Ya we kind of have some kind of meat or protein as the main dish these are the starters sides and desert. BBQ is kind of us saying "Oh look how nice we can have all this good food." Sort of thankfulness. Any excuse for a cook out is always welcome. 😋

Baked beans is another dish. Beans, with ketchup, mustard and either maple syrup or molasses and finely chopped onions baked. Often we add smoked sausage or cut up hot dogs to it.

I can't help it, everytime they make food from somewhere else, I have to wonder how they actually make it. From what I have seen after many videos, is that it seldom looks like something the way we would make it. I hope they actually enjoy it.

The potato salad was a little busy. Potatoes, a small amount of onions, green pepper or celery or celery seed and mayonnaise make potato the star. I'm glad they enjoyed some of our traditional foods.

I brought deviled eggs to an Independence Day party today, and they were the first thing we ran out of---glad you enjoyed them, too. BTW, deviled eggs are called that because back in the nineteenth century, the word "deviled" was used to describe dishes that used spices like paprika and pepper. It was just another way of saying spicy.

I’m glad you’re all enjoying the food!! Your smiles are infectious and your spirits are just beautiful ❤ I do wonder who makes the food you eat/try. The potato salad was pretty literal! Lol. It’s not a salad as in garden salad. It’s just mashed potato (to your liking). People prefer different consistencies but the potato is significantly softened, ranging from soft to purée texture. It’s just the potatoes, hard boiled eggs, a real mayonnaise dressing, minced celery, minced onions, mustard -some like dijon mustard, pickled relish, and salt and pepper and any other seasonings you like. I like to add cheese, sour cream, and bacon to mine. Mix that altogether to your preferred consistency, and top with your favorite garnish/spice aka Paprika and voila! No two potato salads taste the same but there is a standard or expectation of how it should taste and look. Try southern (US) cooked soul food next time. You’ll see and taste the difference. Potato salad should be yellowish in color too. This is the same formula for (canned) tuna, macaroni, and chicken salads. The yolk mixture inside the deviled eggs also use this same formula. Stay great! 😎☺️

If I was in Pakistan I would 100% make people "eggs laid by Satan" for the Fourth. Families like mine have special cold plates to keep deviled eggs cold and fresh. But less traditional would be smoked rack of lamb with a mustard BBQ sauce. And perhaps if I had the room smoked goat leg for pulled goat tacos.

They are called deviled eggs because they usually have some hot sauce or chili powder added to make them spicy--that is they are "hot!" The potato salad isn't quite traditional for the USA, but it certainly looks good. And much healthier than our version with just potatoes, celery, and onion. Both cherries and blueberries are common at the 4th of July dinners since they are in season now. Very few apples are ready this early in the summer. (And I know the saying is --"as American as apple pie.")

Back in the day, long before everyone put hot sauce on/in everything, eggs were "devilled" because they had a shake of red paprika over the top as a garnish. Many recipes also added some dry mustard powder to the yolk/mayo filling, so there was a slight element of spiciness, but it was not pronounced. They were more creamy than anything.

We don’t call it egg devil, It’s called deviled eggs. You’re saying it backwards. As far as the potato salad goes, I’ve never heard of anybody putting carrots in it, but they did enjoy it, so so be it. Usually, it’s just potatoes, onions, and celery, And some chopped up boiled eggs, mixed with mayonnaise and some seasoning.

English is a weird language. My great grandfather was from Germany (he came over during the late 1800's). He would speak English words with German syntax. "Get for your father his hat", "Make open the door", "Make with the broom mach schnell!" (hurry up). I never met my G grandpa, but he talked like this (he died during WWII), and the older parts of my dad's family talked like this, I found it amusing, my mother did not (lawyer father). English is the backwards one compared to most languages, and uses many 'borrow words' making it even harder to learn. Most people learning English will mangal it because of this. So they literally could be saying "hard cooked eggs, deviled". I don't speak their tongue though.

Potato salad is traditional but does not have peas carrots. This doesn't look like potato salad. Potato salad is more creamy from the mayonnaise and some of the potatoes smashed to blend in with bigger pieces. The potatoes are cut too big too.

There are NO peas and carrots in our potato salad. It's usually potatoes, celery, onion, mayo and a drop of mustard. So happy to see these gentlemen enjoying it, no matter what is in it!!!
