wtf was up with that last bar? It fizzed and hissed like it was a chemical reaction wonder why it took so much longer to cool down compared to the other two bars?
@bigstackD6 жыл бұрын
It would have just been cause the water was super heated after cooling the other bars, the first bar went in and water was at room temp 15°C but wen the last bar went in the water would have been around 85°C so would have instantly boiled and took a shitload longer to cool😉👍🏻
@Kaaskop846 жыл бұрын
I see you replaced the interior insulation shell of your furnace after the leaking crucible? Can you buy that insulation apart? And does the furnace go to a high enough temperature to cast copper ignots? Because I have seen vids where the copper or brass looks more liquid when casting. Keep up the work matey. Just went to Amsterdam with the train so am watching a bunch of older vids 👍🏻
@bigstackD6 жыл бұрын
Yeah mate if you overheat the copper it will pour like water and be absolutely smooth pour. With the brass as the zinc in the brass boils at 907°C the brass doesn’t melt till sometimes 930°C So you can’t really safely overheat that or the zinc will flare off and turn to zinc oxide and that’s when you get all that floating fluffy white stuff But if you heat it just right the brass will also pour like water it’s just a fine line with the brass. That’s why sometimes when people pour the brass you’ll see that flashing and brightness on the surface of the brass that’s zinc reacting to the oxygen👍🏻. And yes this furnace can easily melt copper. You can buy all the bits and pieces for this furnace separately but they cost an arm and a leg .

@willmarsden76578 жыл бұрын
Scrap yards are always tentative to take ingoted metal because who knows what is in it - tests to confirm its make-up are costly and time consuming too. Your best bet is to record and take pictures of everything that goes into an ingot, or have the tests run yourself with a certificate of authenticity to take with you. That said, ingots are bloody awesome nonetheless and can be used later! :)

How can I make long brass strips?
@ClassicalRips5 жыл бұрын
Usually long strips of a metal are made by a ingot being rolled between large rollers that squish the metal slightly flatter and flatter each time it is run through the rollers. Eventually, the metal is squished in to a very long, thin strip
