Hey guys I followed this guide and wyvern lord byleth was so bad cause uh she did way less damage cause she can't use swords and everything doubled her. I tried paladin which could use swords but every time she leveled up she lost speed instead of gaining it! I made her into a swordmaster and used her to solo the game!!! She doubled everything, never got hit and with the combined 5% crit boost and swords using the POWERFUL astra she was invincible!!!

I know I'm a few days late for you to see this comment, but just so you know the ""About us" page is just a lie. Gamerant writers consist entirely of freelancers with a passion for video games and writing (often young people trying to break into the freelance business). It's owned by Valnet who have been in massive financial and structural turmoil over the last 2 years and many of their different sites (food sites, entertainment sites, game sites, etc) have a lot of the same contributors. Basically, what I'm saying is the article is probably written by some some 18 year old uni student who just finished their first playthrough on normal difficulty and got paid 25 CA$ for a day's work. I got an incredibly screwed Byleth in my current maddening playthrough. Level 41, Cha is the only stat above 31, and that's because I grinded tea parties. I used a few stat boosters as well, before I realized just how bad things were. Also got plenty of base state adjustments from certifications. On the other hand, I also got a Raphael with 35 speed, so I can't complain too much. She's... actually still a better wyvern lord than a fairly average Caspar? Convoy access is nice. Worse holy knight than Ferdinand, at least.

Legit, I think they're on to something. For Monk, at least. Less bad growth penalties to physical stats than mage or priest, might be a neat place to stay for characters who want to hang on to their heal spell, but aren't actually mages.

@@nightwish1453 Yeah. - Blow skills are always good, the regen/sustainability skills are good, and making a debuff character to poop out debuffs to all stats are pretty good, but frankly, outside of a few standouts, your characters probably aren't getting very different skills from what they have by the time they're first setting foot into their Advanced Classes, until they get Movement and Range increases.

Mekkah. tbf with tea time, it also gives you cha. once you start to use the green house to farm flowers/stat boosters, dining hall becomes kinda redundant since you can just give your students motivation back with the flowers. and the leftover activity points can be spent on byleth weaponr ranks + tea time. you can get a total of +2 permanent cha per month for byleth and other units involved. this quickly adds up and is useful for hitting/ avoiding enemy gambits later on. tea time is effectively spending 500 gold + 1 activity point for a cha stat booster. which is nice.

The bad wording of this also threw me off so hard. After deciphering it I think it means Byleth's naturally high speed helps pull of the Sniper class better... which is not necessarily true either, if anything it's one of the classes where your speed could be zero and you'd do an amazing job.

They playtested the game at least once in each gender (?) and female byleth, having access to pegasus knight, promptly took that class, and stuck with it, securing a noticable difference in growths (at the sad sacrifice of the sword of the creator, totally incompatible, unfortunately) Male Byleths didn't get pegasus knight to centralize their levels, and so had no discernable stat trend. Eh?

I read a post on Reddit the other day where someone went on a long rant about how much they hated Three Houses, and when pressed for details as to why, the OP said they have trouble articulating why and only shared details you could glean from watching a trailer. They clearly never actually played the game and were ragging on it based on very little information. These GameRant guides feel like that. They probably got some marketing materials and wrote a "guide" based entirely on that and some images they Googled, but never actually played the game. Also, the most ridiculous part is that the second guide is about female Byleth, but none of the images have her in it. Even the few images that do have Byleth in them just have the male version.

Real talk, Commoner/Noble is one of four classes in the game that can use both fists and magic. Enlightened One and Dancer are locked to one unit, so for everyone else it's between Mortal Savant, and Commoner/Noble, and I think commoner actually wins that one. Barely.

You only need like 2 perfect tea times to recruit any unit once you have a C support w them. So I totally agree with it being useful. You can get at least one unit every month easily with it. paired with gifts from the secret merchants and flowers from gardening makes it even easier and faster.

I know that the "Recruiting Professors being the worst" part is bull because every professor or knight is an auto recruit in the case of seteth and flayn, an easy level requirement for Catherine, Shamir, and Cyril, or a chapter requirement for Alois, Hanneman, and Manuela. If Gamerant was informed like they say they are, then they'd know this. (This has been a tiny rant by me.)

I didn't think stealth for assassins was THAT bad, especially since it's a class skill, not a contested generic slot. It seemed to work very well when set up with an over the top dodge tank or armor. They can do whatever they want as a detached unit from your main force, where you can reliably set it up where your tank is always targeted, and the fragile unit is untouchable on enemy phase to help deal with things like enemy battalions. It's not some mind blowing skill, but it does enables some fun tactics.

I can think of a few. Overemphasizing class growths: They are rarely more than +/- 10% in a given direction, adding up to maybe 5 points over a playthrough. Putting Lorenz in cavalier for 5 or even 10 levels doesn't screw his casting ability, putting Raphael in priest because you need a frontline healer doesn't mean he'll never beat a man to death again. This is especially silly, because the greenhouse exists. If you're that nervous about cavalier's -10% speed, then just grow them a damn carrot. Recruiting as many people as possible: You can field like, what, 15 people on the very last map? 12 is the biggest I remember on a normal map, and that's rare. Usually it's 10. Level 15, non-tutored Ingrid is not helping you post timeskip unless you need a decoy. On that note, unaddressed Fire Emblem pitfall in general. Not using unit deaths productively. Using a garbage unit to lure an ambush spawn away from your main squad is a good thing. Overemphasizing specialties, weapon types, and "cannon" classes: The number of people who have not enjoyed Dark Knight Lysithea just because she has a weakness in lances saddens me. Lysithea with 8 move, canto, and 5 range should be experienced by all. The people trying to go through maddening who don't have every other member of their team with faith ranks and priest, just because "Raphael isn't a mage, and Hubert has a weakness in faith!" also sadden me. Imagine if a heal spell was always at your fingertips? The number of people who insist that Felix and Catherine don't improve past Swordmaster, just because they can't get past this person being a swordsman make me sad. Imagine if they knew the joy that holy knight Catherine, or Wyvern Lord Felix brought to the table? Basically, a lot of "this unit sucks at ____, so I won't even touch them with ____". I wonder how many people don't know that units get full motivation from food that isn't their favorite? That also kinda ties in to the idea of units having a designated "class", or a class fundamentally changing what a unit does. Like Raphael being an armor knight and brawler, and not using him as an armor knight or brawler is dumb, or like changing Raphael to a priest or mage means he's suddenly a backline unit who can't survive enemy phase. Probably something about trying to do everything possible while exploring, and never even considering just doing a seminar because you're bored and impatient. People got things to do, and a month can take 2 hours or 6, your choice. Probably something about getting every ore from monsters. No, that piece of Umbral Steel isn't going to help you anymore than the other 20 rotting in your convoy, just kill the thing and move on. This applies double if you fall into the pitfall of hoarding. You REALLY don't need that mythril if you were never gonna use Hautreclere anyways. Probably something about not using Stride, Impregnable Wall, or the counter one, just because they aren't attacks. Especially when characters like Lindheart exist. Hoarding Gambits. You know someone out there does it. Probably something about always mastering a class, even when that class's mastery bonus sucks. Not using bows. Bows are so good in 3H. Iron Bow+ on every character that isn't a mage, no questions.

@@AkameGaKillfan777 Felix is just a great unit, no matter where you put him (maybe not a caster, but, uh, Bishop Felix is still stronk, just... don't count on Nosferatu). That's where the pitfall is in my mind. Felix doesn't stop being Felix because you put him in a "weird" class. Classes are lists of bonuses and proficiencies you are giving a character temporary access to, not a fundamental change to that character. Assuming Swordmaster Felix is the "norm", putting Felix in War Master isn't a fundamental rebuild of Felix as a character, it's trading Swordfaire for bonus crit, and a no questions asked effective combat art. Putting Felix in Sniper is trading swordfaire for +1 bow range. Putting Felix in Bishop is trading Swordfaire and a bit of crit, Gauntlets and Onagers, and 1 move for access to spells and magic orbs. These trades may or may not be ideal for a given strategy you have in mind, but at no point does Felix stop filling the basic role Felix has filled for you up to this point. It doesn't really matter what weapon, or what class he's been using to get there, if that makes sense. The only exception is taking a mage out if a magic class, but even then, Levin Swords, Bolt Axes, and Magic Bows exist, mitigating even that exception, and even get 3 range if you upgrade them. Assassin Lysithea still hits like an absolute truck.

@@aprinnyonbreak1290 When I made Felix and Petra Assassins, he was dealing 15 more damage to enemies, AT THE SAME LEVEL. I've abandoned making Petra an Assassin because she always gets strength screwed. Even just going Swordmaster makes a big difference for actually doing damage.

"Lose speed over time" In fairness, this could be construed to mean that Paladins, by virtue of low speed growths, lose speed relative to enemy benchmarks over time, because they don't keep up as they level. I really doubt that's actually true, but I think the concept isn't quite as dumb as the less charitable interpretation that the actual number will decrease over time.

Fishing a handful of times to get stat boosting fish for meals isn't too bad. On maddening, auxiliary battles are kinda necessary, otherwise certain maps will smack you. But otherwise, yeah. "Optimizing" your free days has the makings of a pitfall, I think. It takes a ton of time, when you could just eat with everyone who isn't motivated, or even just hit a seminar if you really dgaf, and still have perfectly good units.

If you genuinely want to do it, then great, good for you. If you don't want to, then feeling like you have to, otherwise you're "missing out" on potential in your characters, is 100% a pitfall. It's in the same vein as not using Jaegans, because they steal exp, or hoarding, because that silver lance is going to be useful one day. These things seem like good ideas, you feel like you're outplaying the game to get everything available to you, but they aren't necessary. Pitfalls are more psychological constructs that stick in the brain of the player, that prevent you from just having fun, and force you to play the game in particular ways, in the case of FE, this is often related to resource optimization. Yes, it technically helps, but by such small, unnecessary amounts, that it's not worth your time and suffering to do it.

Over optimising by fishing fulfils the first part, but unlike the examples you listed from other games it does make the game easier, so it doesent meet the requirements for a pitfall.

Good answer give you I think 1 arrowfor each doesn't it + a perfect tea session gives 2 arrows at the end (been a while since I played so please correct if I remember it wrong). That's actually a reasonable one. Just because you rank up a weapon for a class doesn't mean it's what you should use, On that note, swords aren't bad in 3H, because handaxes and javelins suck, Iron Bow+ is amazing, cheap, and usable at E-rank, and trading exists. Axe and spear users should use Iron Bow+, too.

Her magic growths got pached up yhanks to class mods, but the worst thing about her was that her Hp was so shit. I finished with byleth at 40 and she only had 40ish hp. I pretty much made her an evade tank with her white magic talent and her good luck and speed.

I actually had my Byleth as a Fortress Knight before watching this, along with Marianne on VW Maddening. And it's like everyone forgets Lys gets Warp making their slow movement null and void entirely. Making them just duo most maps due to Byleth's natural tankiness and Marianne's naturally high Res allows her to still take little to no damage from magic. It was a shitpost idea at first, but sue me it's FUN tossing a couple 200 lbs of thicc girls in to the middle of entire armies and watching them struggle to tickle them

I don't get why this guide even discusses Warlock class for Byleth. It's an advance class and not a master class (and I won't even mention Myrmidon). I have used Gremory Byleth when I picked BL and I could easily send her and Dimitri to the other side of the map since they were able to nuke anyone easily. As much as I like Locktouch, it really is useless when you can just buy keys whenever you want and you can access convoy via Byleth in case you forgot to give anyone a chest key.

Fishing is something you can sink a little bit of time in for jumpstarting your professor level right of the bat. It can easily make a difference between having that additional action point/tutoring slot in the next week or not. So for anyone min maxing professor levels early, save scum for Herring Bait each month and hope for additional bait spawns. And of course more actions points = more prof exp so it goes up exponentially. But this is a very min max thing to do and not at all necessary. Especially since you need to save scum for large/platinum/divine fishies which can be either very quick or take... a bit.

20:00 I personally recruit everyone I can because I dont like killing characters I've interacted with. However, only characters I find that fit my team will be used. This is why I often have Raphael sitting on the bench the entire game. Sure he has rally strength and can be good with gauntlets, I just have a hard time fitting him on my team when better rally bots and better offensive units exist, imo. However I will say that pretty much every unit in three houses has a role or multiple roles they can be built for that they excel at.

The alternating between best and worst list format isn't all that uncommon actually. For example, Yahtzee Crowshaw (aka the Zero Punctuation guy) has been doing it for a long time. It's just that lists that contain both the best and worst of something aren't too common so there aren't as many opportunities for it to show up, but when a list does do best and worst in one thing this format is pretty common. This is still a little weird though because these sort of lists normally keep track of whether something is the 3rd best or 2nd worst rather than just labeling things 1 through 10.

early faculty training in faith and reason is pretty good as byleth can't train magic in battle until they reach rank d and actually learn a spell to use in combat. these days the sauna is pretty much the top priority for the first sunday of the month as it boost exp from instruction/faculty training/advanced drills for the entire month. It's not too hard to get 100+ extra exp a month for your core units from the sauna. it turns out some students are better recruited late game due to them scaling off of classes they wouldn't if you recruited them. for example ingrid has a %50 strength growth before recruiting her but that drops down to a base of 35% once you recruit her. For most students they will use the enemy's growth rates rate for their canon class. Ingrid is good to recruit late as she scales off pegasis knight. lorenz is a good choice to recruit early as he scales based off cavalier which is bad if you wanted to make him a mage. Cyril however should be recruited asap as he scales terribly due to his canon class being villager.

I'll kinda give them the benefit of the doubt with "it's not clear which professors you can recruit" cause the game wasn't that old, but at the same time it's a guide. They clearly probably only played Crimson Flower, which doesn't let you use like half of the staff/Flayn and assuming that to all the routes are the same. I only do fishing on days where you get multiple fish, and if I'm close to a level up. Sometimes it takes a while, and I agree it's tedious so I load up a podcast or something. Even then on days with a lot of fish I just stop fishing when each bait is a multiple of 5. I half agree with the notion that recruiting everyone ruins one of the things that makes Three Houses great. Before the game was released, I read you could only get 2-3 maybe 4 characters from another house, so you'd have to manage your time and choose wisely. However, I was disappointed to find you can pretty easily get everyone, even without ng+. Like it's nice for those people who want to do that, but again the games about how war tears people apart, and choices. Ironically, I'd think the people who like recruiting everyone would agree with that.
