Bands/artists such as Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Rush, Alice Cooper, The Beatles, Van Halen, Bruce Springsteen, The Cars, are discussed in this video.

I have the original US Columbia pressing of "Wish You Were Here" which still sounds phenomenal - Back then August 1975 I had it on 8-Track cartridge in my car and it was the best sounding of all of my tapes thanks to Columbia's Dolby mastering - almost as crisp as the LP - I was lucky to see them live during that time at Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City, N.J. a few weeks before the LP was released and remember when David Gilmour played those first haunting notes on his guitar - we all thought he was just tuning up and all of a sudden that sudden burst of music when the group entered the song was just mind-blowing - every time I hear that intro I am back there with my girlfriend at the time and my best friend as we became Pink Floyd's loyal fans - Thanks for that memory jog Melinda❤See you next week!

"Wish You Were Here" is my favorite record, I remember the first time I heard it, 8th grade, in a treehouse in El Paso Tx. my new friends were playing it on a boombox, I heard "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" and thought it was the most beautiful music I had ever heard. Glad to hear you enjoyed the record fair, I recently attended my first, and it rekindled my enthusiasm for the hunt as well, as you pointed out local stores get pretty picked over. Thanks for sharing, have a great week!

First off, hats off to Phillip for being such an understanding spouse 👍. Happy for you that you were able to go to a record show AND find some great records! Finding any early version of the debut from Rush is getting very hard to find (in good condition) so I think that’s a grail at this point. I think that’s a fantastic album too. I bet that Wish You Were Here half speed sounds amazing. I love that album sooooo much. I appreciate you showing some of those rare (and super expensive) records. No, I would never buy any of them, but as a music lover I just enjoy seeing them. There’s definitely a joke to be made around the Alice album here but I won’t go there.😊. I totally agree about that feeling you had as a kid during summer knowing you didn’t have to get up early for school. You never quite get that feeling back and it was very short lived. Wonderful video MM! Have a great weekend and take care

Should you ever have the opportunity to attend another record fair, or record convention, I highly recommend going if possible. Hello Melinda, Yes, the Hotmix of Led Zeppelin II is hard to get hold of in good condition and at a good price! I also looked for it for a long time, but then I paid the $400 because I noticed that there were only scratched versions. In general, I think it's a rarity. A record that quickly disappeared from the market. It's similar with the Led Zeppelin record from 1969 with the turquoise lettering cover, the original cover, which was quickly thrown off the market and only a few copies were sold. Led Zeppelin II RL Cut has been around for a while. The problem is that there are many versions, and many dealers take advantage of that and just say: Yes, yes, that's the version, without looking at the number. Good luck finding it! 😊

Concerning the panties with "Schools Out". Shep Gordon, the bands manager, was at a prty and overheard someone say that it was illegal to import paper underwear. He got the idea to order the panties, and when he was notified that they were at the warehouse, he called customs with an anonymous tip about contraband, Then, when the story hit the news, he came forward saying that the panties were ordered for an album insert. Melinda, you need more record shows and record fairs in your life! They are such great places to meet new people, new vendors and serious record nerds like yourself! I love, too, that you were able to find those National Music Survey records..I have a few that I picked up in Florida once, featuring Charlie Tuna, along with some great Casey Kasem broadcasts…With Dick Clark, I remember his “Rock, Roll & Remember” shows and “Countdown America!” from the late 80’s-early 90’s…I’d love to find one from 1989-1990 that I remember hearing on a camping trip…I recorded bits and pieces of it, but I distinctly remember hearing Poco’s “What Do People Know” on it…Those commercials absolutely DO take me back, too, as well as the interviews…Such fun listens! Make sure you look around the area of Florida you’ll be moving to, so you don’t miss out on any of the Florida shows…Some of my favorite record buys were purchased down there several years back at flea markets in the Tampa-Brooksville-New Port Richey area…There was a booth in one of the indoor markets there where I saw one of those Phonologs, and I hadn’t seen one of those in a VERY long time! But, great finds! Hopefully, we’ll see more videos like this in the future…You can always find the crème de la creme at the record shows and I completely understand being there for several hours and finding incredible stuff! Record stores are great, but having so much vinyl from so many people in one place is a treasure! More people should know about these places, because there is something for everybody there…Maybe next time, if he hubby doesn’t want to go, you could attend yourself or if there’s someplace he might be interested in going to nearby, he could do his thing and you do yours, especially if you’re on a vacation somewhere…Of course, you’re going to Florida, so it’ll seem like a vacation every day! Remember, too, this is a time for all those antique shows, garage sales and estate sales, too, as well as the record fairs and outdoor flea markets, so don’t pass any of that up, if you can!

Which is why when I go to a "slot car " show....I will NOT bring anyone with me... If you're not into vintage slot cars, attending a slot car show is probably worse than going to a funeral...or watching a thermometer in California....for 2 weeks straight. Just saying. My point is - I NEVER bring anyone who doesn't want to be there to ANY kind of show I go to (I have multiple interests..as I am a dealer in collectibles)....as they just DRAG me "down". Once again...just saying. On the reverse - I AM going to a Godzilla show in Chicago fairly soon (yes - go ahead and laugh). My son and brother-in-law are coming (both are fairly big Zilla fans)....so it will be fun....and no worry about either of them NOT enjoying themselves (or being bored)......that......and the enjoyment of Chicago pan pizza....which well, speaks for itself.

Hello Melinda ! Record fairs are a great way to find/buy records you didn’t know you wanted. If a grail turns up , it’s usually on display BEHIND the dealer. And the prices for those……WHOO-WEEEE , my goodness gracious !!! My interest fades immediately. The costs for rare or unusual records have skyrocketed. Luckily I restarted my collecting in the nick of time. I’ve been able to get almost all of the unusual ones I wanted , and only have a dozen+ or so left of the more common ones I miss. Take care. /R (A at work)

Good for you. I also avoided the crazy money prices that people are demanding today. I wish I had started collecting even sooner and saved even more money. On Record Store Day 2023 I got up too late, showed up to my main store and the line wrapped around the block so I headed over to my backup plan, a store that has a lot less RSD selection... Well they were out of everything I wanted but I looked up on their holy moly wall and there was WISH YOU WERE HERE - the same one you're featuring on this video (for $75). I figured if this record was for sale as an RSD title, everyone would be clamoring for it so I bought that as my RSD treat. It sounds more detailed and shimmery than my 1975 US press. Thanks for your videos!

Very nice! I still love record fairs...spend too much, but still love them. There are definitely sellers with crazy prices, but I still end up finding great deals. Nice score on the Floyd. For that, the 1980 pressing supposedly has the EQ curve incorrectly set. I don't hear it personally. I have the 1980 pressing, and it's the best sounding pressing I've heard of the album. The OG UK is supposed to be a bit better, but it's also crazy expensive. That Floyd had also bee sought after for some time. I bought my copy about 10 years ago, before the vinyl resurgence, and even then I paid $50 or $60 for it.

I love shows. I've bought at least half of my collection at shows because they are so affordable . I've been finding the prices are going up, but not a lot. While, the prices are going up so is the quality most are NM instead of VG+. I've also have found that I'm finding a lot more 1st press, NM for very good prices. Many are not labeled as a 1st press. I guess some vendors are buying estate collections from serious collectors and don't have the time to look them all up in Discogs. I'm glad that you had a good day. Some really nice finds. My last grail find was the first Moby Grape vinyl NM, cover VG1, 1st press second cover (middle finger air-brushed out). I don't remember the exact price but I know that it was less than $10. It's been on my buy list for years.

The first Rush album was originally on the Moon label in 1974, only a few thousand made, and is now approaching $2,000 USD for top copies. There are red Mercury pressings that are also very expensive if they have the word MOON in the dead wax, which indicates the original Moon stampers were used for that pressing. Rush also released an extremely rare 45 on Moon in 1973 which also sells for upwards of $2,000USD. I am fortunate to have both the original album on Moon and the Moon label 45 which I found for $3 at a local thrift shop in 2023. Cheers.

Correction, not the word MOON but MN-100-A hand written with STERLING stamped and what looks like a circle with a slash or capital Q in the dead wax of my original Moon label Rush album so the red Mercury will have an MN for Moon in the dead wax if it's the rare one.

Hi Melinda - we have quite a few record fairs in Adelaide, Australia - too many to be honest !! I get most of my records from charity shops etc etc with the occasional new purchase. Its all about the dollars lol. You mentioned Alice Cooper - I just picked up two Alice Cooper albums today for $3.00 AUD each. Billion Dollar Babies, with the original billion dollar note still inside the gatefold and a Best Of. Not sure what they're worth but always fun to find out. I also have a bootleg yellow vinyl Beatles Butcher Sleeve - cost me $30 AUD. That's about as close as I'll ever get to a real one lol. Chow for now. Doug

always glad to hear joyous reports. one advantage at these events is that the non professional traders, collectors that sell to advance a personal collection, aren't that thrilled at the prospect of dragging a bunch of vinyl back home when the event is over, , the stuff is heavy. the report about that $400 led Zeppelin pretty much convinced me to obtain and then follow the advice given by a mastering engineer, to just use a quality equalizer, as is done when records are made, and is pretty much out of fashion with audiophiles today. . he was talking about his work on the steely dan "gaucho" record in a you tube forum, where extensive massaging of the sound was used, to great acclaim ..

Hi Melinda, great vid. There are so many record fairs here in the UK and all of them always have stalls with overpriced records, it would seem. Thankfully, there are always plenty of dealers who price realistically and those are the ones to stick to. Looking at the footage and the photos you showed, it seems the same for you in the USA. That Beatles Butcher at that price will probably be carted round fair to fair for many years, unsold. It was not worth the asking price. Fortunately you came away with some great gems and I'm sure a decent price. That is what it's all about.

Good show.. Wonderful husband you got there..4.5 hours. Even I would say hey lets go... I love record shows.. and it is a great way to get good stock at prices that don't hurt... Obviously promo Alice..you should have looked closer at the panties...I could see it from here....(I'm visiting Poland..looking for records here as well) first Rush album is my favorite album by the band (yep. call me crazy..) I love those syndicated records. I collect them. love the commercials. Your youthful stories bring back the memories. Yep.. didn't have a lot of money for records back in the day so I would record on my brothers 8 track recorder. off the radio..yep.. didn't have a cassette. I recorded Gene Simmons introducing Van Halen brothers on 8 track (WABX Detroit). Wish I still had that recording. Yeah.. 80's radio... I didn't like a lot of the stuff by the late 80's (but I love it now). Grunge kinda brought me back to the radio. When I was a kid there was nothing like riding in the car, on vacation, or going to visit grandmother in West Virginia and listening to top 40 from around the different regions of the midwest, eastern Canada and mid Atlantic states we would visit. Being from Michigan visiting Memphis, I remember the shock to hear Bob Seger was opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd (he had sold out 7 nights at Cobo Hall). My dad didn't really like pop music but he would tune into whatever top 40 station he could find as they seemed to be the most powerful and the hits would roll as the miles passed by. One would fade after an hour or so and another would pick up soon. That was heaven in many ways. He was usually very strict and stern but the long vacation drives was one of the few times he would relax and we were close. Perhaps thats why I am so attached to the music and collecting?

I love the picture sleeves.45 people. The older gentleman and his wife I think it is are based out of Plano Texas not far from me. It's funny that you pulled up the bag they gave you because I just came across mine recently and it's sitting here in the living room. It took me a minute to remember that it was those folks in plano. I got some really great unofficial recordings from them over at the Southwest Dallas Audio Fest back in March. On a side note, I've been going through a bunch of my original LP's I bought back in the early 1980s and on through the 80s. I had about 400 LPS and unfortunately I only found about 60 to 70 of them went down in Houston moving stuff from the house that was sold. I was so happy to find them though. Some sound great while others you could tell I didn't take very good care of them. I played them on a cheap record player because I was just a young kid at the time. I also found about 30 or so records at my dad's house up here in fort Worth when I was moving things out of it a couple of weeks ago. It was from his original collection. I thought that when he started thinking rock and roll was bad and wouldn't let me listen to it and quit listening to it himself that he had used all of his albums for target practice. I was there and I remember all of the beatles, LED zeppelin, etcetera, etcetera albums that were shot for Target practice. It didn't bother me quite as much when I was real young but thinking back on it nowadaysit really, really makes me sad. But at least I got a few of the albums and they seem to be in pretty good shape. It's taking me awhile to go through all of the run outs on these albums but I started on it yesterday and I've been enjoying listening to the music and adding them to Discogs:-) Btw, my screen on my phone went out Sunday and I cannot proofread or see what Google types in this message. At least not until I get another phone. So please excuse any errors Google is sure to have made. Brian in fort Worth🎶

Your message looks great to me. 😀 I can't believe your dad used those incredible records as target practice. Lol. He has no idea that someday his son would want them. I had a cheap turntable as a kid as well so my old records aren't playable in some cases. I'm glad you found and saved as many records as you did. Thank you and take care. 😀♥️

Aahhh… record fairs (or shows)! When I lived in Vegas, there were some of those that I would eagerly attend! However, I now reside in north Idaho where anything to do with vinyl is a rare event! Not even nearby Spokane, WA has any record events. This is just NOT a record area, sadly.

I have several of the Dick Clark, Rick Dees, AT40 shows from the 80's - always fun to relisten to the commercials of the times.

I'm also on the hunt for that copy of Rubber Soul. 😀 I did see a MoFi Revolver at the record fair but the price was ridiculous. I hope you find copies at reasonable prices soon. 😀♥️ Thank you and take care.

@@MelindaMurphy Thank you much...$200-500 is way too much for those MFSL discs.... I'm curious, what was the asking price of the MFSL revolver at the record fair?!?

Some great finds there, especially the Alice Cooper Schools out that is a real rare find. Time certainly does fly at record fairs, I have been to many and you just lose yourself when you start thumbing through records.

What great finds. The Wish.....album i bought in early 80s, but as i think ive mentioned before it was gifted to a friend in the early 90s 🙄 mine had a poster and some post cards, and i think the centre album image was the robot hands.....but im not sure now. I can get a new copy here in WA for about $70 but the budget is a bit tight for such extravagance.....🤷‍♂️ you didn't mention what you paid? 🤔 Also that Sabbath album was the 1st one of theirs i heard..... my uncle played it for me❤ Happy day 😁🙏

The Pink Floyd album was a huge splurge for me. The cover and record were flawless and because of the condition I paid $200 for it. That's not something I can afford to do often but this has been on my want list for years. I may sell some other records to offset the cost. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗

Four and a half hours? I hope Philip got a dinner out of it 😁 Interestingly, the mid-late 80s was when I also got away from pop music for the most part and moved toward jazz much more. we have something in common, sort of. Nice pickup on the Pink Floyd LP; "Wish You Were Here" is a classic. And, part of the fun of your videos is seeing what T-shirt you show up in. I don't remember the one you wore in this video, though. Not sure I ever heard of Panama Jack, now that I think about it. The Dick Clark set would be cool to listen to, a nice pick-up also. If you look long enough, you'll find something (or something will find you).

Phillip is a very good guy for putting up with me. Lol. I don't remember what we did for dinner. 😀 I just couldn't get into the later 80's music the way I did. With the early years. It was all too generic for me. Thank you and take care. 😀♥️
