Fallout 1 definitely feels different to modern fallout (arguably the world in it makes more sense), it's more bleak and desolate exactly how an apocalypse would feel 200 years after a nuclear war. It's definitely one of the hardest games to play, not to mention to get to run
@AusSP Жыл бұрын
Uh, no, Fallout 1 is about 90 years after the Great War. Modern Fallout (3, NV and 4, not 76) is 200 years after the Great War.

@@AusSP so people got more stupid 200 years after a war? It was 200 years ago for us the Napoleonic war happened, but we don't have random skeletons of Napoleon's troops or random cannons laying around do we? My point is fallout 1's world seems more realistic and darker compared to fallout 3 which is more parody
@AusSP Жыл бұрын
@@the98themperoroftheholybri33 The reason we don't have random cannons lying around is because people were there and collected things and buried bodies. While all of the games should have more greenery overcoming the ruins of civilization and animals eating bodies, without people, the remains of human civilization would generally still be there. Things don't just vanish on their own. During the Napoleonic wars, soldiers and civilians would practically strip dead bodies naked to take their possessions. Anything that can be reused or carried would vanish quickly. Fallout's setting design is probably more based on the current state of Chernobyl. A lot of stuff is just... still there.

@@AusSP there are stores in fallout 3 and 4 with straight up skeletons laying around and piles of trash everywhere, not to mention settlements have no food production, in fallout 1 people are rebuilding essentially pre industrial farming communities such as Shady Sands. @DigitalApex Жыл бұрын
@@the98themperoroftheholybri33 There's a theory that Fallout 3 was supposed to be set way earlier than 200 years originally, but Bethesda decided to have it take place later after the fact. Would explain why your character eats 200-year-old Salisbury steak and can find loads of food/drugs in supermarkets in DC, where they would likely have been picked clean after 2 centuries. Would also explain why there's so many damn skeletons just chilling out in someone's shack or business. Skeletons also _do_ compose after a while but they're literally everywhere in Fallout 3 and 4.

Fallout series is truly unique in it's setting, even though many others tried their hands on this "retro-futuristic" setting. So yeah, the story behind all this aesthetic is that during Cold War nuclear idustry grew much more stable and successfull than irl, which also shaped the american culture into nuclear pun-related way (like cereal brand is called Sugar Bombs with rockets as an emblem, or Nuca Cola, bottle of which is shaped like a rocket and etc.) and all tech is nuclear-powered. The Nuclear Bombs are also different than irl counterparts, so their primary objective was more radiation damage than actual fire and explosion damage. So no, when the bombs fell, it wasn't 1960s, it was 2077, and first game takes place 150+ years after that, with latest entries going for 200+ years after the drop. So this series always borderlines with seriousness of the possibility of nuclear war and a humour that some situations give, insanity that characters and moments give.

So, here's a relatively short Fallout history lesson that no one asked about. Fallout 1 and 2 were made, then the devs went bankrupt. Years later, Bethesda bought the IP. Made Fallout 3 and 4. Their devs had a different vision on Fallout, not necessarily in a bad way. New Vegas , which came out between 3 and 4, was published by Bethesda, but made by the studio Obsidian Entertainment, which housed some of the Fallout 1 and 2 devs. Therefore, New Vegas, out of the modern Fallouts, is considered the closest thing to the original games. Oh, and I just covered the major releases.

Waaay late, but it’s an alternate timeline that split from our’s around 1945-1950. The ascetic stayed the same from that time. The Transistor that we developed in our timeline wasn’t accepted popularly, which led to them having massive computers and machine components as apposed to our reality where everything is smaller and smaller. They also delved deeper into nuclear power than we have YET for fuel and many other things. They also continued with Petroleum like in our world. Alternate timeline. World ends in 2077. I always did wonder why they hard stuck with a 50's theme, until I was told that the idea was 'what if in the 50's, when everyone was trying to cobble together an idea for where to take humanity; they invested in nuclear science instead of computer technology?' The answer was pretty obvious; man crumbled under the weight of war, greed, and over consumption. Prices for things skyrocket before the devastation, and ultimately, man didn't get very far from where we started. Of the Fallout games, I think 4 is my favorite.

Just have to say, this particular video you reacted to wasn't the best to watch, simply because it pitches up certain trailers in the video to maybe avoid copyright? I mean, you can tell especially in the very first Fallout trailer, Ron Perlman's usually gravelly voice sounded like a kid putting on a voice pitched up like that. And in the Fallout 4 trailer, everyone sounded like they were chipmunks breathing helium. I've seen other people who reacted to the same video not like the trailers or not take them seriously because of that too, and when they watched the originals, it felt a lot different because say, in the Fallout 4 trailer, it has a really deep music score that comes blasting in, and in this one, the theme sounded like a buzzy mess. Seriously, please watch the original F4 trailer instead of the one you saw in the compilation. That being said, you should totally play the games!!

Obsidian made Fallout New Vegas; the Lead Creative Designer on FNV, John Gonzalez, went on to be the Narrative Director at Guerilla for Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West. I think that alone indicates that you'd really love that one! Bethesda made Fallout 3 and 4; if you've played the Elder Scrolls games, then you can anticipate the strengths and weaknesses story-wise there (very good at small, explorative, or emergent moments, weaker at main plot IMO). I love all three and the setting in general, and would love to see a playthrough of them! As others have mentioned though, it's definitely worth doing some light modding to address stability/bugs. I'm sure someone in your community could help you get set-up with a barebones mod setup that just addressed basic stability and unofficial bug patch kind of things. (Don't get me wrong, I love playing these with all sorts of mods and there's a LOT of them out there, but you'd probably prefer your first playthrough to be as close to vanilla as possible, I assume?)

Fallout was great, but its been in a descending trend. The first two were great as they had this really dark tone to them, but are more difficult to get into due to the old style turn-based gameplay, and can be pretty unforgiving. From 3 onward it was in full 3D and with "modern" gameplay, but in my own eyes kinda reduced due to treating the setting as more of a joke. 3 Still did it quite well and kept the joke aspect to a relative low. But with 4 the game plays more like a slot machine where the game throws countless funny/jackpot sounds and flashes at you all the time, and the story really stops trying to remain grounded. To the point where you can't even believe many aspects of the story anymore (mainly how the factions even still exist or succeed in anything considering their dumb choices) 76 just is a slot machine. You keep ramming money in the game.

One of the great features of fallout is that some of the areas are losely based on real locations. Each will have you visiting actual locations which have been hit so if you have been to some of these locations you may recognize some areas. There is also a lot of DLC content though I reccomend avoiding doing some of them since each acts as its own mini game seperate from the main story so some may deter your progress. You will meet plenty of amazing characters with some even being companions or love interests. Fallout 3 is a good start as you do not have enough experience with isometric gaming so it may not be your cup of tea. After that its off to the desert and the Old West reborn in the wonderful world of Fallout New Vegas. After that its finally time to hit the fallout equivalent of Dragonage Inquisition aka Fallout 4. That is where its best for you to end it after beating fallout 4. Fallout76 has none of the charm of its predecessors despite its lavish detail. My suggestion on this would be to wait on doing this until the start of the new year as you have still much on your plate and rushing from one game to the next without a decent ending is kind of disappointing as some people just love to see a happy ending. Best of luck and a little spoiler, there is a dog in every fallout game so you can always have a dog as a companion.
