It took me a very very long time to make peace with the idea that it's the exploration and experimentation that bring me the most joy when I'm engaging with a project. I used to feel so guilty for constantly changing projects and systems and never finishing anything. Now I understand and embrace that, and god the fcking pressure off my shoulders changed everything. Im so glad to hear you saying that the guilt is loosening the grip on you. You absolutely deserve guilt-free joy! ❤

omg this is me too!! but i didn't realise it was the experimentation/exploration thing and i thought i was just unable to finish anything (well, i already know i'm probably adhd so that lessened the guilt a bit, but still) but the way you phrased this made some things click! ✨

Leaving for my first year of uni tomorrow, just want to say that since I discovered your videos a few months back they have provided me with so much comfort and inspiration (helping me to start journaling, currently using a TN), the level of sincerity in each of your videos is so hard to find today and it is so appreciated ❤

Oh my gosh you unlocked a memory for me. My older sister was very 90s-coded and she used to be into fantasy and dragons and all that. She would buy fabric paints and stencils and make her own t-shirts. It’s fairly cheap as far as hobbies go, and then you end up with unique clothing items. Feeling very inspired, thanks for sharing your patches!

Megan, your experimentation with journaling and planning is both refreshing and encouraging. I do the same things with a basic journal or planner. So do what you need to do and know that so many of us need to see you do this and learn from you. I admire your tenacity and discipline.

I resonate with what you are saying about having a year for experimenting. That's what I've been feeling about this year, as well. For me, it has been a year of trying to figure out how to adult in between spells of bad health where nothing is happening, learning to live with chronic illness, learning to live at peace with that new normal. I guess what I'm trying to say is - if experimenting and playing around with planners gives you joy and feels right with you, that is perfect. No reason at all to feel guilty about it. Our planning and memory keeping systems are for ourselves, not for a distant public to judge.

I agree 100% you shouldn’t feel bad about unused covers. My standard sized TN sat in a dust bag for 3 years before I picked it up again. I used A6 and pocket but wanted something larger, now it’s a love affair between that travelers notebook and I. It’s like getting a whole new system except I didn’t have to buy anything. 😂

I love how you find different hobbies and things to do to occupy your time. I don’t think you have to apologize for your creativity. I think it’s cool you’re finding and trying new things that work for you. I hope everything works out!

i saw your comment under lindsey’s video and i just knew you were going to venture into the tn world. i moved out of rings into a tn system a few months ago because i did not like the printing situation. i started using sterling ink’s 520 page tomoe river paper notebooks which i absolutely love. i have mashed up my bullet journal and commonplace which is going swell. it is really hard to accept experimentation as a good thing. i struggle with this as well but it is so fun and sparks creativity. i cant wait to see your notebooks in their final form. have fun and enjoy creating good things. we are all enjoying your videos as we carry on your journey.

"I think I did more damage than good worrying about changing systems." That hits so hard.. funny that you mentioned Lindsey immediately after. I thought about her as you said it. ❤ This was me this year.

while i definitely understand wanting to stick to one system for cost reasons (it's a problem for me as well), it's important to let the ebb and flow of what works for you guide you! for those with adhd, it's natural to get tired with one method of organization or find that it no longer works for you or drives you. forcing yourself to keep using it only makes yourself more frustrated and grinds your brain gears even harder. i'm glad you don't feel bad about trying new things! it's important to embrace what works for you, even if that's different from what it was yesterday.

i think that us autistics love optimization. Seems like your planner journey has been one of optimization which, to your father’s point, is the perfect natural progression to making your own. to everyone else’s benefit ☺️

For me… I flow. I love having options. I love changing “systems” when I feel like I need a change. They still all go on the same shelf. Right now I’m loving Robiki waxed notebooks and the super convenient cloth covers. I just loaded mine up for a trip to Ireland to see my kids. You might change notebook systems, but I would know a Petit Gloom notebook anywhere :)

I'm on the same boat, using a ring binder in personal wide but missed the feel of my traveler's notebook. I like the way you make the inserts. I usually staple them or leave them unbound but your way looks practical for small booklets that open flat. I was thinking of making many smaller inserts rather than two or three bigger ones like I used to. I need one for lists, one for random notes, one for journaling, one for creative writing and one for planning. My commonplace book and therapy notes can be separate so that I don't carry all of them around. 🤔

ah what a coincidence. i have been autistically focused on travelers notebook these past two weeks and have implemented the passport into my system as a wallet and finance journal. and then i just found someone destashing a black standard tn, that i want to use as a bible study journal. im trying out the jet pens exclusive inserts, kansho sanssi, bc im curious about the faint dot grid paper +it’s tomoe river. and as my memory day keeping, i am using the sterling ink common planner, which i love bc for next year, she has the common planner compact a5, which is basically just the front half of the hobonichi cousin a5 but just a few note pages in the back so i don’t have to worry about the stress ab the daily pages. and then i found out last night that the a6 hobonichi notebook is actually the perfect size common place notebook for me. oof a four book system! but i feel like i have the best of all the systems . and they are all black cover and customizable, so i am excited ya know? thanks for sharing and giving me some solidarity 😂🖤

OMG the Travelers Notebook❤ I switched to one in November after having loads of planner struggles with my Leuchtturm (switched between sizes but none gave me what I wanted) and I was inspired by your Weeks to try something narrow. And now I love my TN and don't plan on switching😊 4 months is also what I can get into one regualar TN insert (2 spreads in the front, monthly spread, 2 misc which I use for finance and then one spread per week) I love your videos soo much and can relate to so many of your struggles (it's nice to see I am not the only one)❤❤❤ you inspire me so much and for so long now (switched to an A6 Leuchtturm back in the day when you were still using them) and started a common place journal in my TN because yours look so nice

You may enjoy waxing your thread before handsewing with it. :) Beeswax is ideal but even candle wax works fine! It makes the thread slide more smoothly, which in turn makes it less likely to tangle or catch.

This year has been a year of experimentation for me, too! I tried a lot of the same books/systems as you, and it's been nice to try different things and find what fits ME. I agree that having everything split in multiple books is stressful, but I'm just going to dump everything into one 2023 Hobonichi box, and then (try to) stick to one system for next year. If this year of experimenting results in me finding something that works for me, it was well worth it, and I hope you feel the same!
@home.sick27 Жыл бұрын
i love the experiments with different journal systems the only "problem" i have with it is that i'm getting tempted to switch mine again after just getting into your printables 😅 what i've liked with your printables was that i got the flexibility/customisability i had from bulletjournalling (but bujo burnt me out cuz it was so much work, and it had such focus on always being productive and moving the same task over and over to each day just made my executive dysfunction worse) but it took away some of the workload that it was premade. 📝i also tried artjournalling without days at all (basically only commonplacing/documenting), but somehow also became overwhelming and hard to keep up with. lately i have been hyperfocusing on the printables but i don't know how long i can keep up, cuz i've only used it for around a month-ish and it's already quite full, and i'm struggling to figure out how to make it suit my needs and not try to adjust myself to the journal (which is something i've been struggling with since my bujo days) so the smaller notebooks are sounding tempting haha. I hope I can find a system that is The System™ for me, but we'll see what it ends up being.🌿 I'll probably stick to the printables for a while tho! Until I know what to do next, at least.🌼✨ (ps: sorry for the wall of text, my adhd doesn't know how to be consise)

I feel like we are always growing and evolving internally, personally I’m very scared of change and the future, so once I started watching your videos, I have learned to embrace the change and just accept what I can’t change and embrace the changes I can, no matter how small they are. I haven’t journaled in soo long until 3 days ago. I am starting to feel emotionally better, just a bit stressed due to life changes (I’m driving now and it’s very nerve wrecking). I don’t think we should feel guilty for finding what works for us and even if something works and we change it just cause, we shouldn’t feel guilty because we’re not meant to stay in a box or feel confined into whatever we do. This is a creative outlet, even if it is practical, at the end of the day, life is just about being content and happy, not consistent and strict. You got this and your videos truly help people, it’s helped me a lot at the very least. Be safe and I wish you and your loved ones well

I think it's really cool to experiment with things. I've been using an A6 notebook for my bullet journal for yeeears and your filofax experiments got me experimenting with designing some pages for myself and trying to work out a type of ring binder that would work for me. Eventually decided it wasn't right for me but I had fun trying things out and I've now decided to give a discbound notebook a go. I still adore my beloved A6 but I'm looking forward to finding out if discbound will be even better for me.

Those booklets wold be so lovely. I also use a filofax now, but it is pretty old (I bought it 6 years ago), so I am considering trowing it out and start a new chapter in my planning journey. At the beginning of the year I could reach planner peace, but since june I keep being more and more bothered. So I can totally understand your restlesness. My main goal is making my new planner more compact and practical (only the montly and weekly pages), so those thin bianco booklets sound the perfect solution. It is a brilliant idea.
