Arrow: Oh, How I hate Oliver Queen

I finally finished the two and a half season of Arrow...mainly because of the Flash. Oliver Queen is the WORST!

I hate Oliver Queen and I hate how the fans give him a free pass for all his mistakes because he's supposedly good looking (I don't see the appeal tbh) and because 'he's just complicated like that.' On the other hand, Barry is caring, considerate and while he may be oblivious at times, the other characters call him out for his mistakes and he learns from them. Plus, in an extremely shallow direction, he's the cutest.

He was a piece of shit in the comic books, too. He kicked his ward out of the house, presumably into the waiting arms of his drug dealer. Then, afterwards, did he change his mind and go find him? No, Green Lantern did. Later he dumped Roy off again, on his own, just to go find himself. It's amazing that Roy didn't do that with his own baby. Black Canary is also a piece of shit, because she knows exactly how Oliver is, and is still with him. He makes Batman look like a good father.

Honestly I love the first season of Arrow, but I’ll admit I was mentally writing slash fic between the Arrow and Deathstroke. The salmon ladder hooked my closeted ass with those abs. I mentally tuned out the all of the female interactions Ollie had because there was *no* chemistry. Hmm...I was married to a guy like Manu’s character...that explains my attraction to the series.

To be fair Oliver has always been a horndog. I mean he's basically the Tony Stark of DC Comics. This is a guy who before the island happened was just a spoiled rich one percenter who did all sorts of bad things. He's not exactly a hero yet this is an origin story of him changing into a better person. Although there are some problems with this show it still believe he can change into a much likable person. Oh yeah Diggle is also my favorite character dude should get his own show.

I disagree. He got his own side story last season with his brother and having to come to terms with the fact that his brother was an evil douche. They're not doing much with him this season because they have the new characters who they want to develop and even then there was that whole thing about getting him out of jail. Diggle gets stuff to do. The most neglected character this season is Thea. I know the actress wants to step back but I hope she doesn't leave because I love Thea.

I'm not talking about the quanity of story I'm talking the quality and since Digg is my favorite and to be perfectly honest the character who represents me and people like me I'm naturally protective. I loved his story last season that's not the issue. I'm talking about how he's kinda been reduced to a stereotype like lately his main emotion has been the typical "angry black man" I mean, last year he got angry but it wasn't the go to emotion in every single episode like this season has, and the fact that he's unemployed, mind you he's a father and a husband and the only member of the team who hasn't had a job in THREE YEARS, and Felicity and Curtis don't count because they had jobs last season and season 3. I also hated the stupidity of making Digg a fugitive from the law, it made everyone on the team especially Diggle look stupid. I agree about Thea too, though. I don't like a lot about Arrow this season which is why I just watch live instead of recording the episodes anymore. They're screwing a lot of characters over for new plots and characters

I think the new Canary has potential. I never warmed to Laurel because she only had real chemistry with Quentin and Sara. In Sara's case that wasn't much of a feat because Caity Lotz has charisma coming out of her ass and could have chemistry with a grapefruit. Also writers never got a handle on Laurel's character to make her too likeable. So I'm totally cool with a new Canary as long as she is likeable and has chemistry with everyone she needs to. I like her budding friendship with Diggle and that they already set them up to be friends, so she's not only going to be relying on Oliver for advice and support. My only real big grip about this season is that Rene is so goddamned annoying. He's like "I can do everything on my own!" Next scene: fail, fail, fail ::shudders with annoyance:: Also I'm not crazy about the fact that they made Evelyn bad. I like Madison McLaughlin, which is her actress. She has a lot of presence for someone so small. I think the story with his brother was a quality one. I was really with John and his struggle between what his heart and gut was telling him so when his brother betrayed him, it was deeply tragic. As for this year,I don't see Diggle as an Angry Black Man because right now he's got a lot of reason to be angry. There's that quote about being ware of the rage of a patient man. There's only so much anyone can take before they say "I'm pissed off at the world and right now I want to stay that way."

I actually love Oliver Queen, but I think it's because I don't care for the romance aspect of the show. So I like that he's battling with himself and his emotions, and he keeps moving along without dealing with those emotions and it ends up screwing him up and he has to figure out how to fix it. I actually like Arrow better than The Flash, because I like the characters for the story, rather than the romance. Like I could care less who Oliver ends up with or passes his peen to, I just care about how his character develops, he's working to become a better person, though he's not right now. Sure he's a hypocrite, but no one takes his hypocrisy as law, they even call him out on it a lot. No one sees Oliver as this angel who does no wrong, if they did I would hate him. But I love Oliver, I think the fact that he's not easy to love is another reason why I love him, I also think that shipping can ruin a show for you

I started watching arrow because of Sara Lance. I watched supergirl since it first came out, and I started watching the flash after the crossover on supergirl. I love the flash!! It has great humor and its so fun to watch. So one day I decided Legends of tomorrow would be fun to watch, so I started watching it and immediately fell in love. But I didnt understand how Sara came back from the dead and I heard arrow was a great show, so I decided to watch it. I LOVE THE ARROW!! But they do a lot of things I wish I could change. For example, Oliver is always brooding about his life or anything else he just randomly brings up so people can feel bad for him. I also hate how they killed Laurel!! She was one of the best characters on that show because she was the only one who brought in the light to take away the darkness. Black siren is not the same person. But overall, I think all the arrowverse shows are great but there are still some things I would want to change.

I honestly hate the show. Oliver is a prick and it's wayyyyyyy too similar to Batman Begins. And I don't like how they're taking Batman villains and putting them in this universe. It doesn't work! Did the writers not have enough confidence in the enemies from the comics? Or did they want to do a Batman TV but the CW won't let them so they do this instead? I mean, it doesn't work! I watched it for the Flash and I'm hooked. I like him more than Arrow. Oliver's a dick, Barry's cool. And if you need to drink to get through an episode of Arrow, I don't blame you. I needed a beer.

So they got permission to use Green Arrow and turned him into Batman. The Oliver Queen of the comics is completely different in personality. He's a jovial wisecracker, and politics are an important facet of him as he's a billionaire turned communist. None of this comes through on the show.

I love Arrow, honestly and I also love the Flash. I think a reason why people dislike Laurel is because Cassidy has an odd affectation as an actress. To me it seems like she's just really tense and uncomfortable almost all the time. When she was Ruby in Supernatural, I thought it was strange but I also thought that maybe the character was supposed to be written that way, but no that's just how she acts. I don't hate Laurel, but I think I would honestly like her if someone else was playing her. Also she's not really a convincing physical presence. Caity Lotz made a great Black Canary because she had training for years as a dancer to communicate with her body. And when she needed to communicate "I'm about to kick ass and take names" with out saying a word, it was completely believable. Cassidy doesn't have anywhere near the ease that Lotz does. On a side note, I think Laurel's Black Canary costume is ugly. I hate all of those buckles and straps. She looks like a Matrix cosplayer, not one of the best comic book heroins of all time.

I liked Oliver as he was on Flash, but he's annoying in his own show, he's supposed to be one of the greats, instead he's just a wimp that spends most his time getting his "arrow" wet and fighting with his girlfriends. I'm liking him more at the moment with the Ra's Al Ghul storyline, he's showing more hero potential. Felicity is annoying. Thea is annoying. The idea of Laurel becoming Black Canary, a wise grandmaster of martial artist at Batman level, is becoming more and more ridiculous. I agree with you that Diggle & Slade are pretty cool. How come Oliver has to be such a shitlord but Laurel is just a victim of bad writing? Why can't they both be shitlords!

I like it and I dont like it. I think they do a decent job of showing the "powers" in "realistic setting" (something the Dark Knight Trilogy didnt even try due to Nolon's hard on for realism) I thought Slade was done well, The Suicide Squad were done well, Chyna White is done well, I like Maseo and Tatsu. Ras Al Ghul is pretty dope. Diggle is cool Malcom is good a villain, as well....but the heroes on the show either bore me and annoy me (outside the action) and thats a bad thing when I am watching the show more for the villains than the heroes, other than Ray, Diggle and Felicity. I never cared for Roy or Thea( actually I really I hate Thea, mostly its her actress's voice.) Sebbastion Blood was wasted though...I would have preferred him being a priest for Trigon. I like Oliver as the Arrow (for the action), but not as a person. love the Flash though. Im sad Constantine may not get another season and I only started watching the vampire daries just recently and I gotta say this. I like it and dont like it. I think Damon is awsome, I like Enzo, I love Caroline, Bonnie is meh...I prefer Katherine to Elena (except when she turned her Humanity off, then I liked her) Klaus is the man.....I mean I love him and I hate him. When hes good, I'm like "good going Nik" when hes evil...I'm like "fuck you Klaus you evil sack of shit" but then when I find its all a rouse to get some one worse, I'm like "you magnificent bastard."

Green Arrow has been one of my favourite Justice League members since I know of JL. The moment I started the series I knew how much they'll f- up Oliver's character. I gave up after episode 5. They even butchered Deathstroke's origin, I can't stand for that. I've seen little of Flash but it's easy to say they did a better job

I cant agree with you more. Oliver is written very poorly. He is not the Green Arrow at all. Felicity is painful to watch. I don't fault the actors, they had to be these characters that were so badly written. Oliver became a real ass, choosing Felicity over Black Canary was an awful mistake. The only worthy characters in this mess were Diggle, Moira and Thea in that order. And can anyone explain to me why did EBR always deliver her lines so quickly? As if she needed to go to the bathroom or something? With lightning speed and the same delivery, over and over, please enunciate!!!! And if he is changed he can advice people about not doing what he is has done. Hypocrisy is telling someone to stop doing something then right after doing it. actually Oliver is the reason why I love arrow. I like dark shows while I like the flash but I prefer darker shows. However I tend to group arrow and flash into the same show since they crossover all the time and reference each other all the time. Also I tend to like anti-heroes more than pure good heroes.

Wth. Oliver is an amazing character. I think that this show is amazing. If he wasn't in this show and was the way he is, this show would just be boring. His character is what makes this show become alive. The person you should hate is detective/captain Lance. He thinks he know everything about arrow just because Oliver didn't tell him that Sara died. You gotta think about what the show would be like if he didn't act the way he acted.
