@lagrangeweiАй бұрын
you really shouldn't talk about something you don't know. 20 years ago, there was a concept for light combat aircraft in the west under the understanding that majority of the task in the airforce does not involve air to air combat and therefore does not require an expensive aircraft, instead you want a ultra light platform that can operate long endurance mission providing close support and recon in low intensive zones where you need numbers, this concept was push because airforce in the west realise there is no way they can do a 1 to 1 replacement of their current airwing to the F35, you need something else to provide coverage that is cheap. many of the design we considered in the west involve just converting existing civilian design or combat trainer for this role. effectively it function as a piloted UAV. if you compare F313 to that requirement, it actually fit perfectly in that role, freely their heavy fighter to purely air defence roles. the F313 is clearly a converted civilian platform. this does not mean it is useless or just propaganda. for example if they just need to patrol the gulf seas, they can just use a slow flying platform that burn fuel slower. it just need to capable of carrying 2 to 4 short range missiles rather than the multi ton payload of frontline fighters. the light armanent it already more than enough to threaten unarmed or enemy coast guard unit.

regarding aerodynamics: the reason EVERY SINGLE modern fighter has intakes angled down is because fighters are expected to operate at high angles of attack. ( 7:27 ) I had immediately thought of the Boeing _"Bird Of Prey"_ test aircraft / large drone prototype. The "dropped" wings and large "bubble" canopy are a signature of what Boeing's _Phantom Works_ was researching - preventing shadows (also possibly using this in conjunction with "active camouflage"), and the stability of a "tailless" design. The aircraft was prototyped first by McDonnell Douglas, before Boeing bought them. The _"Bird Of Prey"_ was aerodynamically stable enough to fly without computer correction, due in part to the lift generated by its "chines" (the flat surfaces sticking out from the body forward of the "wings"), a "feature" from the legendary SR - 71 "Blackbird". The Bird Of Prey's lessons have been used in the X - 45 and X - 47 B large drone aircraft. The flight test model shown in this video can be seen in person on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force, Wright - Patterson Air Force Base, in Dayton Ohio

The F35 suffer from the same problems and are even worse.. The F22 has been in service for almost 20 years.. Call me crazy, but I think it’s insane to award a company that built a jet that cost hundreds of millions of dollars and was riddled with problems for 10 years a contract to build yet another jet that costs hundreds of millions of dollars.. Hell they are already talking about retiring the F22. The F35 has been in service for 10 years and the government is pouring billions into its replacement . What’s an acceptable timeframe for them to work out bugs in your opinion? Let’s say a brand new automobile is $70k and you are looking at a brand new cutting edge design and power train that’s the bees knees and has all the state of the art gizmos and bells and whistles.. However the same manufacturer launched a vehicle 10 years previous and it’s been riddled with problems the entire time. Are you going to spend your hard earned money on it to have the latest cutting edge technology? Are you going to have a big grin on your face and be proud of your purchase when it’s constantly in the shop having issues worked out with ZERO warranty? Are you going to be ecstatic giving the manufacturer 20 years to work out all the issues on your dime? My bet is you wouldn’t buy a brand new state of the art vehicle without a warranty and within 3 shop visits you would be pissed off wishing you could sue the manufacturer under lemon law..

At this point I don’t think we should even count the SU-57 as a stealth aircraft. Initial estimates put its observability at a similar level as the F-16. @avadhutagita3741Ай бұрын
You have logical dissonance, because Chinese aircraft don't participate in conflicts at all. Why don't you write that their stealth is similar to Spitfire from WWII?! So only one F-35 participates? No. Only Su-57 participated in conflicts with a well-trained army with modern air defence (in 2022, it was engaged in dropping conventional and smart bombs, there're couple of videos from Ukraine, but not single Su-57 was shot down), Russians were afraid that NATO will spend tens of missiles, but will shoot down Su-57 to study components and stopped using Su-57. US stealth aircraft haven't proven, because expensive US stealth F-117 in Serbia was shot down by Russian Stalin-era air defence, but F-35 fought only in Palestine against militants who have nothing, except RPG-7s for air defence and own eyes. US will also never send F-35s to Ukraine, even with its army, because Russians will start hunting them down for study components.
@Nathan-vt1jzАй бұрын
@@avadhutagita3741 So you think the SU-57 is a stealth fighter and the J-20 is not? Just by basic design principles we can estimate an aircraft’s radar return (with radar absorbing materials included). The SU-57 is low observable compared to most 4th gen aircraft - but it’s not in the same range as the Nighthawk, Raptor, Lightning, or J-20 (nor the B-2 and B-21). There’s a reason India took a good look at the aircraft and bailed from the project.

I wouldn't call the J20 a stealth fighter. Having canards makes it inherently less able to avoid detection. Basically two large mirrors saying "Hey, radar, I'm right over here".

Exactly, thing is I would typically take reports from Indian Air patrols with a grain of salt given the king rivalry between India and China, BUT, apparently one of our fleets also had a C2C asset near enough for the radar umbrella to extend and could confirm the overheard Indian Su30 chatter that they spotted a flight of J20s at distances more in line with the RCS of a reduced vis 4th gen.
@voidtempering87002 ай бұрын
Canards do not increase the RCS like you think they do. The difference is negligible. For example, there were plans for a naval YF-23 that had canards, and it was not cancelled because it wasn't stealthy enough. Just look up the canard patent for stealth.

I had not heard its stealth is THAT bad. But it is a moot point because only a handful were made. Even at home, other than launching long range missiles from deep within Russia, the SU-57 has not engaged in Putin's ongoing, 30 month 'Special Military Operation'. Given that all of Russia's weapons have performed poorly, their foreign arms sales has shriveled. Sanctions have compounded the issue. So, its future is bleak.

Su 35 is extremely good, Mig-31K's are the fastest and one of the best interceptors on the planet, and launch kinzhals every week. Keep doubting their ability, because that's exactly what they want. BTW, S-400 and 500 is mass produced and much better than the Patriot, even Ukraine only just ran out of S300 missiles after 2 full years of war and 0 production. The Russians are just better at manufacturing stuff it seems

A stealth fighter isn't designed to be invisible because this isn't possible. Radar _will_ pick up a signal off of it eventually. The aim is to combine high range, high speed, with _low_ radar visibility so that, ideally, it's objective is either already accomplished by the time anyone knows it was there, or it's too late to mount an effective response.
