saint sebastian in visual arts + writing, specifically in conncection to the queer community - a binder with my favorite illustrations/posters/book covers featuring the hound from hound of the baskervilles - my personal fiber arts projects with notes on projects and yarn samples - a collection of postcards ive recevied from friends and family or just bought in museums etc sorted by place of origin i have a hard time actually verbally talking about my interests, so i've become increasingly attached to my books, and your videos never cease to inspire me :-)

lurker here, i'm adhd not autistic so i don't know if i can call this a special interest or not, but i have a book dedicated to folklore/mythology of the land. So mainly specific areas and their geography, and then what is thought to inhabit them (e.g. brenin llwyd/the grey king along the mountain ranges of Eryri, the giant Idris from Cadair Idris (very special childhood mountain) and also thinking of starting books on arthurian legends/medieval stuff as that's been a long term interest of mine. I also have "hyperfixation books", aka books i started with the intention of filling up but the hyperfixation ended before I could :((

absolutely loving your archive binders! seems like such a cool way to pull together research on focused topics but with the freedom to keep random information that resonates. I could see myself using a system like this for keeping track of my way too many hobbies & interests (and those impulsive wikipedia deep dives....last week's was the history of waffles lol). It's a cool tangible way to see where your focus has been and when. Safe travels :)

i love your bog book! i don't have special interest binders but after infodumping about the tv show merlin over and over in my journals i decided to start a scrapbook/junk journal book for infodumping - and of course immediately lost interest, but it's there when the hyperfixation returns XD i also have recently started binding my own books of the poems of john keats - so far i have a book of what's known as his "great odes" (the most famous being "ode to a nightingale") and all of his first published book, 'poems of john keats' (1817), in the original order. they're done in coptic stitch, and "interleaved" ie with additional blank pages for taking notes. basically, i'm currently doing a phd on keats, and even if i wasn't he's one of my all-time favourite poets, and i was getting annoyed with never having enough space on a page to annotate as much as i wanted - i mean, i have my undergrad notes on one copy of a poem, then notes from my phd, random notes on sticky notes in a copy of a selection of his poems - it was too messy and i wanted them all in one place. so now i can! at least for those poems - i still need to bind his other works, but it's taking a while, especially since the covers are made of recycled materials (usually the covers from pads of paper, or cardboard) which i've currently run out of.

For what I'd keep in an interest notebook/binder: I think I'd do textile arts, art history, specialty coffee, and a wedding research book. I've been so horrible at actually keeping notebooks though. I've been contemplating a commonplace book to keep track of all the things I'd like to remember: I tend to cycle through interests and return to the same ones months or years later. (I do keep a notebook for Formula 1! But that's been my only success lol ) I've been very inspired by your binder system: i love how it lets you rearrange and reorganize and spin off categories. I love hearing about it all of your systems and your thoughts behind them and the bog book and also bogs in general.

I would love to see travel content!! If I was going to fill special interest binders, I think it'd be a lot about my own personal mental health research (mostly OSDD), Batman and DC comics in general (they have always been a huge comfort for me since I was little), but there's so many timelines and alternate universes that I'd love to curate my favourite plotlines that I personally would consider canon - that's kind of what I love about DC is there's so many versions of everything that I can just decide what I like as canon and the rest is just another comic series I can pretend I didn't read if I didn't vibe with it. And vampires and other European folklore is another one I'd write a lot about as well and probably a lot from the places my family is from.

I’m so bad at actually reading articles, but I love the idea of research lol. I always end up finding articles I would want to read but not having the mental energy to actually read/annotate, which makes my commonplace woefully unused. Off the top of my head, I’d say I’d have a binder about archiving/personal info management too, and one on conceptions of the self. My issue with defining my Topics of Interest™ is that I think of them in keywords, but a lot of them are interconnected so it’s hard to make clear cut categories. I like memory, the idea of personal mythology, personal narrative, autobiography/fiction, ghosts/hauntings, etc etc etc. I did have one in the past about moss. I second the comment recommending Gathering Moss by Robin Wall Kimmerer. I wish all information was communicated the way she does. I’m super interested in that commonplace page you had with quotes about sleep/feeling unreal.

Edit: I am travelling for three weeks and in trying to cut down what I am carrying, I have accidentally created an RPG and writing book haha. I’ve just bought some rings from rymans and have two going through the holes and have a cover so it’s very slapdash, but otherwise I hypothetically would make a vampires book, a classics (Ancient Greece and Rome) book and a book for silly fantasy films that are super bad but so so good

i enjoyed this video so much. bog discourse 👌 (BOG VLOG!!) i love the little pinterest screenshots. i also appreciated hearing you talk about memory issues in relation to special interests - i feel the same way, like even with special interests i've had for decades, i have a hard time bringing up information from the depths of my brain lol, but if i read something or someone else tells me something, i'm like "oh yeah i knew that". like i have a whole library of information in my brain, but i lost my library card or something hahah. the reference system in the brain computer is broken!! often i'll have a vague notion that i know something, but i'll doubt myself because i feel like i should be able to Cite Sources and Be 100% Factual. i am def tempted to make special interest binders now!! one of mine is edvard munch & i have a notebook/scrapbook i've been collecting stuff in for ages now, it could use some tidying up and organising. edit: actually now that i'm thinking about it, i realise that making special interest notebooks was a hobby of mine as a kid. i had books for all the classics lol astronomy, dinosaurs, geological formation 😂😂

you've gotten me looking into using filofax and i have the supplies sitting in my cart waiting for pay day! i'm planning to make a binder of recipes i've tried and liked (i tend to cook the same 6 meals but when i want to vary it i always lose track of where my fav recipes are when i want them). i also plan to...idk if it's considered commonplacing but on tumblr i have a 'to keep' tag which is just quotes/articles/posts/poetry etc that really resonate with me that i'd like to make physically accessible and annotate on, and that'll be another filofax binder. and then i write, and so i'd like to have binders for my different books-in-progress with relevant articles/inspo content! i have adhd and suspect i may be on the autism spectrum, but either way this whole system really speaks to me, so thank you for introducing me to it. i journal currently in a kinbor but it feels a bit restrictive and wasteful, bc some days i have a lot to say and not enough space to put it, and others i have nothing to say/am burnt out, and so i have empty pages. being able to insert and shuffle and remove all my stuff sounds wonderful, and i'm excited for the tactility of it.

Dfntly would love a video on travel prep! For my special interests binder i think the only one i would really love making is for whales! Love them, and a whole giant book/binder about them would be just perfect

I went to a cool bog area (I think they were technically mudflats) on Vancouver Island (Canada) near Tofino that had paths and boardwalks through it as well as informational signs/plaques that were really interesting to read. I always take pictures of signs like those so that I can read them again later while going through my photos so I remember what everything is. 😊 If you don't mind sharing, where are you going in Canada?

So, just two things: 1. At this point in time I have realised I would be interested in anything you do 😂😂 so I'm all in for the travel blogs 2. I have a book where I put all things I find interesting - which are a lot. I am waiting for it to evolve enough to see if I can make big groups with subgroups inside and see if there can come books of their own!

I am forever putting things "somewhere safe" and then finding they vanished! Maybe Borrowers are real 😅! As for special interest binders, I have quite a few special interests, so I would probably end up with a lot. 100% one for Victorian London, one for episodes of the Uncanny podcast (so good), and one for historic ghost sightings. Niche and pretty random as binder ideas go, I guess.

not to be dramatic, but I think your bog book changed my life. Lately I've been really interested in circus arts, cats, philosophy, and stationary. I'm just doing some stream of consciousness journaling and common placing in travelers inserts. I find myself not wanting to actually look at the pages when I flip through because of how disorganized it is. I think it would be really nice to have something for topics that come up a lot.

I would probably keep a book on how other people take notes, or make sketchbooks. 😊

I love your journals and books! I'm always so inspired after I watch them! Quick question - and I apologize if you have answered this elsewhere and I just haven't found it... what paper do you print your pictures for your Filofax on? Yours always look so much crisper than mine... I'm thinking of moving from a sticker paper to using a matte photo paper - but am worried about the thickness of that.

Would be really interesting to see about travel inserts (anything travel related because I love it 🥰) also special interest for me would have to Greek Mythology...its very clichè I suppose lol but I'm fasinated with it. Also a probably true crime....especially cold cases I like the theories surrounding it. Have a good day!

If i were to make special interest binders, id make one for everything gothic (music, subculture, literature, art, music, architecture, fashion) my biggest and longest special interest, one on art and design theory, one on biology, and one on philosophy. This is such a cool idea, i have been infatuated with the idea of archiving my knowledge like Sherlock Holmes mentions, your little brain attic has limited space.

Hi Megan, since you like gloomy things I was wondering if you hard heard of The Excavation of Hob's Barrow. It is a folk horror point and click game, and it takes place in the moors of Victorian rural England. I know bogs aren't moors, but I thought the game's atmosphere (very gloomy and strange) could be of interest to you? Also thank you for your videos, I like to listen to them and then rewatch them and discover new things, your tone of voice and the subjects you talk about always soothe me! :)

I'm REALLLY tempted to make a tattoo binder (both the tattoos I have done and other tattoos done but other people), a binder on my art and storytelling. Basically, the two things I'm really passionate about…. I'm kinda thinking of it as “Instagram account” but like really not lol
