Just enjoying a weekend up at SunPeaks BC with the family; got the WiFi going and now to crochet this hat whilst the guys are up on the hill...so far, so good...using CARON Chunky Cake in "6" Color:: Rice Pudding (Smoky Grey and cream/beige)...the "N" hook...LOVE ribbing look for the band...good stretch...may do pom pom if I have enough yarn (297 yards in this skein)...or the homemade faux fur poms that my mom is making me!

I just made this hat and believe me, it is beginner friendly. I had a couple of glitches but could figure them out, having made other hats. I made mine with 9 rows of shells, either my big head or different yarn (it said it was chunky 6) was to blame! But it’s really cute! Thank you ❤️

You can always simply double up your yarn and use two strands at once to get the chunky weight. I just did a blanket using this technique and it worked perfectly. It's so nice and warm, and the best part is that I didn't have to buy any yarn for it because I was able to use what I had.

I do that all the time. I never buy bulky yarn. I double up my 4 weight yarn and use a large hook. It's nice and warm.

I should also note that you can totally do the pattern with a lighter weight yarn as well, without doubling up. You just need to use the hook size that the yarn calls for and your count will be significantly different. But because of the way the pattern works, you can use any size of yarn to make it.

For all my fellow blind crocheters. When she starts the second row of the hat she starts saying "chain two chain two" alot. This is not actually chaining two. She is doing a double crochet and saying that instead of "pull through two" instructing how to perform the double crochet stitch. The pattern remains the same as the first row. Two double crochets two chains followed by two double crochets in the same stitch.

How many rows did you do the band? When you measured the band, how many inches was the length?

Luwanda Artrelle mine is about 19/20 inches, it’s best to measure around your head if you can. I also have a common size chart on my blog if you are making it for someone else :)
