I really like Melinda, but Randy picked a bad song for her voice. Melinda has really good chest voice but falsetto isn't her forte. She nailed all the parts in chest voice, but couldn't quite nail the falsetto parts sadly.

++jonaloin The judges did that kind of thing to Haley Reinhart, choosing a song that didn't really suit her voice range, being too low at the beginning for her comfort, and not really much of a song anyway. The producers had it all worked out for Scottie McCreery and Lauren Alaina to win. They even made out there was a bit of a romance going on between them. They were obviously the intended 1st and 2nd., but Haley was threatening that scenario. The Country kids were pretty good, but all the really high spot on the show came from Haley, and the criticisms became worse as she progressed, although at times she was so brilliant that they couldn't help but recognise it. Melinda is very impressive. Her version of Toxic with PMJ is great. The song suits her, and she really does things with it.

Firstly, I wanted Melinda to win, but American Idol isn't always about the best vocal, and to be honest, I don't know that it should be. Even though vocally, Blake isn't in the same league as Melinda, he sings different types of music and sounds good for that type. He also does a better job of being current. To be honest, I thought this particular performance was a little boring, even though sung well.

I think the reason that Fantasia is the only black female singer ever to win Idol is because she was the best singer by some margin . Melinda was fantastic also but she wasn't competing against the likes of Fantasia

She can definitely sing. Very nice voice. But her range is limited. She's NOT comfortable singing high. She reminds me of a Gladys knight. Low voice, but nice. At 2:10, she cracked a little and at several points in the song, she "almost" hit notes but not quite. If you are singing a song by Whitney houston, Celine Dion or Mariah carey, you have to either have an amazing range or you have to change the style of the song to suit your voice. Otherwise, the lack of range is all the more obvious.

"sensational" would be Candice Glover, Syesha Mercado, Fantasia, Lakisha Jones, Kelly Clarkson. Even though Fantasia has a raspy voice, it's very unique, soulful and she still has range. But again, Melinda is "good" just my opinion. You can disagree...we all see things differently and have our own taste.
