A few years ago I got melodica for my 18th birthday from my friends even though I've never played any instrument. I've known from the beginning that it's one of the best gifts I've ever got, but I didn't have time or was too lazy to learn. Now I found it in my wardrobe and I watched a few of your tutorials already, you make it look so easy! And the pandemic seems to be a perfect time since I have a lot of free time at home. Tuning a melodically is not too hard once you know how. It’s the same principal as tuning an accordion. And once learned saves a lot of money. I learned how to tune accordions in the early 1990s and the principal is the same for melodic as concertinas melodions and mouth organs. Which all fall into the category of free read instruments.

Hello! I just got a Melodica a few days ago and I’m already in love with it and I’m starting to learn my first couple of songs. I’m curious, could you make a video of how to find the key or pitch of a song and then apply it to the melodica? There are already a lot of really great song tutorials for Melodica on youtube but I would really love to learn how to play any type of song on the Melodica and create my own covers. Any video of how to apply the key of a song on the Melodica would be very helpful for beginners! :) thank you

@@tierneyjohnson501 Good idea Tierney! I'll try and make one at some point. In the meantime, try this: sing along to the song you want to learn. Then take just one line from the song, and make sure you can sing it at the right pitch. From there you transfer it to the melodica. So start with the first singing note, hold the note, and see if you can match it up to the right pitch on the melodica. Then you do this for each note. Do you see what I mean?

I got a cheap melodica awhile back. It's kinda like the pink one but it's blue. Basically I told myself I'd learn on the cheap one and if I practice enough and get better, I'll reward myself with one of the nicer ones.

Whatever you do, don’t get a yahama p37d. Mine’s so far out of tune that I can’t even play simple triad chords. because i bought it on amazon (but directly fron the yamaha amazon store), they won’t take it back. $140 in the garbage, unless you have any ideas on where I can send it to be retuned? Is that even possible? I measured each note with a pederson tuner and each note is off by 25 to 50 cents of pitch. If you have any suggestions I’m all ears! Otherwise, I LOVE your video style! Thanks for making great, informative content!

Thank you for your helpful and informative videos. I still can’t decide which to get. I worry about having to take it apart to tune it. I hire a piano to tune the piano and tune my flute by pulling out or pushing in the mouthpiece. I want a professional one for playing in ensembles. I am a classical pianist, organist, woodwind player, teacher, and arranger. Which do you suggest of the 37 key melodicas?

Remember that on youtube and recordings, its difficult to compare, because of the quality. In my experience 32 key melodicas aren't any warmer. Melodicas are generally very bright sounding instruments, apart from a few vintage Hohners

Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm and expertise. I'd find it really helpful if you made as video showing the respective range of different models of melodica. It looks like the Suzuki-Hammond has a few extra low notes as well as the extra highs. Then there are the bass melodicas. How do they compare?
@MelodicaWorld
@MelodicaWorld 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t have a bass melodica, but used to years ago. They can be tricky because the reeds don’t sound straight away. The Hammond has the biggest range of all melodicas. It’s also a high quality instrument

@@MelodicaWorld THanks, yes, I see that Suzuki-Hammond has professional offerings. Both their bass and 44 key instruments have built-in microphones and 1/4" jack outputs, which would be handy for use in bands and for recording.
