I tried that with competitive freeride skiing. It was the first time I ever competed, and there was a helicopter with camera crew that were filming each run. Dropping down the mountain, hearing the heli, and seeing its shadow glide across the mountainside below me as I was skiing down.. A truly magical experience. Sadly the following years the budget for the heli was cut, and they used drones instead :(

In a way, it's almost a must in downhill mountain biking. Natural passing spots are almost non-existent since most of the run is single-track. You either pass on the pedaling zones or hope the guy in front lets you by.

no, they have to do that because otherwise the person with momentum would break, their brakes. At least i think thats how it works
@Maxwaehrens6 жыл бұрын
Jason Vermette It's hard to say, but if someone who is much faster rides behind someone rather slow they will have to do unnecessary breaking which builds up extra heat on the disc rotors. And at some point the rotors and pads will be unable to "cope" with the heat so they just fail/break.

For those of us who grew up in the northern midwest we are aware there is such a thing as mountains and that people climb them and ski and bike them. It's not until I watched this whole thing that I really understood just how HUGE mountains are. The highest natural point in Wisconsin is Timms Hill at just 1,951.5 feet. The slope is so gradual from sea level that you can barely tell it's elevated. It looks more like there is an area where another type of tree grows just a little taller than the others around it. New found respect for mountains. Holy Hell! Respect for Reinhold Messner and Ed Viesturs and guys like them.
@flekt2044 жыл бұрын
this is how my grandparents described their way of going to school
I watched this after seeing an average placement racer go down the same track. This is an incredible display of skill, but I have to say, in some ways it almost looks easier without all the other riders as added obstacles!
@dtiydr5 жыл бұрын
Thats why you need to be at minimum among the 15 - 20 first ppl at the front to even have a small chance at the podium. Any farther back and its just impossible. If you also have speed with you at the first 90 degree bend you could easily be among the top 5 and then the chase begin.
@Delirious76675 жыл бұрын
@@dtiydr overall starting position matters less than you think. During 2019 Mountain of Hell, one Rider passed over 950 other riders. He started last and finished 39th after his brakes failed.
@dtiydr5 жыл бұрын
@@Delirious7667 It matter big time if you go for No 1, which of course you would. Yes I have seen that entire video but that person was sort of speak a pro and thus very easily went pass a huge amount of pretty much amateurs. It is very easy to fast advance in the field in a scenario like that. And as some who thinks and not just do, didnt went full blast into the first 90 degree curb and fall but break some before and thus went past a huge amount of ppl that had crashed since they didn't thought at all. By this he had a lot of speed with him and this is well as that all the amateurs didn't dare to go to fast as him, made a heck of a lot of different in his race that he could advance as fast as he did. Its like having 1000 F1 cars and one pro in the last car and pure amateurs in all the others. The pro would probably still win. So I don't really see anything special with that video, it was totally normal that he would advance this much. However, once again, to be among the top 3 you pretty much have to be at least in at least the 2 perhaps 3 (but then you need to be lucky in the race or advance fast at the very start) or preferably 1 row to have chance and you must be able to go past the 90 degree bend without crashing and with speed out of it, and have as most around 15 ppl in front of you. Then you absolutely have chance for No 1 or there about, otherwise absolutely not.
