I loved this!! I agree that we should wear what we like. It's a blessing to reach this age and still look and feel good so why shouldn't we dress how we feel? I'm 67 but feel like I'm in my 40's. I certainly don't want to look like I'm trying too hard or tying to look like my granddaughter, but I sure don't want to look like what we think of grandma's in the 1940's looked like. I have no problem wearing skinny jeans, high boots, tunics, kimonos etc. I've taken good care of my skin and hair, keep a decent shape and wear nice makeup so I'm comfortable incorporating some trendy pieces into my classic wardrobe. I've finally learned to dress for myself and don't really care what anyone else thinks. I don't know who the fashion gurus are who make up the "rules" but I'm not at all intimidated by them or their fashion police! I'd like to know what those gurus will say when they reach "a certain age"! Some of what I see on the runways scares me far more than what I see at the mall. You look amazing all the time have the face of a woman who's in her 40's and have a bombshell shape. Keep workn' it girl. Big love, Susie

Melissa..I am almost 66 and have recently decided to change my style some...for a long time I wore the classic cotton buttonup blouses..like Martha Stewart's...and slacks..lately I've felt the need to "dress up" more...it's so hot here in Houston most of the time, that I have to always consider the sweltering heat when I buy clothes. I bought several new tops..in brighter colors and also prints...something I never wore before..I like the Chico brand travelers pants...in black, navy, dark brown and gray...the new tops are mostly chiffon, short sleeved...I wear a little more jewelry...have my hair a little more styled...the dressing up seems .for some reason, to fit more with this age..I remember my mother, always in stylish slacks, a nice top and her hair styled and set..every week with her hairdresser, Betty Ann. And my little grandmother always wore silk floral shirtwaist dresses and heels. Also a cameo...my mother wore pearls...I wonder if this is common at all...feeling the need to be a little dressier as we age or is that a tendency in my family only

I agree with you on everything you said. I have this subject on my list of "to do" videos because even though I'm 73 I can still do many of these "looks". Some I can't simply because I'm not comfortable in them and my lifestyle has changed so much since I've retired. I love Christopher Hopkins book, "Staging Your Comeback" where he talks about style and the different "looks" and how to figure ours out and adapt. Great video Melissa and gorgeous as usual! I totally agree! I turned 60 in February and I love clothes and jewelry and makeup and cute hair cuts and I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to feel pretty and look your best at any age! I dress age appropriate, but not "old lady" style! I love lots of different styles like you've shown here! I get lots of compliments on my style and it makes me feel good about aging! I had tried something fun, the retro look with my hair for notalgic reasons. My mother passed before Christmas 2022 and I remembered how she used to curl my short hair. I thought it was a fun way to handle having had to cut off damaged hair and learn how to style it, after having had long hair most of the time. Melissa, you look good in everything! I think a big part of finding your style is definitely not worrying about what other people think. When we're young we really care what our peers think of our look and I know I was wary of dressing in some of the clothes I'd seen on other people or in the shops that I'd liked. Also having the confidence to even try things on; how many of us have liked something on the hanger but then thought 'no, it's too young/I've got too big a bum/too busty/too fat' etc. I have found out that a slim trouser does look nice on me, and skinny jeans aren't as bad on me as I thought they'd be. Another thing to do is to go to a department store and use their (free) personal shopper. They usually bring you clothes that they, as an unbiased person, think will suit you - they are usually right! Thanks again for your video, I really enjoyed it.

Loved this video. Makes me think twice about what I wear. I am always so worried that my clothing may be too inappropriate for my age yet like you say we should dress the way we want and not what others think is the way we should dress. I'm all for clothing that is stylish and age appropriate but that can vary with the individual's taste. You certainly have given me food for thought.

I actually had stopped having fun with clothes the last few years and just buying pieces I "needed," but you introduced me to the Patty Boutik line - and, even though I'm short, I found things that are fun and flattering! Just made a trip to San Francisco and felt like I looked pretty good! I thought these things are not going to hold up to washing or Dryel because they're not expensive - but I was wrong!! Yes Melissa I hear you about spending the money on your kids' clothes! Even though I'm 54 I came to motherhood late and have a 15 year old boy who is all about the "label" which I give in to very occasionally for birthdays etc. I wouldn't mind so much if he didn't change his mind about it 6 months later, LOL. Melissa..you look gorgeous in every outfit. My life has been very similar to yours. I had my first daughter at 25 and every extra penny I had went towards her. My second daughter was at 27. Most of my clothes came from discount stores and I also did a little thrift shopping. My closet was such a different mix of clothes and I had no particular style at all. Now they are grown, and I can spend a little more. I don't spend a lot on clothes either because I am saving for retirement. There is always something.lol You are so right...we need more fun and that is something I have to work on. My life has revolved around family and work so I often feel that I never learned how to have just pure fun. Thankfully I love my career and feel blessed that I enjoy the work I do.
