You really can't compare Antares Auto-Tune and Melodyne anymore. Auto-Tune is clearly for correction the pitch of a singer or to create 'the effect' and Celemony Melodyne is for taking over the world while no one is watching.

They both have their place. Melodyne is for detail oriented work, Auto Tune is for performance oriented work. Melodyne workflow is offline, Auto Tune also has a powerful live component.

Just upgraded to version 5. There is now a significant 5 to 8-second delay when splitting a note! My workflow has just gotten slower. I hope they release a patch soon that addresses this problem

I've got one more feature request. "Maintain vibrato/tremolo". When you change the length of a note, the vibrato can sound unnaturally fast or slow. I love and use Melodyne for the most part but here;s some exceptions:1) Why the tune algorythm not sounds as good as Auto-Tune? 2) Interface too bright - When i work in Melodyne,I need to wear Sun Gasses! 3) Sometimes,I have to draw my own tune curve for singers that not sing,like in Auto-Tune Graph!(In Auto-Tune i hate the workflow vs Melodyne) Thanks!

Have you tried them already? 3) There’s no pencil tool in Melodyne, but you have quite a few different tools to shape your melody as you like. Nice new gimmicks, totally. But I find the current pricing policy pretty unbelievable. An update from an existing Studio 4 to Studio 5 version being 150 euros is pretty much insane for those features that are more of a workflow enhancer than a gamechanger. Don't get me wrong Celemony, I certainly am interested, but definitely won't upgrade for this price until the next black friday -66% Upgrade wave comes across. Then, the price will be fair and I'll reconsider ;)

Wobei ich die Sibilantenerkennung durchaus für einen Gamechanger halte, denn diese verursachen die meisten Artefakte, wenn man Silben um mehrere Halbtöne verschieben muss. Auch ein eigener Algorithmus (perkussiv tonal) für 808s war wirklich mal nötig. Das sind sinnvolle Verbesserungen, für die ich durchaus bereit bin zu zahlen. Aaaaaber... handelt es sich bei allen Verbesserungen um Features, die sowohl in Editor als auch in Studio vorkommen. Dass das Update von Assistant günstiger ist, sehe ich ein, da man dort kein polyphones Material im Akkordraster bearbeiten kann. Aber es kommen bei Editor 5 exakt dieselben Features neu hinzu wie bei Studio 5. Warum soll ich also beim Update von Studio 4 auf 5 mehr bezahlen als beim Update von Editor 4 auf 5? Für die Multi-Spur-Bearbeitung und den Soundeditor habe ich bereits bei Studio 4 bezahlt und dort wurde nichts verändert. Ich finde den Updatepreis für Melodyne Studio zu hoch. Change my mind.

Thank you for the update. Although I'm disappointed that I upgraded to melodyne studio 4 in March and apparently should be eligible for a free upgrade according to your site, but also according to your site, I'm not. I'm guessing this is because I upgraded rather than buying outright. Seems an odd way to treat your loyal customers. In version 5, do we finally have an editable shortcut for 'play from mouse cursor' without having to double click on the top timeline in ARA mode? Or just let us switch the standard double click anywhere function so that it plays in context, NOT soloed. Why is it that the default double click to play is defaulted to soloing anyway? Who is tuning all their vocals without referencing the music that's being sung to, or anything else in the mix?! Hopefully this is addressed in this update? EDIT: got in touch with Celemony and I DO have the free upgrade. Thanks guys!

Good question! While Melodyne wasn’t designed for this, the polyphonic DNA algorithm will also show you guitar squeaks as ‘blobs’ which you can then mute or make softer. DNA is available in Melodyne studio and Melodyne editor.

Well, what do you mean by ‘fatten up’? 🙂 There are many ways to do it. Melodyne isn’t a saturation tool, for example, but you can play with formants, add backing vocals, vocal doubles and a lot more.

I was planning on upgrading from v4 to v5 of EDITOR I had a terrible experience with this company. I needed to upgrade from the ESSENTIAL product using my EDITOR upgrade key after reinstalling my computer (Win10) and the only way was to install some weird package which was separate to the main app. Windows came up with a weird error I've never seen before. Anyway, long story short, they basically said it was my problem. When I refuted that, and rightfully stated that this was THEIR design (with their weird DRM authentication, I dunno, I'm not a developer), they doubled down on NOT HELPING ME (not kidding, that is their policy) and proceeded to provide analysis on the "tone" of my email even though I never abused anyone or used abusive language. They wasted a lot of my time. Instead of being able to bounce out a mix (which used EDITOR) in a timely fashion, I've spent a week going back and fourth getting nothing more than a link to a Microsoft support page which has a broken link to a tool which exists nowhere on the internet (trust me, I wasted a lot of time searching high and low). These people don't care about my situation as a producer. They were not interested in how the designed of their own DRM system failed and impacted me directly in a business sense. None of them lifted a finger to help locate the tool to solve the problem. Anyway, I don't care anymore, but this is not just going to be how they quietly treat customers and get away with it. People are entitled to know that they have faulty DRM design which can cripple your ability to use their software and as far as they are concerned, it's just bad luck for you, and it's your problem - go deal with Microsoft - get that behemoth of a company to produce some tool which may or may not solve the problem. Just wow! I can achieve that same results with other tools. I don't need to pour more of my professional time down the drain begging them to act professionally.

Hey Terence, sorry to hear about your experience. As far as we’ve heard, your problem has nothing to do with Melodyne but is a Windows issue. That’s why our Tech Support pointed you to the Microsoft site. If their support or download links are broken, there’s not much we can do on our side. Have you tried reinstalling Windows from scratch?

can you guys make a VST plugin that can tune polyphonic sources in real time ? so if you are playing open chords on guitar and one string is slightly out of tune that single string gets adjusted through the plugin.. it would be helpful for things you cannot redo such as live recordings or streaming.. include a setting which detects polyphonic sounds but leaves monophonic content unchanged.. then you can still play solos without it changing vibrato.

Melodyne only works with pre-recorded audio. It needs to analyze the audio first, before it can apply its magic. This wouldn’t work in real-time.

Hmmn. As i mainly want to use this for vocal corrections, I just bought Melodyne Essentials. But there seems to be an essential editing tool missing? I wanted to ADD a split to separate two notes, which were being tracked as one "blob". I can MOVE a note split line, but i cant CREATE one? This should be there, but i don't know if this version has that ability. Can't find it in the manual. Can someone confirm whether this is missing in the Essential version? Annoyed if you can't because this should be a basic edit tool.

You can add a note separation with the Main tool. If you hover over the top edge of a blob, the tool will change to the Separation tool. Then doubleclick and you have your separation.

It’s pretty obvious. For melodic parts, e.g. vocals, we use the ‘Melodic’ algorithm. For polyphonic material, e.g. chords, we use one of the ‘Polyphonic’ algorithms.

If you say you have Tune LT (which means you know that plugin) and watching this video at the same time, is it really that hard to guess that Melodyne 5 destroys Tune LT feature-wise and sound quality altogether? Hexspa asked for Melodyne essential particularly. And indeed Melodyne essential does not come with the full feature set of the larger Melodyne editions.
