Also try changing vibrato as well as tuning, you will see a big difference, as if three people were singing.

OK, I sing terribly (IMO) but I've been thinking that changing it as much as Melodyne can -- is it still my performance anymore? I think of musicians with not so great voices like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, etc and I wonder if these guys would have been as influential as they were had their vocals been "perfect".

You don’t have to aim for ‘perfect’ vocals (whatever that is supposed to be), but having a tool like Melodyne gives you lots of options from hard tuning to subtle changes - which you may or may not want to apply to your vocal tracks. That’s up to you. 🙂

This man is a true genius. Grounded and focused. How many people would have thought of doing this? Not many. Building a guitar is one thing but writing the software Melodyne with all its features is another feat on a whole different level. Great video.

I find Melodyne works much better in standalone then inside of Studio One for Tempo Mapping. In fact, it’s perfect outside of Studio One but when I use it in ARA it’s off. I’m using Studio One 6.6 and Melodyne Editor 5.

What if there's a live recording of a vocal double which we need to separate from the other.... which algorithm should we use?

You mean if you have a full mix stereo track only? If the vocal double is very close to the lead vocals, it will be hard or even impossible to separate it from the lead. Also, that’s not what Melodyne was designed for.

@@celemony That's fair. And I appreciate it. I suppose that with all of the stem separation tools available, I was hoping that Melodyne would be able to handle a task such as this to have greater impact than those tools for such a job.

I purchased Melodyne 5 editor and can't find the Sound Editor. Does this mean it doesn't have it?

Has anyone found a way to save a file (*.mpd) in Melodyne then open it and make it playable? For me, in the Studio 5 version, saving a project permanently mutes the track, which becomes grayed. Surely this amazing software lets you save your work for further editing.

Update: Saving a project in Melodyne does not include the audio file edited. So if the original audio file is moved or have its name changed, the *.mpd file becomes unusable. Fortunately, I kept a copy of the original audio and copied it to my project folder. The *.mpd file then became usable again.

Melodyne studio has a ‘Quantize to reference track’ option in the Quantize Time macro. Have you tried it yet?

Does melodyne time editing just not work in reaper? every time I move or stretch a not it sounds like absolute shit and is unusable. Any fellow reaper users in here?

Moving notes here (Melodyne in Reaper) with the method explained in the video is a hit and miss here too. Not talking about the sound, just the functionality. Seeing other remarks here, it seems it's a Melodyne problem and not a Reaper issue.

Not sure if I can ask questions..where is melodyne a good placement in editing/mastering chain, before everything-eq, compression, but maybe again in end with timing?

We recommend putting Melodyne in the very first insert slot of your effect chain. Otherwise, since Melodyne works internally with a copy of your audio track, any effect plug-ins before Melodyne would be printed to the working copy. That’s not ideal if you want to change some parameters later in the mix. Also, there’s no need for multiple Melodyne instances in the same effect chain. You can edit everything in one Melodyne window. Hope this helps.

I really love Melodyne, but this whole multi track alignment thing is so, so convoluted and time consuming. I have Vocalign Pro to do this, it's pretty much one button and it's done. Melodyne could really do with learning from Synchro on this, nobody has got the time for all this bottom up stuff. I'm sure Melodyne could do this easily with existing code. Pleeeaaase!

Tip--if you have an out of tune string or note on a held chord, esp if you are double tracking, isolate the note, then chop it up into 5-6 sections. The warbly bits will pop up higher and allow you to tune just them using the macro slider. Works quicker and better for me than tuning the entire note, or using the tools to tweak. I fought one for an hour until I discovered this. Now it is perfect. And easy.

I started doing this before I had the multi track function, and it was super tedious, jumping from screen to screen, not having the expertise shown here...now I have 5 Studio, and watch these vids all the time. My only regret is that I didn't happen these tools sooner. Awesome presentation. 🤘

I watched this a while back, and just revisited it. This is hands down one the greatest programs in recording today. It's not just pitch correction. The ability to take the place, and do a better job than a d-esser, is amazing, and the technique is genius. Great video! 🤘🤘

Installed, activated, but all of my blobs are greyed out and I can't edit anything!!! Can't find a fix anywhere for this problem either and it's holding up my process, anybody got any ideas?

If blobs are greyed out and Melodyne is properly installed and activated, chances are Melodyne can’t find your transfer files. You can re-assign them in the Inspector panel on the left-hand side. If this doesn’t help, please feel free to talk to our support guys: www.celemony.com/support

Hi there... I have Melodyne assistance, using Reaper... after I imported a track into Melodyne, how do I reimport, if I have new takes on the track? I cannot find this, and I have looked! Even removing and re-adding Melodyne seems to keep the track data and not 'refresh' with the new recordings. Thank you.
