Many would say that Harry had the opportunity for a unique and very satisfying role within the evolving royal family. He was well regarded and was being positioned to take very meaningful patron roles with a number of enterprises that meant a great deal for him. Remaining a duke when his brother ascends the throne would actually give him a good deal more privacy and freedom, while still having the security and support of the palace. The man is a fool. I think he's already done permanent damage to his relationship with the family. He may come back, if he and Meghan divorce - but he'll never be given a working royal role again.

Well stated. I agree. He could have had a very prestigious and meanful life as a Duke, supporting his brother and working at the Commonwealth and African projects. The late Queen put her hopes and faith in him making him President of the Commonwealth, and her VP! I feel she wanted fame and adoration such as Diana. She just doesn't, has never had, the substance and character to achieve it. By marrying Harry she got fame but it's turning out to be more infamy. She really has caused so much pain and harm. It's sort of unprecedented isn't it? Such a shame Harry was overcome by her offerings and tricks. He now seems to be realizing what he's done, and her part in it. But she holds his kids over him. He won't want to desert them.

Whatever people think of the Royal Family it cannot be denied that they DO pay their way, in lots of different ways. Quite apart from the ‘tourism revenue’ the fact they shine a light on various charities means those charities are able to help thousands, yes, thousands of people. Without the RF to shine a light on them the charities would dwindle away and those people would be abandoned. There are several countries in the commonwealth who have ‘opted’ into it, they get a voice at various tables (trade conventions etc) around the world they would otherwise not ‘have a voice ‘ at if not for the RF. The RF can’t be ‘lobbied’ the way our politicians can, they don’t have to worry about pleasing certain factions so they can be reelected again in 5 years. They’re not perfect, no-one is, but ‘they do not bare all about other family members, they don’t complain about their imagined hardships etc. They just get on with things, I believe they give us a stability and continuity we would not otherwise have. The most stable Europeans / Scandinavian countries are those with monarchies. Our media are appalling, they rarely report on any of the good things the RF are doing but print everything about the 2 in California at the drop of a hat. This is affecting the charities the RF are working with. I saw nothing in the mainstream media about the King and Queen visiting the Channel Islands but there was plenty about Harry getting a totally undeserved award. Please please don’t allow Harry back into the fold, he will always find a way to be disruptive and will do no good for the RF or the charities they help. He’s absolutely bang on about education in this country.
