Kilian Bron put up a brave fight, all the way to the finish, but ultimately couldn't overcome the proverbial "grease lighting" downhill moves of the winner (hereby identified as "Mortal Enemy"). Interesting time points: @0:36: Kilian Bron narrowly misses a side-swipe and flies to 1st place… @4:42: But he loses it to a downhill attack, and falls to 2nd place! @6:17: His Mortal Enemy is so fast downhill, he's barely visible now… @7:31: Yup, he slips out of visual range… @10:01: Visual contact reestablished! Kilian Bron is about 23 seconds behind. @14:34: A large number of spectators…must be risky crash zone. @19:02: Wow, Kilian Bron bridged that gap very quickly… @19:50: …and overtakes Mortal Enemy on the climb to take 1st place! @21:22: Oh no! Mortal Enemy overtakes Kilian Bron with slick passing move! @22:22: Mortal Enemy takes unorthodox line…but didn't really gain time. @23:31: More unorthodox lines. This is becoming Mortal Enemy's signature move. (Also, Kilian Bron tries same move) @23:47: I can't believe the helmet cam fits through! @30:47: C'mon Kilian Bron! You can do it! @31:35: Yes! Uphills are Kilian Bron's allies. @33:40: Mortal Enemy times his attack perfectly, and slingshots into his preferred downhill terrain in 1st place! @40:02: Mortal Enemy went so deep, he had to lie down. Good sportsmanship from Kilian Bron!

The guy who came first not only rode technically superb but also tactically brilliant. At 31:30 he lets Killian by so he can stay in his slipstream during the downhill developed section and rest for a full 2 minutes. When this section finally ends you can see him at 33:40 powering out of his saddle to overtake Killian again before the hard to overtake mountain section. This is quite obviously not his first rodeo and you can see he has extraordinary knowledge about this 40 minute track.

great run. I've watched this in full several times for tips and Borges didn't win by much and Bron is a monster particularly the way he crushes opponents on the uphills, but that guy Borges is IMO the best in these events this year. The way he flies downhill you wonder if he even has any brakes and he's clever, too, the way he let himself be passed twice, playing cat and mouse, but stayed right there on Bron's shoulder the first pass and then powered by for the downhill; the second time had to be planned, too, because I believe he let him go by for the km of pavement so that he could conserve energy by getting into Bron's slipstream, and then when the road widened just before the final section of narrow single track downhill he passed him for good. very entertaining and instructive vid. Congrats to both.
@milesthales54455 жыл бұрын
Vonarg vo I’d like to know what Bron felt. He had to know he was being played the time he caught up to him on the uphill dirt road with the people and passed Borges so easily but couldn’t shake him. And then 2 meters before the single track downhill where passing would be hard, Borges flies by like nothing.

I have become obsessed with this race. Watching different riders, different years, in no particular order. in the early part of this race when the rider in the red suit passed Kilian Brone, who is no slouch, I don't think I've ever seen anyone ride a bike as 'light' as that rider. It looked like half the time his bike wasn't touching the ground and the other half just skimming ground. This race, or at least riding these trails, is a bucket list item for me!

Best Mega race for 1st there ever was. I'd say the winner knew the course a bit better - he knew where to straight line and cut in tight - you had the fitness in catching him, but his plan I'm sure you know now, was to let you go up so he could rest and then squeeze you off before the single track. Brilliant racing - mad skills.

Yeah, you can tell that the person in 1st place came from a downhill background. He hit every corner perfectly coming down, but really struggled to maintain a good pace going uphill. I feel like Kilian might have had this race but he kept doing 2 things that could possibly slow him down. Wiping the camera often, and looking back. I don't see a reason to look backwards when you have your only competition in front of you.

WOW what a great race, the longest and the best footage Ive seen, having watched about six of these races. What a faultless ride, it was great to have the guy in red out front and just see how he handled the track through hair pin bends and the trees. The scariest point for me was when he came onto the first section of bitchumen flying down the road squeezed in by the barriers. In the future I can see this becoming an Olympic sport with a few uphill sections and more opportunities for overtaking. It was great to watch with a few Calvin Harris tracks.
