This corrosive and cynical Big Lie of his has gone on for almost four years, and everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie. trump is almost never sarcastic, which requires a bit more intelligence and genuine wit than he possesses. He definitely would never admit in any tone that he lost anything unless he was letting his guard down for a moment and letting a bit of truth leak out. With so little fact-checking in real time, and the firehose of lies from trump, a few timely push-backs from the moderators is respectable. And as it was, trump was allowed to go over time, interrupt and talk over the moderators, and abuse the rules of the debate many times. The expert presenter said something about how changing perspective requires self-analysis and changing one's perspective of oneself. That their beliefs have become part of how they see themself as good and right. This introspection can be very difficult to do if it forces them to realize they actually haven't spent months or years being insightful and heroic. Potential self-image crisis, I guess, so avoidance and finger pointing is the self-protective default behavior. She said a way in can be to show interest in discussion and ask them to explain their POV (vs showing them science or facts - because they'll just say those are fake and brand you a liar). If they can be taken to the point where they realize they are talking in illogical circles and the dissonance becomes too obvious even to them then - maybe.
