When the metro tunnel opens, does that mean Pakenham and Cranbourne trains do not go to South Yarra anymore or do some services just go directly to flinders street and some use the metro tunnel? And one more about the suburban loop, so when the rail loop is opened in 2030, will there be another tunnel built at sunshine station for the airport rail and a new green train running services in it? I really wanna know also I had a cool idea. The Ringwood East and Croydon sites are both pretty chaotic at the moment, but the Skyrail supports in progress make Croydon look worse. The Metro tunnel is a big waste of money. The ONLY extra capacity it will provide is by taking the Sunbury line out of the Northern loop. The Caulfield, Sandy and Newport groups of lines already have their own dedicated tracks that they don't share with other lines - the tunnel just means they will use different lines but it won't increase capacity. The Burnley and Clifton Hill group won't be affected at all. And most people who work in St Kilda Rd or up at the uni will keep using the trams because they will be faster, more frequent, and a lot more convenient. The sad thing is there was a better way - by altering the portals to the existing city loop they could have redirected trains to run from Richmond to North Melbourne via Parliament and Flagstaff and acheived MORE extra capacity, and it would have cost a lot less and been finished years ago. The level crossing removal project is of very little benefit to trains - it is for improving roads. There is no limit to how many trains you can run through a level crossing, it just means the booms stay down longer. Not saying they shouldn't remove them, but it should not be painted as a 'green' public transport improvement, it should be called what it is, a roads project, and be paid for out of the road budget and not the public transport budget.

The level crossing removals are primarily about being able to increase the frequency and reliability of trains running, without impact to road traffic. Safety is only a small part of it. Simply saying “people are the problem” doesn’t make much sense. By that logic…I could build a giant hole in the ground and watch people fall in, while saying people are the problem and the hole looks nice.

it only depends on the person who decides to drive carelessly in my opinion some of those train and driver accidents were caused by the driver of that car. level crossings at stations should not be dangerous as trains really dont go to fast when leaving or entering a station i get what you mean when you said that. but i was saying basically my opinion

I thought Melbourne was broke? Dont you need money to finish these projects or is the state debt just going to become even more astronomical

Having debt and being "broke" are two different things. In your world, having a mortgage means you are broke.

Alas, most of them aren't worth the budget spent on propaganda. The misnamed tunnel isn't a metro, and is undersignalled, and bizarrely doesn't have a station at South Yarra. The new trains are in no sense useful, and simply repeat the badly-designed misnamed 'high capacity' trains. The new stations as part of level-crossing removals are bleak and harsh: grey steel and concrete. LXRP hates greenery, and that shows in its lack of landscaping, left to die as the budget runs out. What we never get is 'turn up and go' services, or convenient interchanges. PTV hasn't learned anything from the 1850s break of gauge disaster: a new lot of incompatibility.

Hates greenery? Every skyrail Ive been to has tons of open and pleasant space underneath. I do agree metro tunnel should have had an underground station at South Yarra. And new trains are good as some our trains are old.

are you sure there was a lot of community support for parkdale trenchrail? i ask because there were complaints about skyrailing the line around murrumbeena. they even had a yt channel. unfortunately, they had only had 8 views when i went to the channel and i'm a skyrail fan. there were complainers about a skyrail near the mordialloc creek. it is possible but incredibly difficult to do trenchrail through a creek. you cant plant native trees in the trench. native trees bring native wildlife. losers!

skysails are simply terrible. Either keep the road at grade or the rail and one should go under. Building these monstrosities blocking out the sun from their neighbours is a complete and utter joke. The Government putting up pretty pictures of parks (cough) under these monstrosities to save money is a joke. Gee, I wonder why Surry Hills/Mont Albert wasn't simply built as a sky bridge? Because people with money would never stand for it! Look at the difference between the Box Hill to Canterbury rail corridor to the, well let's just say the whole line out to Dandenong from Caulfield. Ok I live in the inner East so I'm happy but those in the South East surly are appalled given the infrastructure that was built on the Eastern line - hell even Bayswater went under! Simply terrible and we'll have to put up with it for at least another 100 years. Enjoy my Great Grand children!

Have you actually been to a completed skyrail anywhere? The Coburg one is loved and the new open space, parks and play areas get massive use. I'm so glad they're extending all the way down through Brunswick.

There are part elevated rail lines in Sydney and Brisbane. Rail on viaducts looks okay to me. Viaducts are safer than level crossings. I don't live in Melbourne so I will have to come on down and have a look.

You might be shocked by this but, Skyrail wasn't built at Mont Albert because it is on top of a hill. Same reason its not being built at Bedford Rd or Ringwood East, they are on top of hills. Honestly, some people

In a trench there is no usable space under or over the train line. With skyrail there is space for parks, carparking, play areas. Too expensive to build tunnels.
@dylanshadowstar977911 ай бұрын
1: have you ever been under skyrail such as between Caulfield and Clayton? It's beautiful with peaceful paths and parks. 2: ride a train, on skyrail you see vast views. In a trench you grey ugly walls.
