Meike MK320 Flash Review (Neewer NW320)

This flash is elevated so on smaller cameras, you don't get a lens shadow like you do with the built-in flash. So for those of us with "unprofessional gear" like the Sony Alpha cameras - this small flash unit allows us to capture incredible photos that would be trash otherwise when using our larger lenses... your condescending attitude towards this product was felt loud and clear through this entire "review".

One thing you didn't mention is that this thing is a really cheap way to get a CLS/AWL commander. When I moved up from a D800E to D850, I missed not having the pop-up flash to use for fill in a pinch but more importantly, I missed not having an AWL commander. And I really didn't want to dedicate one of my bigger flashes to act as a commander because that meant pushing them into an on-camera position. The MK-320 has AWL master functionality and is way cheaper than something like an SU800 or the like. Sure, I could convert everything over to an RF setup with all the associated recievers added to my existing strobes. But if I want to travel relatively light, have a pinch-hitter fill-in that double-duties as an AWL commander, and do it on the cheap then this pretty much ticks the boxes.

Maybe you can help me solve a couple of doubts. I have a Nikon D7200 and I was planning to use the build in flash as Commander flash and a couple of Meike Mk320 acting as a twin macro flash (a cheaper version of the Meike MT24, and with led included). Can this flash act as master for a second mk320 slave flash? Is this flash working TTL wireless? Thank you very much in advance.

If I understand you correctly, you want to know if you can use one MK320 on the hotshoe and configure it to act as a commander for two other MK320s operating in remote mode. From an AWL capability standpoint, this should work. Although I only have one MK320, I have tested it seperately in full TTL mode as both an AWL remote and an AWL commander configuration with my Nikon flashes. The one thing that is uncertain for your particular application is the way your flashes would be positioned and if they have good optical line-of-sight to be triggered. If the remotes are positioned on a twin-arm mount like with the MT24 then their IR sensors which are located at the forward base of the flash's hot-shoe mount should have enough exposure to the commander to work.

@@jakekhuon7360 thank you for your reply! My intention is to use the CLS Commander Mode (that uses the build in flash), and two MK320 in remote on a twin-arm mount, so the IR sensors will have direct view with the build in flash.

That should work fine. I have triggered the MK320 in AWL/TTL remote mode using the built-in pop-up of my D800E and D300.

Good point about it about being redundant to get this flash if you have one built in. Aside from being able to bounce that is.... I have a mirrorless Nikon ZFC with no built in flash. Regular DSLR flashes work but are BIGGER than the camera body itself. So for traveling purposes, this is right up my ally.

The TTL mode does not work on Sony A7 ii. The also cannot work as a master, it works as slave. Hence it is fully manual.

i have a7iii and a good big flash. i got this for walking around with, and i'm experiencing this frustrating issue with ttl! how frustrating! can you explain how to 'know' if the flash is recognized by the camera? does it even work at all with my camera? any help would be appreciated

DeeJay Hi, I think he was saying unseat and reseat. It just means taking the camera off and putting it back on in attempt to get a better connection between the flash and the camera.

Great over view and it's true this flash it's not so different from the built-in on the camera thus at least the light coverage is basically the same, so I think it is better to spend a little bit more money and get a real flash

The Meike MK320 Nikon version does not work on a Nikon Z6 or Z7. Firmware update is only possible at the manufacturer. You have to ship to China :-(

I just got my Z7 yesterday... and was looking to this flash as lighter alternative to the bigger ones I have ... Did it worked after firmware updates?

I decided to give it a try and ordered one for my Z7 ... I wasn't expecting it to work but thought why not trying before goes to SB-300 ... Actually it worked with my Z7 and was able to read the iso and aperture in TTL mode ... when I start the camera the flash will lag for about 10 seconds and then start reading normally...

If your camera cant do HSS (like a Nikon D3200) then flash cannot.

Instead of testing your equipment, you should try to take some photographs. Taking pictures of junk around your apartment isn't a good way to test anything. Take portratis, real estate, etc. Your gross apartment makes gross photos in your dirty closet mirror - or talking about how you didn't seat it correct - what a waste of everyone's time. Youre not a photographer and you dont know how to make a youtube video.

From the perspective of a professional photographer, eh? Your example photos clearly show that you may have done a paid gig here or there, but your photography skills are not impressive. I don't want to put you down, but please don't show off and call yourself a "professional photographer, OK? Look, the small size is a *feature*. It is only GN32 and it is not meant to compete with full-size flashes. The full-size flashes that looks and works OK on a full-size DSLR would look ridiculous on a small mirrorless and make it very top-heavy. And that's what it this flash is made for = small mirrorless cameras. Are you aware of the Nikon SB-400? It's a similar approach. What we would have liked is an actual review of what the flash can do, not what you don't like. And thanks for pointing out HSS does not work... that's useful info.
