Thank you, Mel, did not know that it is best breaking down the brushing into so many smaller steps. I believe they are necessary to ensure long term ease on both sides :)

Thanks. There's so much conflicting advice online and it's nice to see a practical approach demonstrated plus the advice about when it's best to stop and just clip a knot out.

What's the best way to train your dog to enjoy the process? My havanese just really hates it. We keep his coat short
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kate, the best way is to start small, just doing a couple on minutes each day and reward when they are being good. It can be difficult at first but with time and patients he will get used of it. Try and make it fun and positive .

Nice Job Melanie , it seems like a long process. I have a golden doodle and there is knots in those common areas as well. How do you know if the knots and matting are to much ? And to say when to have the haircut. Also with these semi hairy kinds of dog how often should the hair be combed or brushed?
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials2 жыл бұрын
if your dogs coat is consistently getting knots or the knots are too hard to brush out and its hurting your dog, I would cut the coat to make it more comfortable. So sorry for the late reply, I missed your comment.

Thank you, such useful information. Questions: 1- how long did/does it take for the pre-bath brushout including some matt removal? 2-how long did/does it take for the after-bath brushout?
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials Жыл бұрын
my apologies for not seeing your question sooner. Depends on how many knots are in the coat. I usually spend from 10 minutes to 30 minutes to brush out before the bath and about 10-15 minutes after the coat is dried. I like to take my time so the dog does not get stressed.

Hello, I use it when I brush our dogs. As it will help keep the coat hydrated and assist in Removing knots and tangles. I brush my dogs twice a week. 💗

Thank you for the demo, I have a Muli-Poo that HATES to be brushed and grooming of any kind. She loves to dig in the mud, not a girly girl of a dog she is very much a Tomboy she has that Maltese hair but it is also curly because of the Poodle. What can I do, she will run under the bed, honestly I think she can read my mind. She shakes throught the entire bathing process so I have broken up her bath and grooming. She is 8½ and has had a broken back, with surgery when she was about 3. I love her so much I just feel like I am torturing her. 😞 any suggestions?

Hello, Thank you for your question. It can be so hard on the dog when they have had an injury. If it was my dog I would keep her in a short haircut, so its easy to bath and take care of her. Keeping her in a shorter hairstyle will reduce the amount of times you will have to brush her, and may make the bathing and drying process easier for her and you. do you clip her yourself or take her to the groomer?

@MLinda McCarth my Bichon Chester doesn’t like to be on the table, I brush him every night when he’s tired he lies on my knee with his head on a pillow I brush one side of him then turn him over to do the other side, I have found spending 15 mins per night on him keeps his coat mat free, you could try it your pooch may just prepare being on your knee to be brushed, hope it works for you xx

Question. Do you brush her and clear knots in the direction as on your video (away from you) or do you turn her facing you (when not video taping)? Thank you. My Chinese Crested knots hourly it seems. I hate shaving them out and leaving her naked skinned. Thank you!

Dear Melanie, I am seeking an advice on what conditioner and comb/tool to buy for my 2 year old Moodle to make it easier to brush him between grooming. His hair is currently long and a bit matted. I’m watching your KZbin channel in which you recommended conditioner for combing but Thera are 3 types of this. Our dog doesn’t like the slicker and we are wondering if our slicker wasn’t properly made. Do you have a shop front? We are thinking of taking our dog to your shop for grooming, Thanks in advance for your help.
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials3 жыл бұрын
Hi Thuy, most dogs will not like getting brushed to begin with. You may need to try grooming small areas at a time to help condition and teach your dog the grooming process. Try brushing an area that has no knots and then once your dog is ok with that, then move to another area. Try using this coat conditioning spray - melanienewman.com.au/collections/the-relax-collection/products/relax-coat-conditioning-spray-250-ml?variant=31529167552581 and this slicker - melanienewman.com.au/collections/grooming-products/products/artero-slicker-with-protective-pins?variant=39897422987460 Do you have a metal comb? Grooming out knots can be hard for some dogs to process, as they will relate grooming to a negative experience and we would like grooming to be a positive experience. Here are some tips that may help- - groom you dog in the same position/area all the time. This will help your dog understand what is about to happen. - Reward the good behaviour, don’t finish with your dogs crying or biting. Finish when your dog is happy and content, this may be a deliberate finish time. - Groom small areas and for 2-5 minutes and then work up from there. - try not to bath your dog with knots as the water and shampoo can compact the knots and tangles and make them worse. - try and make grooming a fun time, this is something that you will have to help teach your dog with positive experiences not negative. - Try and brush your dog everyday to help condition him to the grooming process. I hope this helps, please let me know how you go 🌸
