Welcome to a bashing of Rome 2 Total War!
Today, I go through 50 problems with Rome II Total War. This was a super easy challenge, given that it is the worst game in the franchise, complete trash ;)
Although I feely truthfully about all this, it is meant as humour, so don't take it too seriously.
And, of course, it's all just my opinion.
Enjoy :)

There we go, I finally did it XD If there's anymore you think I could add to the list, please let me know. (I got through the list before I could surpass Turn 1 or talk Battles, so they'll be quite a few) Before you say: DEI!!! - I explain it in the video, it's not a fix or an excuse. Before you say: BUT I ENJOY IT!!! - good for you, I never said you can't . Before you say: I CAN HAVE WHAT OPINION I WANT!!! - yes you can, and so can I, and no one here is saying otherwise. :)

50 sins is not enough. Personally I like Rome 2, and it does some things better than Rome 1, but only because it's newer. Rome 1's design is much better though, and if it was made in 2013 with modern tech but its same design philosophies, it would have been a much better game.

Disagree with this, imagine your fustration dealing with a dozen AI small stacks of units all in raiding stances on your territory. If that is a public order penalty for each of these essentially unit or two pile up you will have more public order issues, more rebellions, etc. Furthermore the recruiting through the general or from global recruitment means you don't need to spend a dozen turns micromanaging moving a calvary wing or siege detachment from your say military city to where your war is taking place
@MelkorGG
@MelkorGG 2 жыл бұрын
@@michaellaramee1965 But that mechanic can evolve to. With this change, the entire game would be wildly different. Ways it could work: only armies of a certain size, or with certain generals leading them could pull of that raiding manoeuvre. Or maybe just add a cap. As for the 2nd point. 1. But you still have to bring the whole army back to a region that can recruit them. To me, it makes more sense for reinforcements to slowly trickle through, rather than the entire army heading back home to pick them up.

Was it somewhat easy to regicide certain factions in older titels? Yes. But the solution ould have been to give a bigger, but still limited, pool of recruitable generals, and once a faction burned through all of them it is game over for them.

Sin 102: Lack of depth and uniqueness for all the characters and generals, they all just feel the same(mabye except a 15 zeal champions, but they are 60 years old and will die next turn) Sin 103: Combat system based on hideous and idiotic animations, breaks immersion every time You zoom in to see how your hoplites fight series of idiotic duels with the enemy, while the rest of the unit just stands there getting tired from cheering. I agree. Also in battles. In Rome 1 you can clearly see all the units stand out. In Rome 2 the units blend in too much with the terrain and the longer grass (more alive terrain) makes them even harder. Wish it had a more cartoony mode.

Even after all it's patches i still struggle to enjoy this game yet i can go back to Rome 1 time and time again and have hours of enjoyment from it. Rome 2 has many stupid design decisions that they used as a scape goat instead of fixing the core issues which was the AI. Ai spamming too many mediocre unit stacks? instead of addressing this issue they just limited you and the AI to recruiting units only with a general available practically killing the "man of the hour" mechanic. The same issue which this video pointed out with units magically touching water and turning into boats, instead of addressing the issue of the ai building boats and performing naval invasions they just yeeted it out of the game and added that crappy band aid fix instead. The campaign UI is atrocious, it's like looking into a black void... couldn't they have added a marble texture instead of just black transparent background? it feels so lazy put together. The soundtrack is terrible also....

The Spy Agent Sin isn't really a sin of single entities, since there's a speculation that every agents have their own underlings, but even if there's like 50 Underlings for a single spy, it's still 1.980.000 Meals per day. Plus Stealing Food isn't really that good tbh since Food in Rome 2 is easy to come by if you focus on it just a little bit, Spoiling the Region Food Supplies would be far more believable, that is if the Food System is expanded, like a Food Export Province having different bonuses than provinces that Import food, like Food Surplus Replenishment bonus only works for Provinces who exports food for example. Rome 2 is at best a Game that is in the Launch Version, since if this version of Rome 2 is the Version given in 2013 it would be a quite successful game, if the team could expand on it and bring back important features like Minor Armies(Non General Armies). For Sin #30 the Artstyle is interesting but the lack of different pose in favor of NFT Style really put it down, as you can accidentally mistook Thureos Spears for Scale Thorax Hoplites. Sin #35 Resources sometimes had bonuses that is quite Mediocre at best like upgrades(Iron, Wood, Horse) to Specific Income Upgrades(Gold, Olive, Amber), and only some buildings need resources like Iron for Barracks, Wood for Ports and Marble for Temples, but this came in for the last tier of the building. Shogun 2 did this better but Rome 2 Resources are better than Warhammer imo.

+1 sin: you have to waste a 100+ turns to get the best units. You cannot even roleplay because of this, and the only way to get them faster, is to go bigger. But you don't want, if you want to conquer everything by your dream army. Also AI brings crappy units most of the times.

2 things I absolutely hate about this game are the army recruitment mechanics and the building mechanics. The army recruitment is garbage in my opinion, it made no sense to me that a general behind enemy lines can suddenly “recruit” a full 8 units of soldiers? What happened to recruiting guys at a nearby town and having to march them to the frontlines having the chance of being intercepted or not arriving in time to join up with your general. It made reinforcing your troops a much more tactical decision then just suddenly having soldiers appear beside your general. Mercenaries are my one exception to this because you would find mercenaries or THEY WOULD YOU and ask to join up with you. Also on the building note, I can’t stand the limitations in building up a settlement. Medieval 2 had the right idea with the Castle and City mechanic but then it somehow became this limited panel? I much preferred the ability to just freely build up a town how I saw fit.

I agree with a lot though some points really were unnecessary in my opinion. What I personally dislike the most is the unability to simply sack a settlement and leave it be, which you can't, forcing you to either constantly expand or be forever on the defensive. And then I also HATE that you can't trade regions, making the game very frustrating sometimes. All in all, the game is not bad in my opinion but also not great. I definitely like Attila a lot more.

Why don't they put the effort in optimizing it. I even pay for it I really would. I have a powerfully gaming laptop with an Nvidia rtx 3080 and 32gb ddr4 ram. So powerfully enough still I have to put everything to Quality. Yes I can leave Ssao and distortion and blood effect on and have like 73fps average. But goddammit. Why does Attily doesn't use all my hardware. WHY??? And I'm not the only one with this problem. If I put it on recommended I should play on max quality. Yeah what a joke. Wow then I have like 40-30 fps. Screw that.

I get what people say that “it’s newer” and I get it, it’s over a decade old but still extremely fun and replayable. most people prefer graphics over good gameplay which is unfortunate but even for me it’s extremely hard to even get into a campaign just because how boring and dull the vanilla game feels

Rome 2 was the genesis of all terrible design in future Total War games. i enjoy the campaign, but i just cannot stand how i cannot build as many building as i used to do in Rome 1. CA Literally put the Greek cities as DLC and it's just laughable since they were available by default in Rome 1 I remember how I loathe the army recruitment system that forbids armies moving without generals. that's just plain stupid since it prevents a more flexible strategy COLLISION SYSTEM SUCKS ASS. WHY THE HELL YOUR ARMY DID NOT FIX THEIR FORMATION EVERYTIME A UNIT PASSED THEM BY? The naval battle lacks depth thanks for this video, Melkor

Unit icons are fine in Rome II. The rest of the vid, very good. Personally I'd swap unit icons for mandatory general for army to exist, that's way worse than unit icons.

Yep. Building icons and unit cards are just personal preference. And actually I prefer R2 icons as they provide quick clue to what the building those. And unit cards seems unique, while for example infantry unit cards in Attila (or even divided empire) feel all the same

Rome 2 with mods is very enjoyable (easy to mod like in very easy) it really is a good game or atleast has the potential with Co-Op campaign it becomes super fun and with the right mod setup for your personal problems it becomes a hidden gem(receives so much hate yet is very playable and balanced few games are perfect at launch)

As said in the video, mods only fix around 12 of these issues. Also, very very very few people play co-op campaign and it's not worth the hassle in my opinion. As for modding, the basic stuff is easy, which is good. But no custom campaign maps kills it's potential almost completely + other limits.

@@MelkorGG I agree it has issues but it still remains my best total war game(Rome 1 was obviously the benchmark with nostalgia excettera) but playing attila is like what barbarian invasion was for Rome 1 it's a close second so ultimately there is no other option than modding the hell out of Rome 2 and I have found the 10 or so mods that really work wonders for me.(haven't tried modding attila to be Rome 2 as in time period and so on) Rome wasn't ever perfect yet it is so precious to us all it would never be able to be replaced there also wasn't anything to compare it to during it's launch it was so unique with it's scale and playability.

The historical games never feel fully fleshed out, so much so that one should assume that CA leaves it to the modding community to bring those titles to their full potential. That said Ancient Empires for Atilla is beautiful and I honestly cannot comprehend as to how CA couldn't make Rome 2 that vibrant and diverse, even as early as circa 2013/14?

To what extent is that to it being the most recent real histroical empire builder. Also, I think it shows the power of Rome more than anything. Eitherway, we can all agree Rome 2 will always have a bad feeling for people given that it should have been so much more. This title should have been what Warhammer 2 was to CA, played and supported for years, success after success, revolutionising the strategy industry, but instead it marked the clear decline of historical for a decade.

@@MelkorGG I have mixed feelings. Shogun 2 FOTS is my favourite strategy game of all time. Rome 2 launch was obviously a bad move, Angry Joe's famous video sums It up. But now Im not Ok with the hate Rome 2 gets from the old Total War players. I feel Its unfair to beat a dead horse like that, specially when It was supported much more than Attila. So It wasnt the last historical title, and It wasnt abandoned like Empire was. But yeah, CA makes a great game (Medieval 2, Shogun 2, Warhammer 2) and then drops the ball (Empire, Rome 2, Warhammer 3). And that pisses people off. However I enjoy modern Total War, Napoleon, Shogun 2 and FOTS. And Im paranoic this trend "Rome 2 is so bad, Rome was better than Rome 2" is another way to say CA has done nothing good since Medieval 2.

Most of patches they had to do to get it to launch standard, as to not destroy their reputation fully and they could have fixed it all as they have access to the engine code. They could literally turn it Warhammer and back if they chose to.
