1) I'm from Norway, but I have a small percentage of Austrian/German in me :P Haven't taken any tests (yet), but my grandma told me a lot about it when she was alive ^_^ 2) And yes, I've felt lonely. Feeling lonely is rough, but luckily I'm not feeling lonely right now :)

I'm 60.6 % British/ Irish 11.2% French/ German 11.1% Scandinavian 16.9 Broadly northwest European O.1 percent broadly European 0.1 broadly east african I think we have all felt lonely at some time or another. I love the idea of bringing up the topic because we sometimes can easily trick ourselves into believing that we are different from other humans, but i think if you've ever felt something, chances are most people have felt that way too💚💚💚

I am from California, USA and I have definitely felt lonely before. I also have my Ancestry DNA information. So wild! It connected me to my sister, mom, and 2nd, 3rd, and 4th cousins right away with names we all recognized. Amazing! Also... I am 10% Irish. Hehe! 💚 63% England, Wales, and Northwestern Europe, 10% Norway, and 8% Finland were my other top results. I was surprised because my great grandmother Mary and her family and her husband's family were 2 generations in Portugal but I found out through this DNA that they must not have been that much Portuguese because I only had 4% Iberian Peninsula with more confidence in Spain than Portugal.

It’s so weird because I’ve always only wanted 0-1 children but after being at my grandmothers house and seeing all of my cousins running around and seeing how my grandmother always has her children/grandchildren visiting her, it makes me want an absurd amount of children so I they always visit me when I’m older

Love this video Mel! Sending love from Perth, Australia! Thank you for helping destigmatize so many important matters. I have suffered with my mental health for about 8 years, and with that for me comes feelings of intense loneliness. I am currently feeling the most free and happy than I have ever felt and I'm a single mum to a gorgeous little girl, however I am pretty lonely! Me and my family moved from England 8 years ago so I don't have much family close by and don't have a friendship group here either which doesn't help. However I have more love in my heart than ever! Thanks for this video! 😀

Hi! I am from America, specifically the south, Alabama. I currently live in Kentucky. I am Irish/ English and a little Italian! Yes, I have struggled with feeling lonely. I used to not be able to be alone for more than an hour or so... I went through a divorce and found that I actually love me!!! It took therapy and lots of reflection but I now know that it is ok to be a lone sometimes. I still have moments that I feel alone but I generally am alright. I am remarried to an awesome man who wants me to be the best me I can be and he has helped me so much to navigate through tough times! I am loved for just me, as I am right this minute! Anyway, Melanie, I absolutely love your content and wish you the best life! Keep fulfilling your purpose!!! xo

This is a brilliant video, really got me thinking. I’m from South London (DNA is Uk, Ireland and Norway) and I was thinking that loneliness hasn’t always appeared to me as being on my own but sometimes just feeling like the people around me have different interests or are at different stages of their lives so there’s that lack of relatability. I would hate to be without family though, that must be a really tough sort of loneliness.

Thanks for such a fun video! I love when your Dad makes an appearance! 😂 I’m from the US and I’ve used a DNA test (not ancestry but MyHeritage) and a lot of us Americans don’t have much or any Native American so my percentages were a lot more spread out lol. And a huge portion of my DNA is Ireland/Scotland/Wales but I already knew my great grandparents on my paternal grandma’s side were Irish immigrants. I had my doubts too, but I’m half Filipino and figured if they caught that they would be fairly legit- and they totally did, they just don’t have much of a breakdown for the Philippines. Anyways thanks for the lovely intro about how we perceive others to be happier and more fulfilled-- I’m pretty level headed and sometimes I find myself falling into that mind-trap. I get lonely sometimes but I’m usually pretty happy in my own company. I guess I just hate feeling like I’m struggling alone to swim in a sea that would rather swallow me than help me float. Most of the time I’m bobbing along trying to see the best in things and hoping for a desert island to get marooned on, and sometimes I feel like bad things keep happening but only ever to me (slightly narcissistic but there ya go) and everyone else is cruising by on boats and yachts and I’ve got 5 year old learn-to-swim floaties and am at the merci of the waves. 😂😁 Aw, yes. The glory of an extended metaphor. But yeah, it’s a good reminder to check oneself whilst throwing personal pity parties... just because things aren’t great doesn’t mean there’s no bright side and no hope for better. I hope everyone that’s feeling lonely can find at least one person to talk to. It’s amazing how having someone to chat with can make such a difference!

MAGNI Of course! I was talking more recent heritage, my great grandfather was born in Belfast. I believe there was Scotia a queen of Ireland as well? It interesting how there can still be prejudice against Scots with more recent Irish heritage, especially in the highlands. I know people who have changed there second name ‘Mc’ to ‘Mac’ to get employed more. I find it silly as most of the Scots heritage is Irish whether it’s recent or not!

@@robynmc24 They were told that there were never Irish there!, that the original Scots were not Irish. But, of course, the Irish were there/are there. DNA shows that (much of North and western Scotland has Irish DNA). Its peculiar to see people with Irish looks not having a clue about it!

My family background is mostly Latvian and Russian. I'm an only child living with just my mum. My grandparents moved to Ireland a few years after I was born. It's nice to have them, I know so many people grow up with shit family or no family at all but I can't help but wish I had a sister or a brother or even if I lived in Latvia where most of my family is. It does get boring and lonely sitting in an empty house but I'm still incredibly grateful for my life and the family I do have.

Hi! I'm Portuguese and lived in Dublin for 11 years. In july it will be a year since I moved to Portugal and now I am living in Northern Portugal (I'm from lisbon) and I have never experience this amount of loneliness in my life. Between Dublin and Portugal I went solo travelling for 3 months and though I was alone I only experienced lonliness very rarely. I now have a job but feel very disconnected and lonely...maybe because its hard to settle and connect with a new country even though it's my "own". I feel very different from the people who live up here and I miss all my friends back in Ireland. Funny your video was uploaded today as this week has been particularly hard. I’m Australian (my dad is Canadian and my grandfather is Dutch) and I have definitely really struggled with loneliness since moving out on my own. I do enjoy and value my own personal time. But like Melanie said, I’ve found it hard to feel like I make an impact in the works and really struggle to reach out and further develop my interests and meet similar minded people. I’ve started making more positive steps towards though and am making a more conscious effort to connect to the people that mean most to me! Trying to value experiences and life! Thanks so much for the video! Very reflective and thought provoking! 💚💚💚💚

1. Russian 2.i think I feel lonely very rarely because of how close I am with my friends. It happens sometimes though. I enjoy my alone time, but can't comprehend how people are dealing with constant/strong loneliness... Loved this video!! You always make stuff that I want to watch fully and listen to with genuine interest. and so I always do! 💚

From the U.S, more specifically Oregon, not sure what my dads side is, but my moms side is Mexican. Moved to Hawaii 4 months ago for a job and boy is it a bit of a struggle to not feel lonely. Thankfully there is this little hole in the wall studio that sets up jazz jam nights every week that I'm able to sit in on and play the drums, it has gotten me connected with some of the nicest people as we talk about music. Hopefully some of these connections turn into friendships.

Hi great video Melanie! 😃 I have felt lonely in periods, even though I have friends and family nearby but I think the worst thing for my loneliness is not having any lgbtq friends.. That is why I love watching your videos and other gay youtubers’ videos- it kills the loneliness a little bit. 💚

I've definitely struggled alot with really isolating feelings of loneliness and depression off and on in my life the last few years, I think I really realized it when i started avoiding spending time with ppl I cared about and had many negative thoughts about myself and people i loved. It's scary when your loneliness hits the point of isolating yourself. The very thing that helps with relief is what you avoid. It even got to where I would be in a large group of people I knew and felt like I no longer could connect and felt alone even surrounded by loads of people. Also I had an extremely difficult time leaving friends or family after sharing meaningful amounts of time together, when I would go home I would feel so painfully alone. It's taken alot of work on myself and trying to undue the damaging things I've ingrained into my way of thinking but slowly it's gotten better but it's always an active battle! ❤

Wow that's amazing !!! You're almost 100% Irish... I'm from Israel (my mom is morrocan and my father is french) . He did the dna test and the results were amazing.. he is 53 % Irish and British (same as you).. so now when I look at Irish people I'm like " oh we are probably family" hahaha.. because Ireland's population is so small . Lovely! Looove your channel btw

This is so interesting because I’m 100% English! My family never moved from the south of England 😂 but we have a small but exceptionally close and loving family. We all live very far apart now (brother and his kids moved to Australia 5 years ago) but when we catch up nothing has changed. Living close to family has never been important until I’ve started trying for my own family and want to stay near to my parents

I'm from America, although the rest of my family is from England. I guess I am lonely. My best friend of 8 years moved to the Czech republic a couple of years ago and I think I've never really let myself find anyone else or get as close to someone as I am with her. She means the world to me and we still contact each other, but time zones and general busyness keeps us apart. I've never been too social and every single one of my friends came from them introducing themselves to me. Sorry for the rant 😂💚

I'm from the northern part of New York (the Adirondack region of New York in the USA haha). I've suffered from loneliness ever since my husband and I moved to Utah where we don't have any family or close friends. It's incredibly difficult to make and maintain friendships as an adult. :( I used the Ancestry DNA test and found out (well, affirmed haha) that I have a lot of European blood mixed with Native American. Not a huge surprise there, but there were a few unexpected parts of Europe where my ancestors are from. My grandma is really big on genealogy and learning about the family, but that only gave me info on my mom's side of the family. I'm guessing all those unexpected bloodlines were from my dad's side, which I know nothing about. Anyway, I love how you paired DNA and unexpected family with loneliness. Very interesting video!

I'm from Sweden, hej hej! And I have definitely had times when I've felt lonely. Now that all my friends are scattered all over the country it is harder to see everyone. And even with the people close to me, I still feel lonely sometimes, which is perfectly normal! And if you are someone that often feels lonely, maybe join a club/organisation/class and meet some new people! I've also been getting into "friend-dating", and have made a new friend that lives right in my town :)

I'm Swedish, with brown hair and hazel eyes, and all my life everyone has been like "buT yOU dON't loOK swEDIsh". Ummm we're not all blonde and tall with blue eyes... I think all outcomes would be really interesting!

Bullying sucks and everyone tells you, oh you will get over it, just wait till your an adult. Nah i am 47 and still have to tell myself it was all bs and I am fine. Just know you are fine, and they were jerks, being autistic just means you see the world in a different way and honestly there is NOTHING wrong with that. The world needs folks with unique sight.

@@aliciavelice3806 SO TRUE! It is difficult to separate other peoples views of you from the reality of who you actually are sometimes. There's always difficult days when I forget that it's all lies (even if it wasn't at the time) because I was barely a teenager and have changed a lot and learnt a lot. People like to hold mistakes over you when you're that age but as you get older you realise everyone changes and everyone makes mistakes. There's always certain comments that stick though. Getting diagnosed recently has helped an awful lot though since before I just thought I was crazy!

Hi Melanie, I love your content! I did the ancestry DNA test and I got 58% English and Northwestern European (all Northern England - I’m from Yorkshire and my paternal side has been here since forever), 40% Ireland and Scotland, and 2% Swedish. Very interesting and I found a 4th cousin I didn’t know existed. My maternal great grandparents and ancestors were from Ireland, so not surprised how Irish I was haha! The Swedish part was my early ancestry. I would love to try another dna test too. In terms of whether I’ve felt lonely I definitely have before, but I think everyone has at some point in their lives. X

My grandpa grew up in the north-east part of Poland. His father had 7 siblings, whom one of emigrated to the USA in the 20s'. My grandpa hold on to one picture that enabled me to find them this year through Facebook but with the help of ancestry records in Pennsylvania. The joy it brought my grandpa, the oh so many people we connected with... it is unbelievable!. In 1993 my family wrote letters through the Red Cross and wasn't able to find anybody... It took me and the Internet TWO HOURS.

💚 I'm from Hungary and I also want to do this test. I think a little part of me is Asian because Hungarians came from Asia a thousand year ago. I didn't know I was lonely until I met my lovely boyfriend two months ago. Oh boy, now I know how lonely I was. I feel that a big part of me was hidden but now it's free. It's funny because I've always been very independent but now in a relationship with him I feel freer and more myself.

I'm from the United States, specifically New York, but my roots are mainly Irish, but also English, Italian, and French-Canadian. I often feel lonely, as well. I do have a lot of people in my life that I'm close to and I'm very thankful for that. Although there are many times when I wish there were more people I could relate to on a personal level. Just remember mates: the more you are authentically yourself, the fewer friends you have. It is better to be yourself and have a few friends who love you for you, than being fake to make everyone happy, and have a bunch of acquaintances.

Papa Murphy haha ❤️ I‘m from Germany but my father is Scottish and Irish, so that‘s part of me too 😊 of course I feel lonely every now and then, as you said, being alone is part of the human experience and it can be amazing but sometimes it just doesn’t. It is actually something that comes in therapy a lot and something I work on continuously- that it‘s okay to feel lonely, but that it can be nice to be alone AND that I am lucky to not really be lonely as I have so many lovely people in my life. 🌷
