I saw Mekhi wrestle at Lehigh in a dual before Nationals, and I told everyone I knew that this kid had a motor and strength like I hadn't seen in years. When he was seeded 8th, I said he is my favorite to win it all. He did. So impressive. Can't wait until he comes back from his Olympic redshirt.

One of my favorite scenes in the entire 2019 NCAA wrestling championships was when Mekhi locked up that cradle. You saw him position his hands to do it, his coaches saw him do it, and the crowd definitely recognized him do it as it roared the second he got in position to lock his hands and drive through. His coach also went insane when he got that lock, “hit it, move move, you got it, YOU GOT IT.” You could tell Mekhi regardless of him wrestling aggressive or not, he was not afraid to take risks obviously seeing as he cradled the 2x NCAA champion

@Better_MMA
@Better_MMA 4 жыл бұрын
Adrian Baez 2 points for taking someone down 1 point for standing up if you get someone on their back or near like he did with the cradle you get an automatic amount of Point plus a max of 5 depending on how long u hold it if u stay on top for over a minute u get a point at the end of the match and if u get two stalling warnings your opponent gets a point it’s more complex than that put that’s some basic understanding
@kstogie
@kstogie 4 жыл бұрын
That's close, but you can't get 5 for nearfall. Taking someone down = 2 Escaping when someone is on top of you = 1 Reversal (when someone is on top of you and turn it around so you are on top) = 2 Nearfall (Holding someone on their back) = 2 if held for a 2-3 count, 4 if held for 4 count or longer. Those are the main scores, anyways. In this match, Lewis was on top at the beginning of the second period and locked up a cradle and held Joseph on his back for 4+ count so he received 4 pts. (if he would have gotten both of Joseph's shoulders on the mat for 1 full second, it would be a pin). Joseph then escaped for 1 pt. Score 4-1 at the end of the 2nd period. In the third period, Lewis was on bottom and escaped for 1 pt. and then scored a takedown at the end for 2 more. Final score 7-1.

Welcome to the most ancient and honorable of sports. The folks below did a very good job explaining. Greco-Roman, Freestyle and Folkstyle all have differences and I encourage you to look at all Highschool, NCAA, USA Wrestling and World Championships matches. This sport is the way people have tested combat skill, settled personal differences, learned respect and showed fellowship and I am excited that you are watching. Enjoy.
