A healthy mix of shred and melody makes a good solo. Use melody from beginning to the build up section, then use shred when it reached climax. Marty Friedman's solo is another good example. You can see it from Tornado of Souls and Five Magics solos. Melody -> Shred -> Melody -> Shred etc.

@cllifjumperPT
@cllifjumperPT 6 жыл бұрын
A melody has thought put into making each note flow into the next, which is why it sticks to your head. Shredding is literally playing a lot of notes in quick succession in a way that both looks and sounds cool. The difference between the two is that shredding is often too fast to even process how many notes there are in each section, let alone how they flow into each other. It's like comparing Eddie Van Halen and Kurt Cobain: both are cool as fuck, but they're clearly different in the way they approach music.

MKz VL well playing melodically takes a deeper understanding of the entire instrument entirely. You can learn licks and scales and fun tricks, but that’s just playing notes. To play melodically, you need to be able to put emotion into it, your heart and soul. Once you get over the emotional barricade, then your playing will sound amazing, disregarding the speed.
