Our basil has been prolific this year too. We’ve been dehydrating (everyone in the family is getting a jar for Christmas), making pesto and freezing it in ice cube trays, and making a basil flavored vinegar. I’m so sick of basil 🌿 😂

Hey Meg!! I’d suggest drying as much of the basil as possible and then store it in airtight glass jars to use in your cooking later on. You could let them air dry or use your oven or a dehydrator 😉

For the basil: you can make tons of pesto, portion it in little containers and put it in the freezer. Also, David Lebovitz has a recipe for basil ice cream, and Stella Parks has a recipe for a basil dessert with white chocolate... never tried, but she's reliable. Mainly, I would say make pesto for this winter. You'll be glad.

I would definitely dry a bunch and blend up and freeze a bunch of basil. I didn't and I've been missing it for months lol. So glad its finally spring for me so I can grow a ton again. Drying is great because it reduces a huge volume of the space it would take to store.

I loved what you said about letting nature do its thing! My fall squash are already being attacked by vine borers, but honestly I just don't want to spray anything (and don't want to spend the money lol). I'll pick better varieties in the future, but for now, I'll sit back and observe and see how it plays out. Really enjoying your channel, new follower here :)

Of everything you harvested, the only things I'd eat are the tomatillos, eggs, sunflower seeds, and corn. So picky. Right now I'm growing sugar snap peas, basil, kale, spinach, bibb lettuce, mustard greens, and radishes. Also have a couple tiny stunted everbearing strawberries that look like they might be working on a berry.

Sorrel only blooms in time for Christmas. Doesn't matter when you plant, the plant will grow until and produce end of year. I've done late planting and had plants no taller than 6 inches and filled with flowers, ND on the other hand big plants that look like big bushy mini trees. It's such a funny plant.

Crazy that some ppl care about what other ppl do so much when it has nothing to do with them! Many parts of a plant can be eaten outside of what you normally find at the grocery store especially when stems, seeds are young etc, ex baby corn, squash stems, and in many parts of the world utilizing a whole plant is normal lol!

Damn, people are weird. Hating on you for eating a plant that was grown to be eaten. I kinda like MRIs - one thing I found sorta fun, and a friend thought it would be distracting for claustrophobics, is to really listen to where the sounds are coming from as the device moves around your head.
