TIPS!! I do a few little markets and for tips I learnt. Definitely work with height and layers because things just on flat on the table or too low people just walking by won’t see. Think eye level. Also for labeling stickers, depending on how much you are bringing, I have a lot of stickers I sell, that I ended up making a display board with numbers so they just tell me which number (mainly to avoid theft of inventory - people in the past when i use to use have everything out would sell when i was busy helping another person. learnt real hard.)

The numbering is a must! Also helpful for stickers: Having a cheat sheet on the back of your board and having your stickers organized in the same manner they are displayed too. Stickers are hard. Lol

Have QR codes so people can easily follow you. Some of my best customers have been people that didn't buy that day but followed up later. Markets can be exhausting I completely agree but like you said it's fun to meet your customers! I think you did really well for your first market! 😊

I think when it comes to a small art market like that you just have to view it as an advertising and networking event. It’s an opportunity to meet people who haven’t heard about you yet, expand a relationship with someone who already knows about you, and connect with your colleagues. Not so much a money making event but I think the result afterward has potential to make money later. It would be interesting to see if there’s an uptick in sales after art markets, maybe you should keep track of that and see if there’s any long term effect

I totally agree! Started art markets myself, and even though some markets were not that busy, I got to meet new people that followed me afterwards, and it was overall a great marketing tool :)

Markets are exhausting! I do 2 a week, which includes tent & table set up. I'm an introvert too, so it is testing sometimes. Do bring your free square swipe reader, as there is the odd person who does not have a chip credit card. Also if you are outside, be prepared for wind too. Glad you had a good experience! Markets are fun and it is so rewarding when people love and buy your art!

I second the Square swipe reader. I went to a market recently and only had Eftpos chip less gift cards from my birthday. I was able to get a teensy bit of art because my boyfriend had a little bit of money on his phone but I missed out on a ton of art because no one could use the swipe function (gift cards were the ones that work anywhere Eftpos is used). 😢

I've learned a lot with following my Mom, a fabric and crafts seller, to different shows. Ask questions to fellow vendors, see what their experiences have been and try to Google up others vlogs of being in previous shows so you can get the general vibe, don't be afraid to limit the inventory you bring with you and try to set yourself up to take orders for the larger pieces/items you don't bring since you're traveling. Give one time deals just for that show and advertise it. Hmm that's what I can think of atm.

As for organizing behind the table, I definitely recommend using accordion expanding file folder (they usually come in two standard sizes). They're great for traveling and staying organized they have little tabs you can label your sticker or prints to make it quick and easy to grab multiple items when someone is buying a bunch of different items. I use a small one for my stickers and a larger one for mini prints and postcard. I also recommend using the hard plastic ones instead of the paper for more protection when traveling to events!

I love art markets. The rush in preparing for one is always a combination of exciting, fun, and stressful. I don't always feel like talking to people, but there's always that thrill you get when people love your work and their reactions are so lovely. At the end of the cons here, most of the artists go around and do sticker trades. If you haven't gotten it yet, sticky tack is a good way to keep things in place. I use that to keep the stickers on my corkboard, and for making sure signs don't fall. For the acrylic riser, I've done away with the screws but use some covered garden wire to keep them in place. Easier to take them apart for transportation.

I love seeing other peoples' market setups! I just started vending at markets last year, and not once did I leave myself enough time to do a practice run of my setup. I love seeing that you gave yourself the time and space to figure things out ahead time!

I always see people at cons and markets having a tip jar, and I see it does pretty well! Especially if it's a bit funny with like a sign or something similar, people would be more inclined to tip I guess :3

If you build up more wire cubes, you can use the backside to organize easily-accessible products. If you're worried about it looking messy from the font, just block the back with some 12x12 scrapbooking cardscock. With a little bit of crafty engineering, you can create something that aesthetic and functional.

Your setup turned out so cute!! The onigiri was perfection 💕 I want to add something cute like that to my setup. You mentioned it at the end, but I wanted to recommend thinking about how to display your items in a way that you don't have to do a bunch of work during the market. The less exhausting you can make the day, the better imo haha. I know a lot of people hand out items from behind the table, but for little things like stickers I like to put my inventory out. It makes it easy for people to just grab what they want, and I think being able to shuffle through the items keeps people around my table longer so they discover more. I just keep items like that in my view so I know people won't steal, and I haven't had any problems :) Makes it easy for ppl to just hand you cash and move on, and i've found that i've sold a lot more stickers that way!

Markets are so hard!!! It really does take some practice/luck to see which ones are worth it energy/profit wise for your business. They are all so different and I definitely underestimated the physical demand of the gig (prep, set-up, customer service, tear down). I think Mocca will be a great fit for your biz! Wonderful video super fun to see your set up and what you learned from your first show. For Tips: Hight is your friend, Lighting is key and can make or brake your art. Good luck on your next show, I've been tabling for big and small shows for the better part of 10 years. They are very tiring as you said that never changes sadly, just make sure to bring lots of water healthy food and snacks. Going from not talking to often to talking all day can do a number on your voice. Good luck in new york :)

I love the stickers in the front. Maybe stick each sticker to the riser and put a small sticker on there for pricing. Are they all the same price? If yes a price sticker in front. Maybe number the stickers and put the rest in the photo boxes and number the photo boxes in order. Maybe a price tag punch … it will make it look cuter and attach with embroidery floss or something similar. I love all your artwork … good luck with all your future in-person selling! ♥️

I keep my in-person shows under ten. I’m also frugal about it. There are deals out there to at least give you a break on table cost. Our spread is similar-ish. I lean more towards comics. Locally we had a local arts tent at the Columbus Arts Festival. Spots were free to local artists with a small commission to the local arts council. Foot traffic was huge but I bombed. What sold like crazy at the arts festival was jewelry. Two shows, because of my cv are comped. Sales are mixed. Nothing that would comp travel, hotel & food. Best scenario are one and done festivals. One day shows are where it’s at. When you do festivals and cons, that sale dollar gets stretched out regardless of the amount of days you’re there. If there’s an exception, I’d love to hear about it. You basically sell on Saturday and the other days you’re set up? Maybe you’ll get one small rush but the rest of the time you’re staring into space.

Hey! Idk if you already know, venmo gives you some merch, like a professional lil sign for your shop. The only thing is that you have to make your venmo into a business account (not hard) but you do get hit with a transaction fee from each sale. It's pretty low, however. I think minimum ten cents, then like 1%?*** on top..? Something along those lines. But yeah! The sign is pretty cute and they send you stickers and a lanyard with a card that also has the shop code. Thank you for sharing your art market experience!! It helped me think about everything that goes into it. Really appreciate you sharing, and love your art.
